Again, what better subterfuge is there than to accuse your enemy of what you yourself have engaged in for years? And the fabricated stories of Muslim women (or alleged converts to Islam) being abducted by Christians in Egypt have indeed provided a handy cover for a new string of disappearances.

Abductions of Christian girls are nothing new, as Coptic Pope Shenouda III observed even in 1976 that "there is a practice to convert Coptic girls to embrace Islam and marry them under terror to Muslim husbands." Meanwhile, the world looks the other way, or now pleads, "but, but... Tahrir Square!"

As Islamic groups "Salafis" and others are emboldened by the lack of challenges they have encountered in the wake of the revolution, there will only be more stories like this.

No Going Back for Egypt's Converted Copts

Posted GMT 5-20-2011 19:15:41

Amid the upheavals in Egypt since January, reports have begun to emerge of a surge in disappearances of Coptic girls.

One priest in Cairo estimates that at least 21 young girls, many as young as 14, have disappeared from his parish alone.

In most cases, when a Christian girl who disappears is found by her family, she has been converted to Islam and married. The Coptic authorities, have even set up a series of refuges in monasteries to handle the growing numbers of girls who wish to return to their families, many of whom are not accepted by their family of origin.

But a worse problem for these women is that their conversion to Islam is irreversible.

Religion is stated on Egyptian ID documents and even though secular law provides for reversions, under the growth of sharia they are very difficult, except for those affording legal advocacy.

This situation is not unique to Egypt. There have been consistent reports of girls being coerced into Islamic conversion and marriage in India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka.

That many of these girls are initially runaways is not in doubt. However, there is also evidence that a huge number are converted and married against their will.

The situation was documented in a controversial report published in 2009 on conversion and forced marriage of Coptic women by Washington DC-based Christian Solidarity International. The authors are Washington academic Michele Clark and Egyptian Coptic broadcast journalist Nadia Ghaly, based in Melbourne.

Between 2005 and 2008 they interviewed and documented 50 Egyptian women, mostly aged between 14 and 25, who had decided to return to their families. All claim to have been tricked, coerced or raped, converted to Islam and married. Most of the interviewees were trying to reconvert to their Christian identity, with limited or no success. The report's conclusions were printed in several major publications, including Forbes magazine.

Since the so-called Arab Spring, and the ensuing riots at Christian churches, the authors are trying to bring the subject of forced conversion and marriage to greater prominence.

Both groups live extremely closed, highly traditional separate lives and the norms surrounding marriage and sex are almost medieval, says Ghaly.

So, for example, it is not unheard of for a young Christian girl from a poor family to run away from an arranged marriage. Yet a high proportion of these women claim coercion, even rape, despite the shame that such a claim will cause if the girl wishes to return.

Many claim they were kept as virtual slaves. Others who were able to leave could not bring their children. Ghaly claims this is more than overt religious oppression, and amounts to "a form of cultural genocide".

She cites a document published by Human Rights Watch in November 2007, which says that even if Coptic women can obtain a divorce from their Muslim husband, those who wish to return to Christianity "meet with refusal and harassment from the Civil Status Department of the Ministry of Interior".

Under sharia law, reconversion is considered apostasy punishable by death.

Cultural baggage? The innovation of modern "extremists?" No. That comes from Muhammad's own orders

Another Jihad Watch article. Psycho post your David Horowitz "hate-preaching" elsewhere.

Guradian writer Brian Whitaker described Jihad Watch as a "notoriously Islamophobic website",[7] while other critics such as Dinesh D'Souza,[26] Karen Armstrong,[27] and Cathy Young,[28] pointed to what they see as "deliberate mischaracterizations" of Islam and Muslims by Spencer as inherently violent and therefore prone to terrorism.

What to do when you can't refute the facts:

1. Attack the source.

This is a logical fallacy as it fails to assess the claim on its merit. The first criterion of a good argument is that the premises must have bearing on the truth or falsity of the claim in question.

