Scriptural parallel. After being stoned to death in Lystra by the furious mob who resented his ministry and miracles, Saint Paul was snatched from his broken body up into Paradise before being replaced into the repaired frame a few minutes later. Saint Paul speaks of a visit to Heaven. "Fourteen years ago I was taken up to Heaven for a visit. Don't ask me whether my body was there or just my Spirit, for I don't know; only God can answer that...There I was in Paradise, and heard things so astounding that they are beyond man's power to describe or put into words. That experience is something worth bragging about, but I am not going to do it." II Corinthians 12:2-5 (Living Bible).
A Scientist who had a near death experience:

Joyce Hawkes, a cell biologist with a PhD, had an accident that forever changed her life — and her view of science. She suffered a concussion from a falling window. "I think that part of me — that my spirit, my soul — left my body and went to another reality," she said. She was surprised at the experience.

"It just was not part of the paradigm in which I lived as a scientist," Hawkes recalled. "it was a big surprise to me to have this sense of something different than the body — a consciousness different than the body — and to be in this wonderfully healing, peaceful, nurturing place."

Hawkes now works as a spiritual healer.

"I think what I learned was that there truly is no death, that there is a change in state from a physical form to a spirit form, and that there's nothing to fear about that passage," she said.

Angie Fenimore, a wife and mother haunted by abuse in childhood and overwhelmed by despair, was in a desperate state of mind. On January 8, 1991, she committed suicide, hoping to escape her sense of emptiness and suffering. But clinical death didn't draw her to the light seen in so many near-death experiences. Instead, she found herself in a realm of darkness. The hell she experienced was far more horrific and personal than the old fire-and-brimstone metaphors. Her hell was a realm of terrifying visions and profound psychic disconnection. Her experience demonstrates the Scriptural mediator ship of Jesus between us and the Father.

Doctor Richard Eby, then in his 60's was lying on a sidewalk with his skull cracked open from a fall when he was Caught up to Paradise. This is an awesome witness. Among other wonderful things, Dr. Eby says; "No bifocals needed. I had instantly noted that my eyes were unlimited in range of vision; ten inches or ten miles--the focus was sharp and clear."

He now felt he was being forced by an angry mob of unfeeling people to an unknown destination. They next began shouting and hurling insults at Howard. The more miserable Howard became, the more enjoyment they derived from his distress.

I soon realized that nothing had me, and that it was I, along with the group, physically ascending toward the clouds.

Once when I was eating dinner, I turned to a TV special on the Shroud. It was the first time I had ever seen the image close up. I nearly dropped my plate when the outline of the image took on a familiar resemblance.
