quote: Ya Monica .. to honor your request, here is one I think it helps too. If you need to dismiss someone and dismiss him/her badly you can say: Warrena Ard Ketafak (for males) You can also be harder if you say: Warrena Ard Afak (for males) If you want to be kinedr but still dismissing him/her is a bad way .. use this: Faragna khatwetak ..... Thank you Man_kind! I loved the last one, that is a first, never heard it before. But I have a feeling it could generate some laughs...

Dalia congrats on the progress with Arabic, somehow it shows in your posts. I don't know how but it does :-) So it's shock value that makes them laugh I guess. And yeah a devout muslim would never say a77a, it's not a good word for anyone anyway. Try the "lite" Alexandrian version a77eih. IP: Logged |

CheekyMonkey, I guess kimo gave you the translation ![]() To all contributors to this thread: you rock! Thanks, and please keep it up...we started this, we have to keep it active... Thanks doc for your comments! So, for today here is a 'cultural' situation: You are sitting at the beach alone or with another friend, and you are approached by `non other but a gigolo~ you have no idea of course...you don't know how a gigolo looks so you smile and notice he smiles again and starts a conversation and he is oh so helpful etc..etc... Shukran ana mesh aiza haga ~ Thanks I don't want anything And you keep it up all the time...you do not smile and giggle and start looking at him when he leaves or else. IGNORAMA is the solution..ignore... You do not give your room number EVER... because he will call you for sure, and that goes for the following: The waiters, the housekeepers, the laundry people, the barmen, the activities clerks, the minibar help, the drivers, the doormen, the travel agent representatives, the guides etc...etc... you catch my drift? So in other words, if you do NOT wish to be taken for a ride, don't give anyone an opportunity to 'seduce' you! If you say but maybe some are nice...well....be gentle TO YOURSELF, take no chances.. and instead of saying: Ya khossarah ~ what a pity/ or what a waste be prepared before the fact! Have a safe summer! Also, you can 'integrate' easily when with your Egyptian friends/loved ones, by being informed about Egypt: http://www.egyptdailynews.com/ Monica [This message has been edited by Monica (edited 23 April 2004).] IP: Logged |

mese` alkhair, ya sadiqati monica! I am still following with a great pleasure ur interesting lessons of arabic !& i feel they r much more useful then boring lessons at university ( we study arabic on the old soviet books published in 1976, so there is much of ittihad alshu3uriya there )!Mumkin assua`l, ya mu3allimati? i have a problem in transliteration of arabic letters with latin ones. i am trying to write everything what u r giving here in arabic but sometimes it is rather difficult to guess if 's' is 'sad' or 'sin', or 't' is 'ta ' after 'ba' or another 'ta', or when in ther word there is hamzah & so on. can u give me a hint on how to understand this? a3atini bitukgsaki! (is it correct if i want to tell -take care?)May god always send angels to protect u, ya friend! ![]() Regards from ukraine, just a girl who`s dream is near to come true ![]() [This message has been edited by muhariba (edited 23 April 2004).] IP: Logged |

muhariba...I feel love is in the air here too...a lot of people on ES sound happy these days...coming from here and there and everywhere to meet their love...cool.. let me try and help... To pronouce the letter 'ssad' I will put 2 ss for 'seen' or 'sin, the pronounciation is lighter so only one s...good enough? TTAH I will put 2 tt and teh only one...same principle... Hope your dream comes true!!! QUOTE]Originally posted by muhariba:

Monica, these phrases are useful, thanks! How do you say, I'm just looking? If you go into a shop, and they keep saying we have this and we have that and showing you things, not exactly hassling you but just overdoing the helpfulness, how can you tell them politely to leave you alone? IP: Logged |

Dear Monica, Thank you so so much for starting this thread. It has been most enlightening - I can't wait to see the answer to the last question.....is there an answer to a shopkeeper that really works and you are actually left alone to look round a shop?? ![]() Thanks again!! IP: Logged |

Moll you could say "ana batfarrag bas" (I am just looking) "ana bakhod fekrah" (I am having a first look through all the shops first, not literally but that's the gist). :-) IP: Logged |

And today's surprise: Information on Egyptian meals ~ best way to your man's heart??? you won't lose if you try. And if he joins you in the kitchen, then it's the ultimate proof he really really loves you ..or...doesn't trust your cooking skills...he he he ![]() _____________________________________________ Ruzz (rice) is often varied by cooking it with nuts, onions, vegetables, or small amounts of meat. Battaates (potatoes) are usually fried but can also be boiled or stuffed. Egyptians stuff green vegetables with mixtures of rice; wara' enab, for example, is made from boiled grape leaves filled with small amounts of spiced rice with or without ground meat. Westerners often know them by the Greek name of dolmadas or dolmas, And here is just a few very simple Egyptian recipes website, with music too!! http://www.auntlynnie.freeservers.com/Egypt.html And a popular recipe is Koshary; black lentils Cook black lentils, rice, pasta, all separately. bel hana wel shefa (enjoy the meal) Heeey, I just gained a pound!
