Regarding the last name, Wissa, I heard everything from long tales from elderly matriarchs to random banter on Egyptology message boards regarding its origin, but I was hoping to put this issue to rest. Where can the origin of "Wissa" be traced to? Pre-Coptic/pre-Islam Egypt? Or did it spring up during Coptic 'golden age'? Was it a Muslim import from other parts of the middle east and later converted to a Coptic name? Does it have anything to do with the ancient god Bes?

Thanks

Welcome back,Nerhesi, I am suprised you have came back to the board. I gave you the link to a Coptic message board and according to them the name came from the deity Bes. I am not a linguist nor do I have an efficent knowleadge of the Coptic language. From what I read some of the Coptic last and first names do have ancient Egyptian or at least Coptic era origins.