2. Attack your opponent:

Abusive ad hominem (also called personal abuse or personal attacks) usually involves insulting or belittling one's opponent in order to invalidate their argument. This tactic is logically fallacious because insults and negative facts about the opponent's personal character have nothing to do with the logical merits of the opponent's arguments or assertions.

quote:
Guradian writer Brian Whitaker described Jihad Watch as a "notoriously Islamophobic website"
A phobia is an irrational fear of something. There is nothing irrational about fearing the ideology of Islam. Jihad watch is an Islamo-realist website. If a phobia is an irrational fear then the real islamophobes are the leftist idiots who dhimmi themselves for fear of offending the islamorageboys.

The Guardian is a mouthpiece of Islamic fundamentalism and anti-semitism. This coming from a journalist from the Guardian,
a newspaper who had a "guest reporter" belonging to the extremist organization Hizb Al-Tahrir, (who described the 7/7 London bombers as "sassy")
Don't hold your breath waiting for a balanced reply from these kind of people?

Brian, as a gay may, should be aware of what Muslims think of gays. If Radical Islam goes unchecked, then the average Liberal will wind up beheaded under Islamic Law.

The term Islamophobia or Islamomania better describe the followers of Islam. The true Islamophobes are not kufr, but Muslims. They all have a pathological fear of Allah..Allah did a good job of striking fear (terror) into the hearts and minds of Muslims...In his book, The Quran, he states very clearly what he has in store for those who stray from the path he set for them...A grievous punishment, and in the next life the burning of flesh...Muhammad did a lot of add ons with statements like pouring molten lead into the ears of anyone listening to a songstress (nice)...

Only Muslims have 'that' kind of Islamophobia. Islamomania is the way the pious hope to cultivate Allah's favor and get into Paradise, which is not guaranteed.

Defining Islamophobia:

Islamophobia: (opposite of Islamophilia or the irrational attraction to a belligerant, geo-political movement whose main doctrine centers around the hatred of all things not Islamic, including women who refuse to wear cloth prisons on their person, gays, men and women who do not have any invisible means of support, Jews, Christians, Hindus, Zoroastrians, Zorro, astrophysicists, and humanity in general.) Thus, Islamophobia is the rational fear of such people.

Fun Fact: not one Muslim organization in the United States ever refers to itself as, for example, The Islamic Society of the United States, but instead uses the term North America. This is because Islam does not see the USA as separate from the entire continent of Allah, who, by the way, happens to be incontinent as was his messenger, peace be up in him.

The Islamophobia backlash, the denial that violence has anything to do with Islamic texts, the search for alternate explanations, the portrayal of Muslims as victims, etc.: call it all collectively "ISLAMORRHEA". "ISLAMOPHOBIA" is a word used to shut down analysis of real events, to shut down reasonable precautionary steps to prevent real violence and submission. Islamorrhea: running off at the mouth, distracting discussion away from investigation of legitimate concerns, dismissing doubters as perverse, using any devices that serve to shield facts about Islam from discussion – is real.

Very weird,
why on earth would an average Muslim guy want to forcibly marry a Coptic girl? Is there a shortage of women in Islam? Why would it be necessary for her to become Muslim? I know a few Coptic girls go missing. I could pretty much hazard a guess why.
I also know that Muslim/Coptic romances are not uncommon, for a miriad of obvious reasons. These relationships cause a headache for both groups. Particulary for the devout Coptic family. [read that again, Very Weird] Copts are not encouraged to marry outside their religion.Whereas A Coptic girl marrying a Muslim can carry on being a Copt; many will choose to convert to Islam to make damn sure she cannot be returned to her family.
A Muslim girl, who wanted to marry a non Muslim [who was not willing to convert] would be in a very tricky situation.
As I said on another thread, the response to interfaith relationships, by members of both faiths, need to be looked at very carefully to examine whether laws are being broken.

Thing is Brian Whitaker a British Non-Muslim national is a respectable journalist for the UK newspaper The Guardian. He actually specializes in the Middle East, and has covered the Middle East since the 80's.

Karen Armstrong is a best seller and a very respected intellectual and works closely with all faiths.

