“A "Black" Man, A Moor, John Hanson

Was the First President of the United States! 1781-1782 A.D.??? George Washington was really the 8th President of the United States! George Washington was not the first President of the United States. In fact, the first President of the United States was one John Hanson. Don't go checking the encyclopedia for this guy's name - he is one of those great men that are lost to history. If you're extremely lucky, you may actually find a brief mention of his name. The new country was actually formed on March 1, 1781 with the adoption of The Articles of Confederation. This document was actually proposed on June 11, 1776, but not agreed upon by Congress until November 15, 1777. Maryland refused to sign this document until Virginia and New York ceded their western lands (Maryland was afraid that these states would gain too much power in the new government from such large amounts of land). Once the signing took place in 1781, a President was needed to run the country. John Hanson was chosen unanimously by Congress (which included George Washington). In fact, all the other potential candidates refused to run against him, as he was a major player in the revolution and an extremely influential member of Congress. As the first President, Hanson had quite the shoes to fill. No one had ever been President and the role was poorly defined. His actions in office would set precedent for all future Presidents. He took office just as the Revolutionary War ended. Almost immediately, the troops demanded to be paid. As would be expected after any long war, there were no funds to meet the salaries. As a result, the soldiers threatened to overthrow the new government and put Washington on the throne as a monarch. All the members of Congress ran for their lives, leaving Hanson as the only guy left running the government. He somehow managed to calm the troops down and hold the country together.

Hanson is one of the most enigmatic figures in US history. He is frequently mentioned in connection with the claim that he was the first President, but fewer facts are clear about his life and accomplishments than is the case with most of his contemporaries. One of the difficulties .this caused was that several writers in the 19th century filled in the blanks with fiction. This article presents only those aspects of the man af1d his character that are either dearly documented or almost universally agreed upon. For various reasons, Hanson has been the subject of a large number of misconceptions or misrepresentations
The origin of the claim that Hanson is the "forgotten" first President stems from a 1932 book by Seymour Wemyss Smith titled John Hanson - Our First President. Nevertheless, officially Hanson was the third presiding officer of the Congress of the United States, and he considered himself a successor to the first two men to hold the office, Samuel Huntington and Thomas McKean, who themselves were successors to prior Presidents of the Second Continental Congress. Nor was the office an executive position like the office

The back of the $2 bill has an engraving of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. In the image is a man who has dark skin and wearing a powdered wig while sitting at the table just to the left of the men standing in the center of the engraving. This dark skinned man is John Hanson in his position as president of the continental congress. In the original painting hanging in the U.S. Capitol Rotunda, the dark skinned man does not appear!!!

[So who the hell is this, who lived in the 19th century, to be photographed?]

At the risk of making you sound like a complete idiot, that "John Hanson" was actually a senator from Liberia in the 1850s, the daguerreotype made least 60 years after the American John Hanson had died.

Some more daguerreotypes of various Liberian politicians.

So are we to assume that John Hanson was a Methuselah-aged black man, who faked his death, left America to settle in Liberia and became a senator for Liberia?

I have asked ´who the hell is he, to be photographed in the 19th century´.

And I stated that he was a Liberian senator, and that many prominent Liberians had daguerreotypes - an early form of photographs - made for them.

As Liberia was something of an American protectorate then, it would make sense that the Liberian elite would be able to have daguerreotypes made for them.

Now, if you're going to continue trolling by stating "who the hell is he to get a photograph", I'll kindly ask that you grow up.

According to some sites John Hanson's black complexion was turned white on this painting, but it can stil be seen on the two-dollar bill. He is sitting behind the small table in the back.

I have been posting many pairs of historical portraits of the European elite, which show the same person as White and as Black. So I can sympathise with this claim. In group paintings they would put the blackest member in the middle, to show I guess that they were all Blue blooded.

ABOUT JOHN HANSON, AMERICA'S FIRST PRESIDENT

This American research ties in neatly with what I have discovered living in Europe. Namely that someone who was born in Europe (1500-1789) could have been Black and belonged to a Black and coloured nation, defined by me as 'a European fixed mulatto race.' So if Hanson was born in Sweden, and his family was part of the elite, he could have been Black, with Classical African traits as well. In this quote King Gustav Adolf is mentioned. Perhaps Gustav III or his son Gustav IV Adolf. J.R. Rogers wrote about Gustav IV's African looks in 'Sex and Race' (1941). It's a pity that site as these are not visited by the truly informed so we could exchange information, and make progress.

Egmond Codfried

quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
He was the heir of one of the greatest family traditions in the colonies and became the patriarch of a long line of American patriots – his great-grandfather died at Lutzen beside the great King Gustavus Aldophus of Sweden; his grandfather was one of the founders of New Sweden along the Delaware River in Maryland; one of his nephews was the military secretary to George Washington; another was a signer of the Declaration; still another was a signer of the Constitution; yet another was Governor of Maryland during the Revolution; and still another was a member of the first Congress; two sons were killed in action with the Continental Army; a grandson served as a member of Congress under the new Constitution; and another grandson was a Maryland Senator. Thus, even if Hanson had not served as President himself, he would have greatly contributed to the life of the nation through his ancestry and progeny.

