I have recently watched a (fairly old) documentry about the evidence of cocaine being found in Ancient Egyptian mummies. Scientific research has been carried out on mummies, and each time they are tested the results come out the same. Cocaine present; positive. If this is so, could there have perhaps been an ancient variety of the cocoa plant found in Egypt, or maybe lower down in tropical Africa which the Egyptians would have used in the process of mummification or food preparation etc?

not even that I should imagine. But seriously, tests were done on more than one mummy. I think there is a possibility of there being an extinct breed of coke plant...

Or there is the strong possibility of contact with the america's

there is...that was on the programme...I think it is possible there was contact. If those guys on the 'Ra expedition' several years ago managed it...who's to say the Ancient Egyptians didn't?

well..have they tested this coke DNA with coke plants from today? it would be interesting to know..

coke can numb the body..perhaps they used it as a medical resource..like..their version of a local or general anasthetic..

used it to numb a certain area ie the mouth for dental purpose or around the groin area or other body areas for minor or major operations..do u know where abouts the traces of coke were found on the body? was it internal or external? what part of the body was it in/on? all these questions need to be answered to be able to clarify a rough guess as to what it may have been used for? was there any found in young tutes body? if so could an overdose be the guilty party for his death? or even murder?..

They analysed tissue samples taken from inside several mummies. Including some from Manchester museum. Tests were conducted using extremely accurate mathods that are most commonly used to fine evidence of drugs in people today. Samples were also taken from hair. Id these drugs are present in the body, the cells in the hair show this. It is known for certain that the Egyptians used the sacred lotus flower as an aphrodisiac. Tutankhamen's mummy has not been examined for this, however, if they took cocaine as a pain reliever and as suggested by Bob Brier, Tut was murdered and took a long time to pass away, then I believe that cocaine traces maybe found in his body. They may have been given to him to relieve any pain he may have been in.

Maybe cocaine came from the same place that the ancient Egyptians got coffee, Ethiopia....

did they have coffee? I've never heard of that!

I'm not exactly sure. I believe Ethiopians have been making coffee for about 2000 years but they could have started earlier. There is much we don't know about ancient Egypt, perhaps they did make coffee.

Perhaps they used cocaine in their embalming process and not to get high. There were other things Egyptians used to get intoxicated like beer and lotus flowers.

if anyone..who is dealing with tutes body today? if no one then who was the last person to deal with tutes body?

Posted by Rhi_Sarah (Member # 3510) on :

Tut's body still rests in his tomb. I think the last time it was taken out was in 1969.

nicotine has also been found in mummies...anyone got any comments on that?

There was contact betweeen the America's, Africa and Asia.

More investigation needs to go into this area. There is some evidence of far east asian visitng the western area's of central america, here is one possible source as KMT would trade with asia.

KMT also had a strong relationship with the Pheonicians and we all know they are held in high esteem for there sea exploration prowess. The Pheonicians would bring many materials back from there travels.

I really feel that travel to the america's in ancient times from the old world was not so far fetched as some believe.

There is a bay in Brazil where ancient Roman jars were found on the bottom of the bay by a diving team.

oh, You are very lucky, Cobe, to have an Egyptologist friend. I expect it is a great help when you need to know things?

Posted by Cobe (Member # 3501) on :

i rekon if he did keep anything for himself it never benefitted him..u wanna know why?
.

.
....The dudes dead..

apart from that..

carter was a professional..
I would never question a professional on his work

I know for a fact that if it was me i would soley make sure that every single item was catalogued and placed in the safe hands of a museum..you could have all the money in the world from selling AE artifacts..but nothing can compare with time and history..

to me..seeing these items in a museum would bring me more pleasure than keeping the items for monetry reasons.. whats your view?

he stole things and sold them. He may have been a proffesional, but he was corrupt one! You really need to read 'the tutankhamen deception'. Form some opinions then, when you have read the opposing view.

i find the best way to learn is to watch..so i prefere the DVD's and tv programs..I find if you see pictures whilst the idea is being put into your brain via convo then your more liable to remember it because there is a greater picture

Posted by Rhi_Sarah (Member # 3510) on :

nah...reading is the way. Reading and writting long essays on the subject. They may help with notes for uni then u see. lol

Posted by Cobe (Member # 3501) on :

hmm..well ill give it a go..i have been researching AE since i was little..infact...i was born holding a sceptar and saying you ive again...your born again..you live again..for ever

The narcotic trace element in Lotus flowers that the ancient Egyptians sniffed turns up as the same as cocaine. This does not actually mean that cocaine was present in the ancient Egyptian mummy.

What people who wish to show that the Egyptians explored the New World forgets that it was against the Ancient Egyptians spirtual belief system to be buried away from the Nile. Being buried away from the Nile meant their soul would not exist so when a Egyptian is killed or died in another land it would be necessary for one to bring the body back so it could be buried along the Nile.

very informative..thanks ausar

they wouldn't neccessarily have had to have travelled themselves would they. I mean, they could have traded with people via Asia or wherever.

Posted by Obenga (Member # 1790) on :

sarah, that was my point also I believe they used to get some goods from asia like silk, if I remember correctly.

Who knows what else was exchanged

good point, Obenga!
Who knows what all came into Egypt with traders.
Although I have read--somewhere!--that the heavy use of the lotus flower MAY have affected the traces of cocaine found. Does anyone know if lotus does contain residue that tests as cocaine?) I understand it is a weak-acting aphrodisiac. No wonder tomb-paintings always showed people sniffing lotus!

Posted by ausar (Member # 1797) on :

Yes,the Lotus in tests shows up the same as the narcotic element in tests. This is well documented by reserchers and widely known.