These two individuals don't have hateful agendas such as you do. On the contrary they are trying to educate people about the hate that you and your ilk spew. They are refuting the hate that is spread by your kind. These are intellectuals , who are on record calling out hatred. They are hereos. Respectable human beings who are standing up against hate preaching, such as the kind you spread. You were even called out by a Christian ES member, how quick we forget. You want to discredit Mr. Whitaker and Ms. Armstrong?! [Big Grin]

You are sick in the head. I'm not the only one who observed this fact on ES. Spread your hate elsewhere, not on ES.

".. spread your hate-preaching" elsewhere"

Just because someone dislikes a certain ideology it doesn't mean he is preaching hate.

I do not preach hate, I criticize Islam. In no place I ever said kill Muslims. Playing the role of the victim is part of the Islamic game of deceit and Muslims play that subconsciously. This is psychopathology.

Islamophobia seems to be the only phobia that includes "hate" in the definition. According to Islamist groups, leftist western media anyone who so much as diagrees with a muslim, never mind criticises Islam in the most minor way imaginable, is automatically derided as some sort of irrational racist.

What 'race' is Islam again? I've forgotten...please remind me.

Notice the intellectual sleight of hand here. The term is not "Muslim-phobia" or "anti-Muslimist," it is Islam-ophobia -- fear of Islam -- yet fear of Islam is in no way the same as hatred of all Muslims. One can rightly or wrongly fear Islam, or more usually, aspects of Islam, and have absolutely no bias against all Muslims, let alone be a racist.

The equation of Islamophobia with racism is particularly dishonest. Muslims come in every racial group, and Islam has nothing to do with race. Nevertheless, mainstream Western media, Islamist groups calling themselves Muslim civil liberties groups and various Western organizations repeatedly declare that Islamophobia is racism.

To cite three of innumerable examples: The Guardian published an opinion piece titled, "Islamophobia should be as unacceptable as racism"; the European Union has established the European Monitoring Center for Racism and Xenophobia; and the B'nai B'rith Anti-Defamation Commission of Australia notes that "Muslims have also been the target of racism in Australia, often referred to as Islamophobia."

Even granting that there are people who fear Islam, how does that in any way correlate with racism? If fear of an ideology rendered one racist, all those who fear conservatism or liberalism should be considered racist.

You have a quick cut and paste answer for everything, quite intelligent [Big Grin] [Big Grin] Hate of any kind is wrong. A hateful ideology that demonizes a people or religion does not belong on ES. This is not a hate muslims/islam/arab website. Sorry to disappoint you, it is not Jihad Watch or David Horowitz blog. It's not a Christian extremist website nor Jewish extremist website. Take your hate elsewhere.

I promote the mainstream version of Islam. Your Prophet's version of Islam. Islam as it is taught in Quran and lived by Muhammad, as is reported in the Hadith (Biography and sayings of the Prophet). Muhammad was a fundamentalist himself therefore fundamentalism cannot be separated from true Islam.

What about your version of Islam?

At present, your version of Islam, Quranism is seen as either heretical or worse still, totally irrelevant to Islamic discourse.

You promote hate, the same kind of hate that is spread by recognized hate preachers (spencer, sina, horowitz, etc). Post whatever you want, it's a free board, but don't get a titty seizure when your hatred is called out. I don't care how you view life but when you bring your hatred here on ES, a board that I frequent and have frequented for years, I may point out your hateful agenda.

Do you comprehend bigot?

Really? Jihad Watch, Ali Sina, Daily Mail are the authority of what Islam is?

You are a joke, albeit a hateful one. You are compared to Chinese spammers - they don't spread hate! Your free ride is over. I'm a Muslim I speak and will continue to speak out against your hate, an agnostic spoke against your hate, a Christian spoke against your hate.

Do you get it? You can post whatever you want. It is a free board. But this isn't Jihad Watch, It isn't a Judeo-Christian Extremist website to bash Islam. Your free ride is over, you are getting called out.

Does the sick in the head bigot - get it yet?

Did you thihk nobody would notice that you changed this spiteful bit of childish rubbish?

