ok just found this about british life (in fact i think this has been sent to my by a british friend of mine after she split up with her partner ...)

Why did the man cross the road?
He heard the chicken was a slut.

Why don't women blink during foreplay?
They don't have time

What do men and sperm have in common?
They both have a one-in-a-million chance of becoming a human being.

How does a man show that he is planning for the future?
He buys two cases of beer.

What is the difference between men and government bonds?
The bonds mature.

Why are blonde jokes so short?
So men can remember them.

How many men does it take to change a roll of toilet paper?
We don't know; it has never happened.

Why is it difficult to find men who are sensitive, caring and good-looking?
They already have boyfriends.

What do you call a woman who knows where her husband is every night?
A widow.

Why are married women heavier than single women?
Single women come home, see what's in the fridge and go to bed.
Married women come home, see what's in bed and go to the fridge.

What is the one thing that all men at singlesbars have in common?
They're married.

... not exactly the best proof of the sophistication of our culture ... maybe i should have posted this in the 'evil' thread to prove our point ...

I could have chance to check the site and the first thing I do is to write adoula's evil subject. Do you think he is trying to escape from engineering issue?

By the way adoula, does engineers have idea about recovering cold

Things are great here (although a bit sad, all the leaves on the trees are yellow, red, and brown, no green mixed in any more, after the next frost they'll all be gone .. )

Anyway, Mido is the expert for curing people's colds, so I called him using his spell, let's see if it works ...

Oh poor Fanta,
As an engineer I think I can not help with that, we diagnoses the problem early; so don't have this experience...lol

But going back to my manuals, here is what I found:
The "flu" is caused by a very contagious virus called influenza.

U can visit any doctor to give U an antibeautic, but as U asked for my advise, so I prefer to go beyond science.

Below are some traditional therapies which are not necessarily supported by science but have been used successfully for many years:

1- Eucalyptus Essential Oil - Add 1-2 drops of eucalyptus essential oil to a large heat-insulated bowl of boiling water. Inhale deeply for 5 minutes and repeat 3 times daily. This brings the anti-microbial aromatic components to the site of infection - the lungs.

2- Flu-Soup - Start with 1 quart of water. Add 7-10 garlic cloves (peeled, cut in half), 1/8 tsp ground cayenne pepper, 1 bay leaf, 1 tsp olive oil. Bring to boil, then simmer with lid on for 10 minutes. Remove from heat. Add 7 medium slices of fresh ginger root, re-lid and let simmer another 5-10 minutes. Strain the broth. Drink 1-2 quarts daily in 1-2 sittings.

Hehe, I know why this could work - if you have that much garlic no-one with (or without) a flu will come near you for the next few weeks

Oh nooooooooo,
If I thought all women fell into the
catagory I write about in my other topic about evil, I would have drowned myself in a bucket ten years ago. There are many wonderful, sweet, thoughtful, caring,
sensitive and lovely women out there. They just all hate me but like that my breath will smell like garlic...lol

Finally, I'm going to give you a tip that will make your lives a bliss
complete. If a guy asks you out, and you seriously don't like this guy, follow my instructions about this garlic soup, you will instantly be on the "cool girls" list.

Ok, as we all miss Monica,
Here is some did U know from me:

Did you know: Egypt's name isn't really Egypt! The name Egypt was given to the country by the Greeks after the downfall of Dynastic Egypt. From there, it travelled to Europe, and finally over here. The real name that was given to Egypt and is still in use today is Misr.

Did You Know: The Greeks borrowed the Egyptian way of art.

Did You Know: The first non-Egyptian Pharaoh's name was Ptolemy. He was a greek general and he ruled in 905 bc.

Jen,
I have tried the maroccon tea too,in the best place who serve it in london, the place called (AYOUSH)they serve maroccon tea and egyptian tea.
maroccon tea is green leaves and green pepermint boiled together.
Egyptian tea is roasted tea leaves and green pepermint boiled together, both are great taste.
adding honey to any kind of hot drinks it's realy a great idea.
A doctor told me once: hot tea with honey and lemon is the best to take the cold off and clean up your stomach.