As a youngster he began a self-guided reading of classics and rather quickly became an acknowledged expert in the juridicalism of Anselm and the practical philosophy of Seneca – both of which were influential in the development of the political philosophy of the great leaders of the Reformation. It was based upon these legal and theological studies that the young planter – his farm, Mulberry Grove was just across the Potomac from Mount Vernon – began to espouse the cause of the patriots.

In 1775 he was elected to the Provincial Legislature of Maryland. Then in 1777, he became a member of Congress where he distinguished himself as a brilliant administrator. Thus, he was elected President in 1781. Was John Hanson the first President of the United States?

The new country was actually formed on March 1, 1781 with the adoption of The Articles of Confederation. This document was actually proposed on June 11, 1776, but not agreed upon by Congress until November 15, 1777. Maryland refused to sign this document until Virginia and New York ceded their western lands (Maryland was afraid that these states would gain too much power in the new government from such large amounts of land). In fact, all the other potential candidates refused to run against him, as he was a major player in the Revolution and an extremely influential member of Congress.

None of the people serving in the Continental Congress prior to the signing of the Constitution can be called president of "The United States" as the Office of President of the United States is defined by the Constitution along with the United States as a nation. Prior to that you had a confederacy called the Continental Congress and a President of the United States in Congress Assembled, which Hanson was. But that is NOT the same as President of the United States as defined by the Constitution which replaced the Articles of Confederation of the United States. The major difference being that the later Constitution featured a stronger central government, while the Articles of Confederation had a weaker central government and more power in the states. According to some, Hanson never really agreed with the federalist ideas of the new constitution.

[George Washington with a Moor, not a slave, not a mulatto William Lee!]
[John Trumbull's 1780 painting George Washington also depicts William Lee.]

Presidents
George Washington (1732-99)
George Washington was rather fond of heraldry, as the following quote suggests:
It is far from my design to intimate an opinion, that Heraldry, Coat-Armor, etc. might not be rendered conducive to public and private use with us; or that they can have any tendency unfriendly to the purest spirit of Republicanism. On the contrary, a different conclusion is deducible from the practice of Congress, and the states; all of which have established some kind of Armorial Devices, to authenticate their official instruments.
George (of a patrician bent, it is true) used his arms (Argent, two bars beneath three mullets gules) on seals and book-plates. These arms appear on the flag of the District of Columbia.

==================================================

William Lee, detail from painting below.

John Trumbull's 1780 painting George Washington also depicts William Lee.

William Lee (c. 1750–1828), also known as Billy Lee or Will Lee, was George Washington's personal servant and the only one of Washington's slaves freed outright by Washington in his will. Because he served by Washington's side throughout the American Revolutionary War and was sometimes depicted next to Washington in paintings, Lee was one of the most publicized African Americans of his time.

On 3 May 1768, George Washington purchased Lee, then a teenager described in Washington's account book as "Mulatto Will", from the estate of the late Colonel John Lee of Westmoreland County, Virginia for sixty-one pounds and fifteen shillings. William kept the surname "Lee" from this previous owner. Also purchased at this time was William's brother Frank, as well as two other slaves. Washington paid high prices for William and Frank, as they were to be household slaves rather than field laborers. Light-skinned mulattoes like William and Frank were often chosen to serve as domestic servants, who were given responsibilities and privileges most slaves never enjoyed. Frank became Washington's butler at Mount Vernon, while William served in a variety of roles, including Washington's valet or manservant. As valet, Lee performed chores such as brushing Washington's long hair and tying it behind his head.

This is supposed to show President George Washington and his valet William Lee. But Lee is described as a mulatto, and here we see a Classical African, a Moor. It's more likely that this portrait shows Washington's Blue Blood, symbolised by a Moor, not a slave.

The Moor behind George Washington, a symbol of his Blue Blood, his noble British descent. Not a slave.

John Hanson is said to be "the heir of one of the greatest family traditions in the colonies and became the patriarch of a long line of American patriots—his great grandfather died at Lutzen beside the great King Gustavus Aldophus of Sweden"

Sweden at that time was ruled by the Royal House of Oldenburg which has links to King George III of Great Britain & Ireland 1730-1820 through the House of Hanover. Therefore, John Hanson, the Third President of The United States of America was a subject of King George III when: " The new country was actually formed on March 1, 1781 with the adoption of The Articles of Confederation"

The Black Nobility of Europe was still very much in place and had not yet bred out. Therefore John Hanson was linked to the Black Nobility of Sweden.

Let this thread serve as a testament to the lunacy one WILL experience when dabbling with Afrocentrism. Daguerreotype photography was not even fucking invented until nearly a century after John Hanson, president of the Continental Congress, served office. And the Negro being touted by this amazing asinine, Egmond, as John Hanson, president, had his photo taken using the daguerreotype camera.

FYI, the Negro was actually an emancipated slave who repatriated to Bassa Co., Liberia, and there he became a senator.
