This horrible story is in the news since yesterday.

Frankly speaking I fully blame the parents of the girl to leave her and even two younger siblings unattended in a hotel room to enjoy dinner alone.

The article states 'the parents checked back regularly on the children'. How long were they both gone alltogether?

And they are doctors, they couldn't afford a babysitter?

It's also said that the door and one window were open when the parents came back to the room and found the girl missing.

Seriously, how about the girl woke up, got scared and went outside to look for her parents?

People like these just p*ss me off! Poor girl, only god knows what happened to her....

What also makes me sick is that in statement they said the mother called a family member screaming they've took her !! (or he's) i can't remember precisely
So basically she knew something was dodgy and was more than aware of certain characters in resort !!!!!
And also as TL said they are doctors and could afford a babysitter cos all 3 kids were born from IVF !! Privately i bet !
I'm sorry with all the news these days of paedophiles how they as doctors let alone any parent leave them kids alone is beyond me....Whats wrong with having them sleeping in a pushchair next to u in the evening on holiday????

Seems like there was a suspicious looking man in the vicinity of the hotel, checking out windows for quite some time. They have a drawing of that person but didn't release it yet to the media to protect the safety of the child. Meanwhile critism gets louder and louder that local police forces are not doing enough to find the girl.

Seriously as I read today in one article the family might have been observed by this person and last Thursday evening he took his chance and kidnapped the girl.

I also believe that the parents didn't go for dinner alone for the first time on the night of the kidnapping and left their kids unattended. And this person knew.

What a nightmare to realize your child was kidnapped!!!!

Yes it is horrible what as happened and even though it is not looking good, fingers crossed they may just be a good outcome.
Totally agree regarding the parents ok it was only 40 metres away but they couldn't see that particular appartment.I would never leave my children alone in bed,and mine are quite a bit older!the thing that would be at the back of my mind is 'what if there was a fire?'

They can't stop with the search. Infact they have to search Europe wide and also airports employees need to have an accurate image of the child.

Reading that latest article she might have ended up being kidnapped by more than one person. God I am just imagine what about if she will be used for child pornography projects.....

Instead of slowing down with the search for the girl they need to intensify and widen it.

I am curious to know if the video surveilliance images of some persons incl. a small girl at the gas station are delivering valuable clues.

Let's all hope she's alive.

Madeleine's mother is close to breaking point say friends

Kate McCann, the mother of missing three-year-old Madeleine, is close to breaking point one week after her daughter's apparent abduction.

Friends of the GP said today they were "terribly worried" about Mrs McCann's health.

The mother-of-three has shown incredible bravery but is now showing visible signs of the immense strain she is under.

Close friend Jill Renwick said: "We are really worried about her. She has lost a lot of weight over the last few days. When I saw her leaving church yesterday I was very worried by what I saw. She looked exhausted and under terrible strain. She did not look well."

Mrs McCann returned to the Praia da Luz resort at 11pm yesterday after facing questions from Portuguese police chiefs in Portimao for almost eight hours. She required assistance to leave the car and walk some 20 yards to her hotel room, such was her state of exhaustion.

A Portuguese police source said Mrs McCann was released from questioning early after detectives expressed concern about her state.

One source said: "She has been very brave but is now getting to the point where she is so tired and so worn out that she must rest."

Her husband Gerry McCann stayed on well into the night to answer further police questions but detectives insisted that neither Mr nor Mrs McCann were considered a suspect in the case. The source said: "They are just going over every detail in their statements to make sure everything is correct."

Almost exactly one week to the hour when Madeleine went missing, Portuguese forensic teams returned to the Mark Warner complex where the family are staying. Using sniffer dogs they searched every room including the flat from where she was taken - the first time this week it had been entered by police.

It comes as Portuguese police admitted they are now scaling down the search and as a businessman has offered a £1million reward to anyone who provides information that leads to Madeleine's return.

Stephen Winyard, owner of Scottish health spa Stobo Castle, is a 57-year-old father-of-three who lives in Monaco. He was moved to come forward by photographs of Madeleine's distraught parents.

On Saturday a colleague of Madeleine's mother offered a £100,000 reward.

Today David Beckham was making a TV appeal for the safe return of the missing girl on the eve of her fourth birthday. Manchester United's Cristiano Ronaldo and Chelsea's John Terry have already made an appeal for her safe return.

A few comments:

Kate and Gerry have nothing to blame themselves for. This could, and did, happen to the most famous and careful family in the world at the time. Huge mansion, lots of servants, parents downstairs while their baby slept, and one evil man with a plan. All of you who are being so critical of the McCanns need to read about the kidnapping of Charles Lindbergh's first-born son. Maddie and her brother and sister aren't infants, they have well-established sleep patterns. Surely it should be safe to be a few yards away from them
as they slept? But one evil person had a plan...

