Having seen previews for "Precious", the movie sounds like it's insulting to both black men and women. It has both a nasty, fat black woman and a black male rapist. Can you get any more stereotypical than that?

^^Sure you can get more stereotypical... how about "white" Egyptians versus "foreign" Nubians..
And those leading the charge on it are too often white liberals making all the soothing noises about "diversity" rather than the standard "conservatives"..
Speaking of liberals, according to the review by Reid, some blacks have found it quite profitable to pimp negative black imagery for white liberals, the presumed "role models" for black folk: [quote]
One of those who praised White’s review printed in The New York Press, was Kofi Natambu the brilliant young editor of The Panopticon Review. I asked him what he thought was behind Precious:
“The withering contempt and sheer malice for black people (and especially black men) that this film represents and embodies is an integral part of a very disturbing and destructive trend among a number of cultural hustlers, thieves, and conmen and women in film, literature, theatre, and the music industry that is being vigorously promoted and marketed by white corporations and Madison Avenue. It's no coincidence that the increasingly casual and overt racism that is routinely displayed in advertising and the media generally is working hand in glove with the contemptible and venal likes of artistic pimps and prostitutes like Lee Daniels, Tyler Perry, and Oprah Winfrey. This development has been dismissing, marginalizing, and destroying the impact and influence of genuine African American artists in all the arts now since the mid '90s and has in the past decade reached its vicious apex in the heinous "work" of such black retrograde and reactionary assholes as the people producing and directing this film. Remember Percival Everett’s brilliant novel from 2001 called “Erasure?” Remember his devastating critique of this nexus of white racism and black minstrel confidence schemes in his rendering of the phony black author (who sounds a LOT like Sapphire!) called ‘My Pafology?’ as now this is what this ugly marriage between the white corporate media and Uncle Tom/Aunt Thomasina minstrelism has come to in the modern world. If something is not done to stem this tide it's only going to get worse and soon.
"My Pafology indeed.”
Armond White wrote:
“Winfrey, Perry and Daniels make an unholy triumvirate. They come together at some intersection of race exploitation and opportunism. These two media titans—plus one shrewd pathology pimp—use Precious to rework Booker T. Washington’s early 20th-century manifesto Up From Slavery into extreme drama for the new millennium: Up FromIncest, Child Abuse, Teenage Pregnancy, Poverty and AIDS. Regardless of its narrative details about class and gender, Precious is an orgy of prurience. All the terrible, depressing (not uplifting) things that happen to 16year-old Precious recall that memorable All About Eve line, “Everything but the bloodhounds nipping at her rear-end.’”
As a result of his dissent A.O. Scott dismissed Armond White as “a contrarian” which means that his conclusions about the film differed from those of white critics. The late Tillie Olson, a genuine progressive, had it right when she pointed out, sagaciously, in The New York Time’s Magazine, that many whites engage in a perverse voyeurism when viewing black culture.
They want to peek behind the curtains of black life to seek confirmation that all of the myths they’ve heard about black life are true. Richard Wright said that “The Negro is America’s metaphor.” More like America’s anti-depressant. People who are miserable in their own lives getting off by consuming black depravity, a big business. What is wrong with all these bitter black women about? Revenge is never enough, no, not even after destroying the image of black men on her shows and getting paid billions to do it.

I hated that triflent azz movie "Beloved". And i don't really mean to inject a "triflence" connotation into that film -- it did enough of that to itsself. I'm not at all one to be squeamish, gay or overlyprudent like this but ... Lmao in the middle of the movie there's a totally pointless scene where a woman kneels and pisses in the grass. Totally unconnected to the scences immediately before and after it. It's much more hilarious than it is annoying but..
It's not the act, it's that the meaning of the scene was "this scene is about nothing other than a triflent connotation"

I'd characterize it more as a concerted attempt by Hollywood to dehumanize.