Get a life.

As with any religion, there ARE valid criticisms to be made of Islam. Many on this board have raised issues that confuse or alienate them. You on the other hand seem to trawl the internet looking for the most outlandish, and largely invalid accusations, that even you must know are anti Arab propaganda aimed at people who are not very bright. 'kidnapping of pious little Christian girls, turning them into sex slaves for mad mullah's ...' What are you on???
Using obscure hadith references to 'prove' your Very Weird ideas just isn't working here is it?
We live here for God's sake. We KNOW Muslims. We KNOW it's rubbish that you post here. NOBODY believes you! Stop.
Try posting on 'visiting egypt'. Maybe you can scare a few potential tourists.

I have fond memories of the Russia debarkle. That has to be, by far and away, the stupidest thing I have ever seen on ES. And I think we all know, there are some pretty damned stupid things said around here.

But what can you expect from someone who's point of reference for their moral compass is the Daily Mail? There was a documentary about them the other night. This guy was doing hunger strikes in London to protest at the way Tamils were being treated in Sri Lanka. So the Daily Mail ran a story that he'd been eating big macs on the sly. Ha ha - really funny. Except this guy not only went from hero to zero in 5 seconds flat, but these are the Tamil Tigers we're talking about - they could have gotten him killed. It was utter BS. There was no way it could have happened, he was somewhere in London - Trafalgar I think maybe. Anyway, there were people queing up 24 hours a day to see him. He was on the verge of death FFS. But this is Johnny foreigner so it's fine to defame him. And it's fine to falsify a statement from Scotland Yard. And St John's ambulance service. And nevermiind the small matter that we're talking about a Tamil, i.e. a Hindu - do Hindu's eat beef? If you're going to make up crap, at least make up believable crap.

It was an excellent program and had those a$$holes at the DM bang to rights. Love a bit of retribution, I do.

The Daily Mail is the scum of the earth. Just thought I'd put that out there.

Right, off for a bigmac, me thinks [Smile]

I promote the mainstream version of Islam. Your Prophet's version of Islam. Islam as it is taught in Quran and lived by Muhammad, as is reported in the Hadith (Biography and sayings of the Prophet). Muhammad was a fundamentalist himself therefore fundamentalism cannot be separated from true Islam.

What about your version of Islam?

At present, your version of Islam, Quranism is seen as either heretical or worse still, totally irrelevant to Islamic discourse.

Almost choked on my coffee there [Big Grin]

MY version of Islam is from Quran, hence YOU calling it Quranism, so what anybody thinks of it is totally irrelevant to ME as MY version of Islam is from GOD, not some guy, not some hate preacher, not Jihad watch with their twisted minds and not Bukhari or anyone else. My version of Islam is ISLAM.

I have fond memories of the Russia debarkle. That has to be, by far and away, the stupidest thing I have ever seen on ES. And I think we all know, there are some pretty damned stupid things said around here.

That is hilarious. [Big Grin] And I agree it's truly unfortunate when a person's “moral compass” is corrupted to the extent that VW is. She is a classic example as you, me, agnostics, christian, etc ES members have pointed out her corrupt and unnatural hatred of Islam. She is however adamant that she is in the right. I posted known intellectuals and journalist who also oppose VW hatred for Islam, yet she dismissed them as being apologetic to “fundamentalist Islam”, these are western non-muslims writers and journalists. So in her corrupted mind ES members and non-muslim personalities who don't agree with her hatred for Islam are Fundamentalist apologists?!

It is very weird, VW is corrupt in head ( a gentle way of saying sick in the head), and I accept this fact. But her days of sh!!ting freely are over. No more of her corrupt mind having refuge on ES.

I knew this little old lady, and in many regards she seemed quite sweet, but she was an avid Daily Mail reader. On this basis, she thought it was ok to say "I'm not racist. I just don't like Pakis". This is the God's honest truth. And here in the UK, Paki isn't a word used to describe a person who hails from Pakistan. It's tantemount to saying nigger - just describes any shade of brown.