- Katie, Penticton, BC, Canada

Totally pointless and unacceptable to blame these poor parents; they are going through enough hell as it is.

- Michael Rigby, Blackburn Lancs. England.

Sad! Sad! No blame to the parents, she was checked every 30 minutes, but someone was watching every move, and they knew the area very well to be able to break in and steal the child. Let's hope little Maddie will soon be back home, and the culprits are given what they deserve, a long time with other prisoners who will teach them or those a lesson.

- Tom Atkins, Vancouver, Canada

If they had this established routine of leaving their children like this, then it looks like a planned abduction. Someone, and possibly more than one, must have been observing the routine and attracted to this particular little girl. The abduction may have involved a snatcher and a lookout.

- Plod, Hong Kong

I can only assume that all the people condemming the family and blaming them for this terrible ordeal are all completely perfect and have never made any bad judgements?

As another comment has said, its easier to judge than be judged and at a time like this, this poor family need support, not condemming. The guilt of this, despite the outcome (which I sincerely hope will be a positive and happy ending) will live with these parents until their dying days.

- Abi, Shropshire

You can not blame anyone other than the sick people that commit these crimes and the system that allows them. How dare they believe they have the right to do this to an innocent soul. It only highlights how we need to think more about our childrens safety and security. It is because of these threats that we live in a world of fear. I hope this will be a turning point. We now need to do something about this. We need to do more to stop KNOWN offenders anywear near children. My prayers and thoughts are with Madeleines parents for her safe return.

- Daniel Mack, Chelmsford, England

Portuguese police question Briton in search for Madeleine

AFP - 9 minutes agoLISBON (AFP) - Portuguese police have questioned three people in their search for a missing toddler Madeleine McCann, a police source told the Lusa news agency.

"Nobody has been formally arrested for now," the source stressed on Monday night.

One of the people questioned was a Briton who lived in a villa in Praia da Luz around 100 metres from the Ocean Club complex where four-year-old Madeleine disappeared on May 3 while her parents ate in a nearby restaurant.

Investigators were particularly interested in an annex in the villa and in a mattress, Portuguese television channel Sic reported Monday.

Sky News named the man as Robert Murat while the channel showed footage of the villa cordoned off by police with investigators going in and out.

Lusa said that Murat was divorced and lived in the villa with his mother and his three-year-old son.

Media reports said the man had worked for the police in their inquiry as a translator.

British media reported that police had decided to search the house after a tip-off from Sunday Mirror journalist Lori Campbell, who found his behaviour suspicious.

"Basically he surfaced on Friday afternoon last week and was walking around as if he was somebody official. He claimed that he was just a local guy who spoke fluent Portuguese and English and was helping the family," Campbell said.

"He was coming in and out of the family apartment speaking with the media and acting like he was somebody official. But when questioned about it, he was very vague about his position."

Local translator Gaynor De Jesus and Campbell also told reporters that Murat had said he had a three or four-year-old daughter.

Police cordoned off the villa, keeping back journalists who have thronged to the area to cover a story that has sparked a outpouring of sympathy from celebrities, sports stars and the general public.

Foreign Secretary Margaret Beckett discussed the investigation with her Portuguese counterpart Luis Amato on Monday.

"The Portuguese foreign minister and I had talks about the very difficult, terrible situation in which the McCann family have found themselves," Beckett told reporters in Brussels after a meeting of EU foreign ministers.

"What we want is to get as much attention to Madeleine's case as possible because what we want is to get her back."

Two British policemen and a criminal analyst are already helping in the search, and two British lawyers arrived in Portugal on Sunday to help the distressed parents.

"We have visibly felt a burden lifted off our shoulders since the lawyers arrived here ... This has allowed us to concentrate more on our physical and mental well-being," the girl's father Gerry told reporters.

"Until there is concrete evidence to the contrary, we believe Madeleine is safe and being looked after."

Madeleine's mother Kate said: "We can't even consider returning home at the moment, we can't let it even enter my head."

Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling and Virgin business tycoon Sir Richard Branson have offered a total of 2.5 million pounds in rewards for the return of Madeleine.

Scottish businessman Stephen Winyard has offered one million pounds, The News of the World has pledged 250,000 pounds, and retail billionaire Sir Philip Green has also offered a financial reward.

Football stars including David Beckham have made public pleas for the girl's return.

Hopefully this is great news and the police is one step further in finding the little girl.

why did the kidnapper not take the 2 yr old twins too? why only the 3 yr old?

These parents should be arrested and those 2 yr old twins should be in someone else's custody. They are not fit to be parents.

Leaving 2 yr old twins and a 3 yr old ALONE in a foreign country in a room??? Ayayaaaaaaaaaaay
