Hi everyone, I married my Egyptian husband almost a month ago in Cairo and he applied for his settlement visa for the UK on Sunday (only 2 days ago). He got a call this morning from the British Embassy to say that his application has been granted without interview and when could he come to collect his passport?! We can hardly believe it, within just 36 hours the visa has been issued!!! I just wanted to give some of you out there who are going through this nightmare a bit of hope, it is possible and there is light at the end of the tunnel. If you keep persevering and never give up you will get there in the end! I wish everyone else all the luck in the world and if I can help anyone then just ask and I will do my best! x

Congratulations, great news for you both - hope he's prepared for the cold winters here in the UK... my husband's been here for just under two years and I don't think he'll ever get used to scraping the frost off the car windscreen in the mornings!

Don't you know you have to put cardboard on the windscreens at nights?? So much easier... Just throw them away in the morning.

Thanks everyone, we are delighted and cant wait to have a normal life together!! It was far easier than we expected although we provided 5 folders of evidence which they laughed at and we used a specialist immigration lawyer in the UK, she was worth her weight in gold! Cant wait for him to get here, Scotland is already freezing so I think it will be winter clothes shopping time as soon as he arrives! x

I don't think Tina is in Cairo. About the temperatures; today was 30°C at noon. (This is what my Egyptian friend living in Cairo told me). I was in Egypt same time last year and wore summerclothes (light dresses/skirts/tops) during the day and jeans and a pullover in the evenings. I am packing too right now. I think I'll bring 2 warm pullovers. Have a nice trip!

Yes, I'm sure it'll make a change from the man or men of the house turning down the heating as they tend to do in the UK!!

oooooh yeeeees.... plz give me a man who doesn't walk in the house and turn the heating off complaining that it is to hot. Constantly whining and bitching that he has prickly heat or can't sleep in the night. I like to be warm and toasty, i do not like to dress for the arctic circle when i'm in the home i like to relax in shorts and a t-shirt, is that so wrong?

Oh, I'm completely the opposite - I hate warm air! I'd much rather be wrapped up than have the heating on! If its summertime then great, that kind of heat I love, but can't deal with the oppression from central heating!

Soozi there is always room for a holiday in one's life, just think when you get old, in your chair and stink of p*** you will have lots of lovely memories that will put a mischieviouse grin on your face and leave people wandering about what you experienced in your youth hee hee

oh sorry! you went just as i returned i came back on 24th October, that was when i stayed in Cairo to go to the embassy and see about fiancee visa but it is so hard to do it that way that we had no option but to wait until we marry. Had a fantastic time though in Cairo, real culture shock for me but sooo interesting. Went to a wedding also whilst i was there and yes there were many women who danced with men and they were all Egyptian.

LOL! I thought this was only the case in our house. My husband likes it so hot that it sometimes feels like a sauna. In the summer he turned the A/C off while I was at work. Now it's getting colder and he sets the heat at 78F while I'm at work. Way too hot! I'm thinking of putting a sign above the thermosat to remind him to turn the heat down before he leaves for work. I'm comfy with it set at 70.

I don't mind him sitting in the tropics when he's home alone. He leaves for work at 2:30pm, I don't get home until 6ish. I just want him to turn down the heat so I don't have to open windows to cool the place down when I get home.
BTW...he started wearing long johns weeks ago. It's not even that cold here yet!

MW what nationality is he ? I ask because he appears to be really strugling with this climate

He's not struggling really, like many Egyptians he believes that illness is brought on by the cold. Also, he prefers to be warm all the time. I don't like the house too cool but I don't feel comfortable when it's too warm either.
This is his first fall/winter in the states so I expected that it would be a bit rough on him.

ahhhhhh poor soul he is but a mere man and they all like to portray strength but underneath they are really quite delicate ha ha. So have you been married for long or is it still the honeymoon period ?

We will be married two years on January 8th, God willing.
Hehehehe...he's anything but delicate on the outside but I suppose his intolerance for the cold makes him a bit delicate.
