quote: Maybe she will let all the characters meet in the next chapter of her book. Whatever happened to that GrumpyJerkin she created. That was kind of funny, and even say's that typical line of LL "you can check my IP" reminds me of when I hear arabs say "Wallahi"
If anyone meets her, please hug her, tell her there is nothing wrong with turning 80, just thank Allah, she still has her wits about herself. [This message has been edited by hassancheb (edited 09 January 2005).] IP: Logged |

No Hassencheb. Unlike you, I do not hate anyone. I simply pity you. Please give your soul a rest and let this hatred die. It is tedious to me and boring to everyone else. IP: Logged |

Sorry Hassencheb - like Sherlock never said "elementary my dear Watson" I don't go on about IP's. Your Welsh mate does that. IP's prove nothing. Is there anybody on this forum that your sick mind does not think I am? Give it a rest before you have a stroke. I have had to edit this because in her desperation Hassencheb added to her note after I had replied. (Even more pathetic). Dalia - I think you might have a point. Thank god we will be rid of that spiteful woman for a while, we can post and talk about the original thread and not the persecution of other board members! I would usually say 'have a good holiday ' as I am generally a happy soul. But I am afraid I can not find it in me. I dislike bullies. IP: Logged |

Hassencheb posts on the religious line. Anyone reading those posting and then reading these will wonder what is happening in Islam. May I assure everyone that Hassencheb is an aberation and poor example of Islam. Her postings here are not in line with what is normally a loving and tolerant religion. Can I pat that dog now please and forget about this awful woman. IP: Logged |

Hassencheb - you are losing the plot completely. Please quit before you make even more of an idiot of yourself. You want to believe that I am 80 then do so. I bothers me not one bit. You want to think that I interfere with young men, that bothers me little either. You want to think that I live in squalour in England while I queen it in Egypt then think that too. You want to think that I have only written one book, then stay misguided. You want to show the world that you are a malicious woman - feel free to do that as well because that is the only thing that you are right about.. woof woof [This message has been edited by Luxorlover (edited 09 January 2005).] IP: Logged |

Okay...I saw the title, saw it was getting a lot of posts and concluded that dogs must be a issue in Egypt - somehow i'm mistaken. Chill ladies! Life is too short IP: Logged |

Farhana - a voice of sense like mnay others. But she is like a monkey on my back and I have become an obsession with her. She is as addicted to this as a junkie is to heroin. Shall we have a poll on how I should deal with it? a) hire a hit man to silence her D seems to be the best option so I shall just let her get on with it and let her dig a deeper hole to fester with hate in. She might find something of a similar nature to herself down there in the darkness. Personally, although she might consider it a fantasy world, I prefer the sunshine. Woof woof - says the spaniel. Ok, new question. Places in the Zamalek/Garden City area to purchase dog food, any ideas? Or would you instead suggest making his food ourselves, as I understand the price of dog food is dear and the quality not so great? Any information pertaining to these questions would be immensely helpful. IP: Logged |