Oh Fanta,
I have another prescription for you.........lol

Like its close cousins garlic, onion can help U. The French explorer Pere Marquette was saved from starvation in 1624 by eating wild onions near the present site of Chicago—the name of the city is derived from a Native American word for the odor of onions.

Onions come in a variety of sizes, from the size of large marbles to softballs. Onion varieties include:
Bermuda Onions, Cipollini Onions, Green Onions, Maui Onions, Ramps, Red Onions, Shallots, Spanish Onions, Sweet Onions, Vidalia Onions, Walla Walla Onions, White Onions, Yellow Onions.......

Hi Adoula,

Thanks a lot for the idea of onion but let me try it afterwards. It can cause me to loose my job after too much garlic

Hi, Msjen! How are you doing today/tonight? Nothing interesting going on here today....except that I was outside all morning with my little boy enjoying the weather at a park, and then a trip across the road to a farmer's market for some fresh veggies and nuts. He loves to put our selections onto the scale to measure. I love those places!

Have I made any progress? No, not any physical progress as in actually writing anything down on paper, I am still in the research phase trying to find out all I can about this whole process! It's very interesting and exciting. I do need to sit down and just write whatever comes to mind but since my husband is out of town for a whole week, and my two boys keep me on my toes, I have a hard time finding time to write and when I do, my ideas have temporarily left the nest! I got out my sketch book, too, to at least get back into drawing regularly. It's definitely a work in progress! Thanks for asking.

By the way, I made that comment to Ayazid because, well, his comment was really rude and very juvenile....but the other reason is that he/she has started threads and posted SO many things about the race of Egyptians--"are they black or white"--which just seems ridiculous to me. I just wanted to be a little catty with them!

Hi Tarah,

Any plans on doing a book with a "native american" theme to it? Would be such a wonderful book for children I think and the illustrations limitless

Good Luck!!

well i guess that's the normal process of any project ... research phase takes longest but all of a sudden you realise that you have the material together (plus much more ...) and then you write and write and write when it all falls into place ...

and your boys seem to prevent you from getting tooo bogged down in work

anyway here things are smooth, just spent far too much time on the phone and now i'm on the net so i guess i have to leave now and do some work ...

enjoy your time on ES, hope to read many more posts of yours when i check tomorrow

oh yes, DO check out that EVIL one from adoula, i already have a very simple way of proving to him that the most evil of men and women are DEFINITELY men ... but i have to wait until tomorrow as i really need to get this work done ...

take good care,
jen x

nb. i thought your comment to mr/ ms 'this is a stupid thread' just hit the spot! personally, i couldn't think of a more intelligent thread than this one (and we have proof: adoula's joined us )

freeman can you check if he/ she (i.e. mr/ ms 'this is a stupid thread') is a man or a woman?

HE HE HE ...From Vancouver BC, on a stop over for 3 days on my way home, I finally have a moment for ES....

Dear, dear msjen, you are the most loyal, adorable online friend! so nice... and your evening news pop ups, brilliant! thanks funny girl!!! you deserve Moroccan tea, yesss, and served very sugary by the way.

Adoula, that 'evil' issue...so interesting...

My 'humble' opinion:

Immorality is a phenomenon that has no gender my friends!!! Compulsive behavior turning destructive is indeed evil...and is a definite CRY for professional help....regardless of gender!

But people, you're all fabulous to have kept this thread going so well...fantachero hope you're feeling better!

Which brings me to the notorious:

'DID YOU KNOW'

that Singapore has 4 official languages?
English is one of them. hehehe!

And also, DID YOU KNOW that

Kuala Lumpur ( Also Known As: KL) has the most fascinating Mosques. Moorish architecture/Islamic art style, is a feast to the eye. If you are into photography...party time for your camera!

