A British tourist called the Islamic prophet Muhammad a terrorist in a heated row with an electronics salesman in a Dubai shopping mall, a court heard yesterday.

Andrew Graham, 40, faces spending a year in a Dubai jail if he is convicted of insulting Islam.

The holidaymaker was wandering through the Mall of the Emirates when he got into an argument with Hassan Habeeb, a 21-year-old salesman from Pakistan.

During the row, Graham allegedly said that ‘Muslims in Pakistan are not normal because they kill each other and kill people outside Pakistan’.....

Nothing sells a country's tourism industry like hauling in a foreign national on trumped-up blasphemy charges. We see this most often in Pakistan, but here again in Dubai is a case of the laws being used as a labor saving device- to do away with an obstacle or someone one finds unpleasant, or to settle a score. And the lines are deliberately flexible with regard to when one has insulted Islam or Muhammad. Anything you say about Islam and violence or terrorism can and will be used against you in a court of Sharia: So much the better to keep people in line through fear. That should be a cautionary tale for the West.

An ominous marker of any totalitarian regime is a set of laws under which any person within its jurisdiction, more accurately subjects, can be charged criminally at any time and/or on no basis. Such laws are intended to keep subjects wary and on guard at all times such that no mischief against the state can be generated. In other words, “peace.” Stated differently, peace to the leftist means no opposition to the state.

In any totalitarian regime, and every Muslim country must be included because they are controlled under Sharia, the state is first and foremost, with individuals allowed to exist only to perpetuate the state, and in Muslims countries to perpetuate Islam.

Obedience-through-fright is the objective of these deliberately vague laws.
