I've read that it's a sandle strap & also read that it's a knot. A knot makes sense to me, as a good analogy for health & therefore life...

Anyone know for sure?

I have read the ankh represents the union between female and male genetalia. This is why sometimes you see certain neteru holding the ankh up to the pharaoh for the breathe of life.
