At least we're getting a heads up this time. Is there anything we as posters can do?

Maybe sam could set up a crowdfunding campaign to raise money to buy more bandwidth?

I remember a while back some ads were coming up in the forum
but the ads weren't Egypt themed

I think ads could be done but not so much for this forum
A new forum could be created with a subject more compatible with ads and Egypt related. They used to have some but it could be re-done more strategically,
I can think of a few different improved marketing strategies

^ I don't think they have to be Egypt themed, but ads to something people are interested in buying.

Really, I find it a tad bit disconcerting how some other fora and blogs don't have this problem considering that the content of posts in those places is of lesser quality of what is posted here.

Is there a back up for the posts shared on this site should something happen to the site? The bandwidth issues really highlight how fragile and vulnerable this site currently is.

Couldn't we all just migrate over to EgyptSearchReloaded if this site eventually does kick the bucket?

If it does, that might just be our best alternative. Though a lot of people would have to be made aware that it exists.

^ I'm afraid we could face the phenomenon of moving loss, where posters and lurkers alike will either not get the memo OR simply lose interest due to moving to a new site.

I believe some of the oldest thread posts of this forum is already segregated off into a separate archive webpage.

Interesting. Do you have a link to this separate archive?

^ Now that I look at it, I believe it is a cache of threads back when the section of the forum was titled Ancient Egypt and Egyptology and is still linked to the forum now but for some reason I can only find such threads on some other search engine like google.

Do you have a link to the archives? I'd be lying if I said that the recent bandwidth event didn't increase my concerns.

Whoever handles this sites web server could give us a heads up as well as include us long time posters on ways to acquire (purchase) data.