She not only dehumanizes Black male, but also female. I just don't get it why Helle Berry was praised for her role in the film which is nothing but a pornographic movie. Don't they know it is a metaphor like the old days where the master raped his female slaves, but instead, today is considered the highest achievement for an actor.

Well people I stumbled across a website I hope all take the time to read.
It speaks about society and the entertainment industry. It shows a lot of these start musicians and actors are under the hold of the Illuminati and all the masonic symboliysm in the songs and videos.
Rihanna for one has a song that promotes suicide to the youth and we all know that there is impressionable people who will act on what these stars are saying in there songs.
The world is an evil and corrupt place. Oprah is just doing her part to stigmatize and hate on Africans, AA, Black people in general. We have to see these people for what they are and speak out against them. WHen I read one of the articles on that forum, I was shocked how blatant they were showing evil satanic symbols and how they basically have this in so much of the videos on TV these days.

As I walk the streets of Hollywood Boulevard Thinkin' how hard it was to those that starred In the movies portrayin' the roles Of butlers and maids slaves and hoes Many intelligent Black men seemed to look uncivilized When on the screen Like a guess I figure you to play some jigaboo On the plantation, what else can a nigger do And Black women in this profession As for playin' a lawyer, out of the question For what they play Aunt Jemima is the perfect term Even if now she got a perm So let's make our own movies like Spike Lee Cause the roles being offered don't strike me There's nothing that the Black man could use to earn Burn Hollywood burn

BREAKING: Woman Runs Over Husband Because Oprah Quit Quote
Woman Runs Over Husband Because Oprah Quit
Chicago Inquirer 11/21/2009
CHICAGO - A crazed local woman ran over her husband last night hours after Oprah Winfrey announced the end of her daytime talk show.
Peg Bundy, of 9764 Jeopardy Lane, struck her husband, Al Bundy, with the family's 1971 Dodge in the parking lot of the Jiggly Room. Mr. Bundy was inside the strip club celebrating the demise of Oprah Winfrey's show with several friends.
Mr. Bundy suffered two broken legs and was immediately taken to the hospital by next door neighbor Jefferson D'Arcy and several other friends belonging to a local anti-feminist group known as NO MA'AM.
According to witnesses, Mrs. Bundy was accompanied in the passenger seat by D'Arcy's wife, Marcy D'Arcy. Mrs. D'Arcy is being charged as an accomplice to the crime for encouraging Ms. Bundy to keep running over her husband.
According to Bud Bundy, son of the Bundys, the incident began when Mr. Bundy laughed his posterior off at Mrs. Bundy while Oprah was making her tearful announcement that she was quitting her daytime talk show. Mr. Bundy proceeded to leave the house and go to the Jiggly Room to celebrate with his friends.
According to the son Bud; "I don't know what happened. My mother just snapped. She went to the Jiggly Room and tried to get my father out of there. When that didn't work, she waited in the Dodge out in the parking lot and then proceeded to run over my father as he staggered outside."
In response, the Bundy's daughter Kelly replied "Dad shouldn't have laughed at Mom. He was totally insensitive to her. Serves him right."

If the popularity of 'Precious' in mainstream white audiences is due to the perpetuation of stereotypes then it is indeed a sad and pathetic dilemma. However, it should be know that this film and the book which it is based on is NOT about perpetuating any negative stereotypes about blacks but about the serious situation of physical and sexual abuse not only within the black community but in ALL communities!
By the way, I thought the real reason why Oprah is quitting her show is because of Obama whom she endorsed!

The view of the black male sexual predator is disturbing enough but according to what I've heard even the nasty fat black mother is also sexually abusive! What bothers me most though is that THIS is the role that Monique (the actress who portrays her) could win an Oscar for!!
I mean seriously! Is it me or do all the black women nominated for an Oscar get roles as messed up characters-- Halle Berry for 'Monster's Ball' Viola Davis in 'Doubt' and now this atrocity?!
