looks more like idle, unemployed men playing at some version of gang warfare with weapons that are relatively low-tech and higly ineffective. It doesn't seem more newsworthy than turf-warfare knife fights between prison or neighbourhood gangs in the U.S., Britain or France.
And that's why, incidentally, when the Western press comes up with huge kill numbers in Africa's mainly petty wars that only the naive will fall for such propaganda. My point being that even when modern weapons are used, such tend to be of the most basic variety.

Things are more serious though when there is a serious weapons imbalance between opposing sides.
Consider the case of Palestinians fighting Israelis armed with the latest hi-tech weaponry with its enormous fire-power--using only stones, rocks and basic slingshots.
