I know you said hard copies but you can do it this way
Use a program called CABINET , also there are some others that do the same job.
What you have is the picture of a cabinet with drawers that you can label.."with main catogories".
When you click the drawer it opens and you have folders, again you label these with , "sub categories"...
Now you just open the folder and scan your documents into it.
You now can retrieve quickly by clicking on the drawer(in the main category you want), then the folder , and hey presto. If then you want a hard copy, just print..