Speaking about the camera, personally, I loooove BLACK and WHITE pictures...but does that make me Egyptian, or not really? Olive skin? white? black? Muslim? Coptic ( DID YOU KNOW that the word COPTIC comes from the word COPTI that really meant 'Gypt' that really comes from 'Egypt' but.. really was pronounced by the Greeks that way, at the time they invaded Egypt, instead of Aegypti, that really meant Egyptian Citizen that came from a Pharaonic word - which I can't really spell right now, and that, by the way, was during the time Egypt was a Christian nation, so it stuck to the Egyptian Christians, and after that era, entered Islam ....)

What about black people that were originally white, and white people that were originally black? (genetically white or black, that is, but not necessarily apparent to the eye)

So what's the big deal? mixed, colored, black, beige, yellow! what's the difference? is color and race the issue, or the achievements of a people?

Different strokes, for different folks I guess.

Wonderfully 'normal' trip up to now. VERRRY tired, but nevertheless, enriched with all this multi cultural environment. Amazing!

But back to ES: what is this 'divorce' trend? ...I guess the tide is changing...where is the 'hoopla' of 'To ORFI or not to ORFI...?
That is definitely the question ;-)

By the way we're important...as in : no matter if praised or criticized, since you've been noticed, you must be important, oh yeah! Oops, that was so not intelligent of me ;-)

What happenned to Laura...Lauraaaa? are you around? Enti fein??? ( where are you?) what are you cooking these days? ...sorry Laura I looked for you again and noticed your message...

Ok ms jen jen you're surpassing my expectations...great show girl ..

But remember...I'll be baaaaaack ...
can't do the rounds yet, but in a few days I shall compete again passionately! I promise.

freeman, come out of the shadow.

Isabella, bella bella...great to hear from you... and Baba Mido seems to have adopted a mysterious style, popping only when msjen wishes for him... strange.

To all, have a super time, until the next

Yours truly,

(tired) Monica

Hi,

Hope you are all fine, I am feeling much better today. Here are some did you know items from me. Some are really interesting.

- There are about 5,000 prince and princesses in each Saudi Arabian royal.
- Lady Peseshet of Ancient Egypt (2600-2100 BC) is the world's first known female physician.
- The 16th century Escorial palace of King Phillip II of Spain had 1,200 doors.
- There are more than 600 million telephone lines today, yet almost half the world's population has never made a phone call.
- When Alexander Graham Bell passed away in 1922, every telephone served by the Bell system in the USA and Canada was silent for one minute.
- Alexander Graham Bell never phoned his wife or mother because they were deaf.
- Queen Isabella of Castile, who dispatched Christopher Columbus to find the Americas, boasted that she had only two baths in her life - at her birth and before she got married.
- The 17th-century French Cardinal Mazarin never travelled without his personal chocolate-maker.
- King Louis XIV of France established in his court the position of "Royal Chocolate Maker to the King."
- Napoleon reportedly carried chocolate on all his military campaigns.
- Excavations from Egyptian tombs dating to 5,000 BC show that the ancient Egyptian kids played with toy hedgehogs
- The largest movie theatre in the world, Radio City Music Hall in New York, opened in 1932 - it seats almost 6,000 people
- Mel Blanc, who played the voice of Bugs Bunny, was allergic to carrots.
- In the 1926 film version of Don Juan actor Lionel Barrymore set the record for the most kisses ever in a single film. Barrymore embraced Mary Astor and Estelle Taylor 127 times.
- The longest kiss in a movie is in Andy Warhol's Kiss. Rufus Collins and Naomi Levine kissed for the entire 50 minutes of the movie.
- The first movie to use sound was "The Jazz Singer," released in 1927: the first words, spoken by Al Jolson, were: "Wait a minute, you ain't heard nothing yet."

