Anybody knows the real story of those two? I heard like ten different versions. I'd be interested to know, because I've always been fascinated by their story!

thanks

I heard that they were 2 sisters living in Alex making a living by selling materials back in the 40s or 50s.

They would visit homes to sell their materials then tell their female customers that they have more materials at their own home if they wanted to have a look at. Once the customer comes to the sister's home, they would kill her and steel her jewels and golds on her. They buried the bodies in their living room.....

Their home is just beside a police station and this house still exists!!!

This is all what I have heard about them.

I am interested to know other versions if any!

Their story in a form of an Egyptian TV series is televised daily on ART (evenings) channel. It covers their lives way back into the past and kind of sheds light on the motifs behind the killings. It has no English subtitles so I am staring on TV like an idiot, but just the 'visual part' alone makes me interested to come back next day...

hehe yeah i know i watch the series. but the thing is the egyptian public have been fascinated by them for years. their story was made into several movies, one serious and two comedy, plus a really famous and hillarious pplay. however, as i said there are so many versions. i'm not even sure if the current series give the most accurate story. i mean they've cast the beautiful actress sommaya el khashab as Raya, who is supposed to be a sexy vixen who belly dances for a living, and is chased by men. however, i've seen their pics in the citadel, and believe me neither one of them is beautiful. infact they are the scariest and ugliest women i've ever seen!!

My neigbour tells me it is at saba benet Street (7 girls) in down town.

This does not mean that 7 girls were killed there... it has been called so before them.

They were all hanged in 1921. I read the real story and there is much similarities. They were discovered by chance. The Bukhoor thng is real they used it to cover the smell of dead bodies they hide under the floor, but of course they didn't do it all by themselves, their husbands and other men helped in killing while they brought the women. They killed like 20 women or something.

Sekenah had many affairs with men...It's one f'd up family. What's interesting was during the confesssion, how Bade'ah the daughtur of Raya tried to blame it all on Sakeenah and save her Mom while Sakeenah tried to save her husband who she loved alot. Still some love was their in those hearts

7aya,

This sounds a lot like an old folk tale I've heard, but I thought it was Viking or something. I also read a novel years ago, maybe young adult fiction, I'm not sure, similar to this.

But it was the Skein of Life or something like that. Skein (pronounced *skayn*) is a big loop of yarn wound in a loose coil. The legend is one sister would weave the thread of life, the other sister would measure it (i.e. how long your life would last) and the third sister would cut it (end your life).

I dunno if it's related or not, the cooincidence of thread/sewing/cloth and death just struck me.

I'm an idiot. What I was referring to were the Fates in Greek Mythology. A lot of other fiction is based on these three. Like the three weird sisters in MacBeth. But I guess it probably has nothing to do with your story since you've only got two sisters.

The Fates

Daughters of Zeus and Themis, their names are: Clotho, Lachesis and Atropos, known as The Fates.

Life is woven by Clotho, measured by Lachesis and the thread of life is cut by Atropos.

The Fates are old and predate the gods. It is not entirely clear how far their power extends. It is possible that they determine the fate of the gods as well. Not even the most powerful is willing to trifle with them.

I think theirs was the example of human endurance of powerty, pain and hopelessness pushed way too far... Their life sucked to the point of a breakdown. I honestly feel sorry for both them and their victims.

I don't think their daughtur was involved in the crimes but she agreed to be a witness and confess what she saw but she tried to blame it all on Sakeenah. according to Sakeenah, it was Raya who brought her to that way when she once visited her when Sakeena was sick with a swoellen leg . Raya took sakeena with her to her home and in their way, Raya reminded her of a woman she knew and said she got alot of jewellery and said that they should upset this annoying woman...when they reached sakeenah found that woman dead in Raya's home, she got scared but Abdul Al'al and the other gang threatened her and then she got used to it when they gave her money.

Sakeenah's husband was Abdul al'al I guess, he was a young man who fell in love with Sakeenah and despite his family requests to leave her, he kept loving her. It's hard really to kow what happened exactly as everyone seemed to have a story and it was Raya or sakeenah who was questioned many times in police station and everytime went out without being accused because of how talented they were in deceiving others

It was a booklet with documents containing pictures and story according to police files. I think it said that Raya and Sakeenah were the first women to be hanged in Egypt as before this time death penatly happened outside the prison and they didn't allow women to be seen like that but with Raya and sakeenah they built places for hanging inside the prison. Can you imagine the reaction of the crowd praticulary the families of the dead ppl when they saw Raya and Sakeenah in the court?

raya and sakeena (sakina)... i searched the internet and finally went al ahram newspaper stories to get the information... this is the information i have at this time... from the pictures in the newspaper articles i do not see them as so scary... nor was raya fat as depicted in television series... they actually look like any women of the early 1920's... so hope you all enjoy the story... it is interesting that in my search i found that most things seem to regard as women that were given too much freedom and the case was used by muslim brotherhood and others to try to enforce laws to keep women in the home... i found an interesting article that downloaded to acrobat reader explaining this... http://weekly.ahram.org.eg/1999/434/chrncls.htm