I took these tidbits from about 5 different threads from the Egypttalk.net forum. I find this useful. Most locals don't have pets so are oblivious to these needs: Quote (Casual Cairo @ June 16 2004,09:34) Debbie, I've been intending to ask you for his phone number and keep forgetting, can you send it to me? The store in Zamalek where I get my cat litter (bcs they have the best kind) doesn't deliver and it's a pain to carry those huge sacks around. Answer: Anyway, yes, there are plenty of places to get pet supplies, such as the pet store mentioned in Zamalek on 26 July, major supermarkets like Alfa, Metro, Carrefour, and at some vets. My vet in Heliopolis has quite abit of this stuff for both cats and dogs. If you have had luck with specific brands you like from the states though, it is a good idea to bring what you like with you.
a long tidbit about an emergency but with plenty of addresses and vet names: Hi All, If you're going to recommend Farouk, Berge, Nashaat or Amr Adel then don't bother (been there & done that). We couldn't even get an agreement on diagnosis! Anyway, my baby is pretty sick, so I would appreciate any advice anyone out there could offer. Thanks.
I have to agree with casual cairo, he is very good indeed, He saved 3 of my cats and ut one to sleep (Couldn't be helped, she was in pain).
When she gave birth, he was eager to come over and see the puppies (Dalmatians were apparently very popular in Cairo, and there weren't many to be had). He took one look and the newly born pups and his comment was :" These aren't dalmatians, they have no spots", without examining the mother he just left!!! The idiot didn't know that dalmatians aren't born with their spots, and once he figured his commission from selling them was blown - he just wasn't interested. I had to get Farouk on the phone (he still wasn't into house calls then) and my then fiance (whose great dane had recently given birth) to help me out with her postpartum care. Berge wouldn't return my calls when I was worried that she still had a pup inside that wasn't coming out. I gave her all her shots, medications, etc. Our 10 pups weren't sold. 8 of them were "adopted" out to families that my sister and I interviewed. We chose to keep one male only, but when we discovered (around the time that she was a few weeks old) that one of the girls was deaf, we decided to keep her too (Berge told us to put her down, because a deaf dog wouldn't survive: she lived to be 8 years old and died 2 weeks ago -we guess from pyometra). One of the males was returned by the family that didn't feel they could handle him anymore, so we ended up with a house full of 4 dalmatians, and full of love. That's my beef with Berge, to me he was in it for the money. He wasn't there for us when we needed him, and lets face it, personalities aside, they're all pretty much at the same pathetic level. Judging from the posts, maybe he's more of a cat specialist (no clue about dogs though)
LOL ... even I know that and I'm neither a veterinarian nor do I own a Dalmatian. Anyway - I have a veterinarian in Mohandessin, her name is Neveen Hosny (347 56 40). To be honest, I can't really judge if she's particularly good or not, I personally like her a lot and she's been recommended to me by several people, but I also heard of someone who's puppy died after she failed to diagnose him correctly, but maybe you want to give it a try. Wishing you the best of luck. Thanks to everyone who replied. My dog had her operation today (hysterectomy), and she is stable. Adel Amer in Maadi did the operation in the end. We'll see how it all turns out. Once again, thanks for your help. Nicotina. Sorry to hear your dog is unwell. I think I have one of Sultana's daughters. She is also 8 years old. And her name Emelia. She is also very sick. She is feeling tired and weak and has all these weird bumps all over her body. When I went to Berge, he said it was genetic. And so did Rafik Nashed in Zamalek who is very very good. Maybe we can help eachother?
I haven't had great experiences with Rafik Nashed, although many others are very happy with him. My advice is to keep getting other opinions until something sounds logical. I tried posting on a lot of different internet sites asking for advice, maybe that might help. After taking Sultana to 4 different doctors this time, we ended up with Adel Amer in Maadi (I can give you his contact info if you want). He's the one who operated on Sultana, and he says he spent 30 years practising in the U.S. His clinic is nicer than most (well equipped). Try Dr. Rafik Nashed in Zamalek - clinic 736 2402, mobile 012 310 2401. I talked to him last fall when I was writing an article on pet boarding facilities and he made an excellent impression - both professional and compassionate. Good luck!
He is Dr. Berge Yacoub at 40 El Falah Str. Mohandiseen He generally takes Sundays off, and his evenings are usually spent at the Heliopolis clinic, so it may be too late for him, unless you can wait until Monday. Sorry.
I would actually start experimenting with your own recipee for dog food now, so your sweet pouch doesn't have to go through experimental eating while in a new country. Or see if you can contact Metro or Carrefour supermarkets to see which brands of dog food they have. I had the website address just a little while ago, I will add it when I find it.

Tinned dog food in Luxor costs at least three times what it does in the UK. It is cheaper to buy meat from the butcher. IP: Logged |

quote: do a search on the subject in both egypt-talk.net and egyptmad.com. alpha market in zamalek is probably closest to you (and there's always plenty of taxis going by; the guy bagging your groceries will help you flag one down and load your stuff in for you). They will have the largest variety of canned and dry food in the vicinity of Garden City. But yes it's incredibly expensive when you consider you could get meat from the butcher for the same price. If your dog has only eaten dry dog food, though, you will want to adjust his diet slowly and may opt to buy dry stuff for a few months. I don't know specific prices for dog food, but I do reacall that a small tin of cat food, for example, was LE 6-9 while a can of real mackarel fish (3x as large) was only LE3. Guess what the street cats that came 'round to my backyard got fed IP: Logged |

I started feeding my dog (street dog) on pedigree chum but it was 9 LE per tin so I switched to corned beef for a while as it was much cheaper. Like Expat I fed my cats on mackerel at around 3LE per tin - which I must say they adored. IP: Logged |
