From what I know Roma and Sinti descent from India. Northern India. They were exiled during wars, such as the invasion by Alexander. There are a few gene studies out there, you can look them up.

Where is the evidence that they actually claim this? They may have possibly transhipped from North India via Egypt but that would be in the post-Pharaonic era.
