Not to start another endless race debate, but I've read somewhere that these statues could have been fake. Could anyone confirm /refute this? IP: Logged |

Marcus, when Rahotep's tomb was discoved, many funery objects were still in place. The statue of Rahotep and his wife was found in a sealed chamber. Considering that the tomb had been buried for some 3,000 years, it is very likely the statue is authentic. Can you recall where the article was that you read that said it might be fake? I'd like to see it also. IP: Logged |

I would like to see it too, there are a number of items that have been considered as possible fakes. Not many well known ones have been found to be though. IP: Logged |

There is a history of 18th century fakes that were sheleved in the British Museum like the statue of Tetisheri. Later authorities found this was a fake statue so Rahotep and Nofret might be like the Tetisheri statue. However, people have pointed out that the belt of Rahotep is out of place, and the wig style of Nofret was also out of place for the Old Kingdom. Frank Yurco contends that Rahotep and Nofret look no different from many modern Cairene people. IP: Logged |
