Salam-UK are possibly the first Arabic Band to be based in Staithes. The band was foundered by Ahmed Adnam (guitar/lute), an Egyptian from Guisborough who has written and co-written some of the band's songs with musicians and lyricists from Egypt. Other songs are from Persian, Nubian, Egyptian and Arabic folk traditions and the rhythms and the band say the atmosphere of the music is "inspirational and very danceable."
