I'm a sucker for a good movie! i think you can tell a lot about a person from what movies they like. so lets see what kinda member we have in here! lets hope we turn up better results than the 'TEST' thread!!!! (psycho's)!!!
mine is CONTACT. its all about my fav topic the battle between science and religion. i am a Darwinist, i DONT believe most of what is contained in the bible.. but long to believe there is more out there than i can imagine.
gosh, was that a bit deep?
O.K.... it has an intelligent romance in it too.
and im sooooo into the whole SETI thing!

Even though many of the newer movies suck, and I understand this film is really disliked by the upper classes, but I loved the Lemby films.
I appreciate the older films much more, especially anything by actress Shadya.

I dont know much about movies really. The newer ones dont seem to hold my attention. My favorite I have to say was Pay it Forward although this movie made me so mad at the end and i cried for days. The newer movies are ok but I dont know they seem to lack something. I watched Crash it was ok, Also one called 11:13 that one is interesting but you have to pay close attention to every detail as the movie jumps around until the end when everything you have seen is put in order and comes together, this one does an excellent job of showing how one persons action can affect so many that dont even know them.

Sonomod, are we to deduce from this that you only want to discuss something you have openly admitted to trying to filter with western comparatives?

You'd need to discuss Egyptian films in order to compare them to western films.

i have listened to you rant on for days about everything! we ourselves had a little 'discussion' about Peter North, Type O and a certain amount of pornography..... none of which are Egyptian... and on THIS VERY FORUM!!!!
i shan't continue to point out your glaring contradiction as its hard to make myself heard over the sound of a few heads banging against brick walls, so i will try to answer your question.
the point my dear is this. i joined this forum because i am about to make a huge change to my family's life. i have of course discussed things with my nearest and dearest but they no little if anything about Egypt.
i have of course also researched facts on various things to do with our move, from reliable, factual sources.
this forum is a cross between the two, a chance for me to talk to people about life in Egypt.
i cant speak for anybody else, but i like to build up a bit of a rapport with the people i converse with in here, to understand a little about each other helps. i am placing a certain amount of my trust in ES members hands... on very important subjects. and likewise, i am held in a position of trust also.
the weight of an argument, opinion or piece of advice is utterly dependant upon the source. do you meet someone at a bus stop and trust what they say? what about the man you buy your morning paper from? or in fact which paper you read, or your oldest friend? you need to understand something about a person before you can take their advice.... as much as one can in a faceless medium.
and for the record, this is an open forum where people can talk about lots of different things. perhaps your great wealth of knowledge would be better suited to a book... why dont you SOnomoD off and write one... I'd buy it... i hear toilet rolls in short supply over there!!!!!!

Mina Tannenbaum-because it reminds me of being early twenties, faux intellectual and in love with anything french.Betty Blue for same reason.Plus I love Gabriel Yared soundtrack. Eat Man Drink Woman-because Im a sucker for chinese cinema. Raise the Red Lantern for same reason.

Faw! Faw! Faw!
If it was mongrammed and in a delicate shade of lavender one would purchase a few rolls one'self. Ahemmmmmmmmmm!!! Not for one's use of course!!! for one's maidservants, and pages. One does not lower oneself to enter a water closet, one has one over to tend to one.

I am watching gazzilions Egy movies (dish with Arabic channels ), mainly without translation, but the actors well...act so well I can get the point. Sometimes my husband will translate a word or two after a monologue that lasted 2 minutes, but it is a different story. I love Egyptian crazy humor, as I can compare it to my own (Polish). He he. I like more, however, movies that are based on famous writers' stories (like Naguib Mahfouz) that portray the real life with a great detail and a touch of psychologically charged aura. Egyptian movies are also full of eye pleasing, feminine to the core gameelat, but smashing guys as well.

I've never seen Pay It Forward but my sister gets really excited whenever someone else has seen it. she said it was really upsetting. It sounds sad, I don't think I want to see it. Green Mile would be my favourite if it wasn't so sad. I've taken a liking to any film that doesnt make me cry!

my son loves braveheart. i took him to a castle in scotland where i grew up. our family clan has been there for hundreds of years. there is a branch of our family tree in the castle on display. we were great defenders of the faith. im proud of my heritage but when i looked into it i soon realised how in-bred we all are!!!! still, my son is proud to have a film made about his ancestors!!! excellent film. and i actually thought mel gibson did it very well.... but he always does!!!
