It was a question to a DJ in a popular scientific magazine, and I thought : Does it sound false? It doesn't sound false to me, I've learned to appreciate Arabic music as much as Western music. The DJ answered about a different time between tones, and I remembered my Egyptian friend never has heard from the Rolling Stones, while a Dutch friend, who is a music-fanatic, didn't appreciate Arabic music as a gift for her birthday: Nooooooooo, Arabic music???? You won't make me happy with that......while there is enough Arabic music that is worth listening... Its like learning to appreciate different tastes in food. (Which I also learned to appreciate, I really didn't like the sweet, but I do now) It seems that Western people do not appreciate any Arabic music, and as soon as they get used to it, they even like it! Any similar expierences???