Ah, twas a beautiful day where said old lady's granddaughter brought home her huge black boyfriend and stood snogging him on granny's doorstep for all the neighbours to see [Big Grin]

There's nothing outlandish about forcing conversions in Muslim countries. Reports of kidnappings and the forced conversion of Christian girls to Islam are common among the Coptic community.

Instead of attacking me why don't you try to prove me wrong? I can back up my claims, what about you? All you have to do is to read the dozens of Human Rights reports on Egypt.

The report, titled “The Disappearance, Forced Conversions and Forced Marriages of Coptic Christian Women in Egypt” documents dozens of cases of Christian women who were kidnapped and forced into marriage, often after being raped.

Research on the report was done in Egypt by American anti-trafficking specialist Michele Clark and Egyptian women’s rights activist Nadia Ghaly. The report argues that the violence against Egyptian Christians corresponds to the internationally recognized definitions of human trafficking.

“The findings of Ms. Ghaly and Ms. Clark are deeply disturbing, and should challenge human rights activists and institutions, especially those whose mandate includes women’s rights and trafficking in persons, to undertake, as a matter of urgency, further research into this form of gender and religious based violence against Coptic women and girls in Egypt,” said CSI CEO Dr. John Eibner, in the preface of the report.

One case in the report stands out. A 17-year-old woman, called “R” in the report, says that she received a phone call from a man who wanted to meet her in a church. After meeting him there, she told investigators that she was drugged and kidnapped. When she refused to marry a man named Mahmoud, someone she did not know, the man’s family allegedly held her down while he raped her. According to her, she began to bleed profusely and can no longer have children as a result.

Investigators interviewed a local priest who claimed there were over 50 cases of forced conversions of Coptic women and girls to Islam and forced marriages to Muslim men in the past year alone from his church.

“The phenomenon of abductions, forced conversions and marriages of Coptic women by Muslim men remains relatively undocumented, under-reported and generally ignored by the international human rights community,” the report states.

You know, I might devote myself to fighting against that great scourge of society, the Daily Mail, in just the same way as VW throws herself into purging us of that less radicalising influence, Islam. Maybe it's my calling.

Maybe I can save up my pennies and come visit you. Apparently Obama is creating jobs in Egypt. [Big Grin] Try and get this kidnapping Christians thing cleared up before I come. I really don't want to be forced into marriage. [Cool]

Mo Ning post called you out on it, and how you focus on a segment of Islam. Islam as a religion consists of over 1 Billion people. But in your sick mind, the crimes that 1% do, validates the demonization of 1 Billion Muslims.

You are sick in the head.Learn To Be A Human Being

In any case ES members of every persuation are standing against your hate. Or you think this is just an illusion.

Learn to be a human being. This isn't Jihad Watch.

Well, If that's the case, then I want to be the pampered wife. [Big Grin] The others can do the cleaning while I follow my bliss. I will cook but not on demand, just when I feel inspired. He has to be rich so I can continue going to school and he has to be Egyptian, not from Saudi or Pakistan. I also need to be able to travel freely with or without him and I really like to entertain so I don't want the other wives around at these social affairs... If I think of anything else, I will put it in a memo. [Smile]

ps. kissing! [Eek!]
Well, just say so. I thought she may have been beating the poor guy. [Smile]

Slodging just sounds grim. How about 'necking'

The racist old lady story tickled me... it reminded me of an old lass I knew once who refused to eat black jelly babies because she didn't like black people!!!

Fruitcakes, I swear. Hatred towards a stranger based purely on their religion, colour etc is pathetic. What the hell are people so afraid of???

'Splodging' sounds kinda wet. Sounds like the kind of thing you'd need to take your dentures out for.
Although to honest, 'snogging' is awful too, now I come to think about it.
There isn't really a nice word is there?
At least with sex, you can say 'making love'.

Hi...only just got to read this thread...can I ask the stupid question please? So...are Christian girls being kidnapped or not? I know everyone is sick of VW's posts and saying she's just on a hate roll, but back to the original story....are you all saying it's an exageration?
