Originally posted by Exiled: [QB] What I missed most and something I never forgave Egypt for was 4 genuine seasons. There was a time when I was in position solidify my business and to but land in Qatamiya (new Cairo) and I couldn’t do it. I loved Egypt but seasons for me were extremely important. Having no rain and no storms were exacerbated by the looooong Egyptian summer. May-October. I could complain about the pollution, crowdedness, etc … but the weather and climate were something that I missed most. You read about members saying give me that sun everyday, walk in my shoes as I have lived in Cairo 5 continuous years and you will pray that climate change turns things around in the Nile valley. I love the sun but 100 degree weather for 120 straight days followed by an autumn brings black clouds due to rice fields’ burning in the Delta. You know how I coped? I would awake around 1-2pm everyday during summer, leave my apartment and drive a short distance to Red Onion (in Maadi), call a friend to join me, order a shrimp cocktail or other appetizers , drank a few screwdrivers , and basically chilled in the A/C joint until the sun and heat subsided. It was fun though but there is more to life than just drinking and women. [/QB]
