I have read that Osiris was known as Maui in Antaeopolis (according to Brugsch?)and would be most interested in ascertaining how this name is spelt in Heiroglyphs and the etymology of the name. If anyone s aware of where this name occurs in Antaeopolis any information would be of great assistance. Thanks Greg Coupe

Sorry but our resident experts in Mdu-Neter (Egyptian) are absent at the moment, so I personally couldn't tell you the etymology of 'Maui'. All I know is that Ausar (Osiris) is called that title in Djebu (Antaeopolis) in certain shrine inscriptions but I forgot which ones. I also know that Maui was the name of one of the gods that accompanied Ra during his night journey in the underworld, so its possible that the cult of Maui was local to that area and Ausar was identified with him.
Since our hieroglyph experts aren't here at the moment, I suggest you forward this message to the moderator ausar so he can perhaps mail it to the experts.
It's unfortunate that our hieroglyph experts aren't around when you need them. Hope this helps.

Re: "Antaeopolis" -- Interesting how Greek appellatives for Egyptian cities are given preference to Kemetic ones in Euro-American Egyptology dicourse. At any rate, as far as the hieroglyphs are concerned, I can think of one way it could have primarily been written...
Taking into consideration that vowels are implied but not generally spelt out in the words. Another way, it could well have been expressed, is this...

Now I realize how speculative this is, but on etymology, I can see a possible link between the perception of Ausar being "all seeing", and hence, the term M33 -- that is "see"; in which case, the 2nd example above could be modified as...
