This isn't a bad sign. People can have heated exchanges within a debate or discussion, but when it gets to talking about penis sucking, calling people fags and all out insults without being on topic its wrong. No one is going to perfectly sportsman-like, but there are limits.

I've come to regard Tyranno as a good friend and excellent colleague in debates about Ancient Egypt.
It would be a shame for him to leave this forum but it is his choice. In my view the reason that he feels he is unwanted is because he looks up to people like Rasol and Mystery Solver as respected veterans of the message board and feels they are being unecessarily harsh towards him.
If they had the reputation of trolls he would not bother with them. Tyranno is a very curious person who probably asks questions as soon as they come to his mind and if he doesn't fully grasp a topic or is uncertain he may raise the issue to the point of redundancy which may get on certain people's nerves who feel they are experts on the topic and have provided enough info for the unformed to learn.
But even so, while this board has a reputation for credible scholarship and well thought out posts it also has a rep for Elitism which results in some users being too quick to regard others as trolls or very quick to lose patience with them.
You have to have a thick skin on boards like this, but I do think some people are a bit harsh and inconsiderate of others feelings. I think Ausar is right that it is important to have a base when it comes to these discussions and that everyone could benefit from reading books about the topic rather than going in circles learning the same information piece by piece.
