I really hate the quality of the powdered sugar here in Egypt. No matter what recipe I use or technique I can't seem to get rid of the "grainy/gritty" texture of it.
Anyone have a tried and true recipe for a cake frosting using Egyptian powdered sugar?
Thanks in advance for any help. Laura

Well Laura I usually put mine through the processor to try and get it a bit finer then sieve it a couple of times. I know exactly what you mean, it doesn't matter how much you beat it, it still feels like sand between your teeth.
I usually mix mine with butter, whatever flavouring I fancy on the day and a spoonful of hot water. One thing through is if you liquidise some strawberries and mix that in you don't taste the bits of the sugar quite so much.

I have tried what you suggested before. The strawberry idea is new, but I was looking for a good chocolate/fudge frosting.
I wonder where the patisseries/bakeries get there sugar from, as their icing/frostings are always great.

Laura, have you tried making your own icing sugar? I have done this before, when I've ran out. Pop the preferred sugar in a grinder until it becomes a powder. Sieve and grind further, as many times as you like. You can make small quantities at a time this way and it might be better than the market stuff there.

I have something like a small food processor. I will give it a try. Thanks Lumos.
Tina, I am from the states, I know what the quality stuff is like, thats why I am "complaining"
Thanks for the offer, but will just wing it. Have had problems with things sent to me, so don't use that option anymore.