Best wishes to all,

however, if you feel that you could add something intelligent to our thead to make it less 'stupid' in your eyes, please feel free to do so.

Funny girl where are you?

You're missing on stuff! and I bet you don't even know that I'm stuck in Vancouver and that I loved Kuala Lumpur...

Did you know, that:

Orfi 'marriage' in Egypt does NOT give the woman the right to inherit when her 'Orfi' man dies. And if she has children with him, guess what? they will not be recognized by the government. It is considered a 'contract' though if and only if witnessed by 2 people. But again, not a marriage contract per se.

The Cairo times (online) has an interesting piece on this.

Just thought I'd throw this info in,
while competing...sloooowly...but suuuuurely!

i was thinking of a different place (south kensington) and thought how funny it would be if we had been to the same place in London maybe the name was similar or i walked past a place with a similar name. oh well, i'll just pop in next time i'm in london

dear tarah

laura's post (above) inspired me to think about what your books will be about i came up with the following, please tell me how close i am

i think that you already have a story in your mind and you will try to get across a message of cultural differences ... (just a guess)

either, your story is about a pretty young girl called isabella. isabella was born in egyt in cleopatra's times ... then she was 'time warped' into different ages in different countries and continents (mexico, australia, china, south africa, mexico, peru, etc ...). in each country she makes her own experiences with the people and history and she experiences that behaviours learnt in one country may are sometimes totally different in other cultures.
by the time she's 20 years old (ie the age of a granny for a kid ) she realises, that although she has experienced many countries, cultures, and time periods in good and in bad times, she is drawn back to egypt as this is the culture she considers her home!! (the red sea... she's also a scuba diver ))

I would then guess that your current research is focusing on getting the historical background (approximately) right and that your drawings are pyramids !!!

or, there is another possibility:
the character of your book this time is called monica and she undertakes a journey through all the countries that produce nice food!! this, of course, goes hand in hand with a description of diffferent foods of different countries, eg. pasta and from italy, paella and potato omelette from spain, veal schnitzel from germany, english breakfast from england, BBQs from oz, stews with pulses from different countries in africa, and these wonderful curries with pulses from ethiopia, steak from argentinia or scotland, stews from hungary, then of course curries with nan bread from india, moussaka and sultan's delight from greece, 1000 delicious dishes from all over the middle east, sushi, stir fries, etc etc etc)(actually i think you'll just use the counties you like best as a source of the foods as everyone likes to say that they produced them first. or, just ask adoula, he knows everything! no seriously, why don't you check with him? he knows so many things, maybe he could really help pointing you in the right direction in case you get stuck!))

i would think that your interest here is to evoke an interest in other foods rather than chips with heinz tomato ketchup and pizza in children ...

tarah now tell me, how close am i?

WOWOWOW I just realized MsJen and Monica have surpassed me in posts!! haha Am not sure if I should be concerned for them or me? hehe

These are some Strange But True items I found on a site about ancient Egypt.

The pyramids were not built by slaves, but were constructed by farmers unable to farm during the flooding months of the Nile.

•The Egyptians had flat roofs, and slept on them during the summer months.

• The Egyptians had unlucky days, and on such days, they would avoid certain tasks or avoid going out of their homes altogether.

•Children actually enjoyed doing chores.

•Some families had monkeys for pets.

•They believed that dreams had great meaning, for example, if you dreamed that someone gave you a piece of white bread, you would have good luck.

•People sometimes let geese wander in their houses, because they were sacred to the wind god.

•Sometimes children went without clothes into the street because it was so hot.

• Women were paid to pound their heads and howl as a sign of mourning.

• They made boats out of papyrus.

• Priests in the temple served three daily meals to the god statues, so the gods would help the Egyptians.

• If you visit Egypt today, you can stand in rich, cultivated soil with one foot, and in dry desert sand with the other foot.

• The scarab beetle was a symbol of life after death, or resurrection.
