oh yeah Smuck...they love me too ! it must be cuz we are soooooo sweet. and never heard of taking a yeast pill.... hmmm and VB...geez thanks for the advice...so I have to stop breathing, huh?
We ate outside last night, and them suckers bit me right thru my pants legs ! grrrrr

Yeast pills? Never heard of it, I don't want yeasty problems ((blushing))...I'll take the bites. Seriously, I use the indoor skeeter killers during the night, they work great, but if we venture out at night, ohhhh I come back all swollen.

i have mosquitos that live with me in the flat. I tell them to go to their second free room and never come to my room so they obey.

The yeast advice I was given by people who did a lot of jungle trekking, they said it was the best thing.
But...I have just found some great lemon wipes, the sort you use for freshening your hands.....they are good. Mozzies don't like the smell of lemon and it would be safe on a baby. Posts: 643 | From: Over there | Registered: Aug 2007

My mother and brother are olive-skinned (Latin origin) and they never were affected. I always assumed it was a white thing to get stung easier, as our skin is much thinner (generally). VB says it has something to do with carbon dioxide - who knows. All I know is that I can be sitting between my husband and our daughter and the mozzies fly right past them and come to me everytime. A British man was fighting for his life last night after contracting a rare disease from a mosquito bite while on holiday in the US.
A few weeks ago, Michael Nicholson was celebrating his 35th birthday by fishing with family and friends in New Hampshire.
But now he is lying in a coma back in a British hospital. Even if he survives, he is expected to be left with severe brain damage.
Mr Nicholson, a decorator from Livingston in Scotland, is believed to be the first European to contract Eastern Equine Encephalitis, also known as Triple E.
The disease - which has a mortality rate of 35 per cent and no known cure - is confirmed in an average of five people a year in the U.S.
It is found in mosquitoes in freshwater areas of the eastern states.
Mr Nicholson complained of multiple bites, mainly on his ankles, after spending several days fishing on New Hampshire's Saco River.
The state attracts thousands of British tourists every year and is a favourite destination of Gordon Brown.
Mr Nicholson's sister, Sharan McKenzie, decided to speak out about the condition in an attempt to warn others.
She said: "I'm sure most people are like me in thinking that if you are bitten by a mosquito in the U.S., it's the same as somewhere like Spain - irritating but not life-threatening.
"Triple E may be a rare condition but, as Michael's case shows, it can happen to anyone.
"Only time will tell, but we have been told he is likely to be severely disabled at best.
"If there is no cure, then surely the only thing we can do is try to prevent another case happening by raising public awareness."
Mrs McKenzie, 38, picked her brother up from Glasgow Airport on August 30 after his six-week trip.
She said: "On the way home, he mentioned he had been bitten by mosquitoes.

"He had bites around his ankles and they looked red and raw but we didn't really think that much of it. He was feeling tired but nothing unusual. He was talking about what a great time he had and how much he'd been fishing, which he loves."
The following morning, Mr Nicholson was taken to Livingston's St John's Hospital after having a seizure at his GP's clinic.
Within days, he had lost consciousness and was transferred to intensive care. Puzzled by his decline, doctors sent Mr Nicholson to a specialist neuroscience unit at the Western General in Edinburgh.
"All they could say was a virus had gone up his spinal cord and attacked his brain and caused serious damage, but they still didn't know what the cause was,' said Mrs McKenzie.
In fact, the mosquito bite connection with Triple E was found only two weeks later after Mrs McKenzie did some research of her own on the internet and alerted doctors.
Triple E can infect a wide range of animals, but transmission to humans is rare. Even then, many infected humans do not develop the illness.
Symptoms develop over three to ten days, ranging from mild flu-like illness to inflammation of the brain, coma and death.
The current advice is simply to try to avoid mosquito bites by wearing repellent and protective clothing.
A Foreign Office spokesman said: "We will need to look into this case and will be issuing advice to the UK public about how to protect themselves from the disease."

