Often we see different countries history and mythology interpreted in films and TV series from USA and Britain. But often the most interesting history movies are those when filmmakers make films about the history of their own countries. Often they can catch moods, nature, people in a more convincing and gripping way than foreigners from different cultures.
Thus as an example a film like Kurosawas Seven Samurai is endlessly more fascinating than an American film about Japanese history like The last Samurai.
I have in two threads already presented three films from the African continent: The Emigrant from Egypt, Yeelen-The Light from Mali and Sarraounia (which takes place in Niger).