Vitamin B, especially B1, taken several times a day in 100 mg doses will keep the mosquitoes away from your body. A lady from New Zealand shared this with me and I've only had one bite since she told me that about 10 years ago, and we live in mosquito country here in the Sacramento Valley surrounded by many rivers and lakes and ponds (in Northern California).
* Supplement with one vitamin B-1 tablet a day from April through October. Add 100 mg of B-1 to a B-100 Complex daily during the mosquito season.
* Don't eat bananas during mosquito season--mosquitoes love bananas! There is something about how your body processes the banana oil that attracts these female sugar-loving insects.
* One of the best natural insect repellents is Vick's Vaporub®.
* Planting marigolds around your yard works great as a bug repellent because the flowers give off a fragrance bugs do not like. This is a great way to ward off mosquitoes without using chemical insecticides.
* One of the best natural insect repellants we use in Texas is made from the clear liquid vanilla that is sold in Mexico. It is reported to work great for mosquitoes and ticks, and spreading a little vanilla mixed with olive oil on your skin smells great.
* Commercial mosquito dunks will kill mosquito larvae before they become mosquitoes. There are fairly environmentally sound biological mosquito controls containing no toxic chemicals. Each dunk affectively treats up to 100 square feet of surface water regardless of depth for about 30 days. Dunks may be broken into smaller pieces to treat small areas. Unused and dried out dunks retain their potency indefinitely, so you can store extras for the long summer season. Put them in fountains, ponds, rain gutters, flowerpot trays, and anywhere water may pool.
* When all else fails--get a frog!

Pure vanilla extract - Alaska State Bird: Mosquito! My daughters get eaten alive by these huge monsters here in the summer. They even go through leggings! I decided to try vanilla extract on them and it actually works very well. I soak a cotton ball and dab it all over their bodies (scalp and hair included), then get them dressed. I have no idea what it is in vanilla that they don't like, and I don't care - it works. I take a small bottle with me while going for a walk or to the park and apply more if the pests get really thick, not unusual for this state. It's worth the price of buying a huge bottle from Costco or Sam's just for this purpose alone.
by Julie Lowe on 11/22/2005 Pure vanilla extract - Dabbing pure vanilla extract on exposed skin areas works for me in keeping mosquitos away. The imitation variety does not work well -- you need the real thing. Smells better than insect repellant, too!

I was out walking in the woods by my house and was amazed to see a cloud of what appeared to be Egyptian mosquitoes. I was very surprised to see them in Forsyth Missouri.

So mosquitos are rather attracted to light-skinned people? That's simply not fair! They are racists!!! (Sorry but I've been reading too much the Egyptology forum lately! )

In Alex, Smouha is known to have a lot of mosquitoes, because the area is built on top of marsh land or agricultural land, which attracts mosquitoes.
They are also attracted to certain types of blood, like aneamic.

When I was living there I got eaten too. It must be a Texan thing. You know competition with the BIG GIANT ONES we have. LOL
Try and get a can of OFF at Fathala or any pharmacy should have it. Just spray a little on you when you go out and it works great!

When I was young and living in the UK I would get bitten by mozzies. My arm leg or what ever had been bitten doubled in size and I was in agony. As I got older I appeared to be able to cope with them and I thought they had decided I was not 'tasty' anymore..................WRONG
I had been to a wedding (in Egypt) the other night. I had covered up, and the only exposed bit was my feet. Had a great time till I got back home. Sitting on the sofa having some tea a saw a tiny mozzie land on my big toe. He was barely there for a second, WHAM...he had got me
Next day I was really ill, he had 'got me' more than once. I counted ten huge lumps on one foot and three on the other. My feet doubled in size and I could see the poison it left round each bump. It has taken 4 days for the lumps to calm down and I can now put my feet on the ground to stand up. As darkness falls each evening I am just inches from a can of mozzie pest spray, never do I want to go through that again

I am terribly sensitive to them also PC. I still have some marks on my legs from LAST YEARS bites.
SD, you may be right, I'll look for that. The frustrating thing is thy don't touch my husband or daughter but JUST ME.

do they h ave that yard guard in egypt i use it alot here and ya my nan use to rub us down with skin so soft as well i can send ya some if ya want?

You also have an apparatus that just works with a small light, couldn't find a pic of it...
It doesn't harm your health and it kills the mosquitoes.

I met only one mosquito till now, it was at noon time in college. It just came and sat on my arm and started sucking .
I just shooed it and didn't it kill it, it did make me smile after all.
