Yes. Some are Muurs too.

It is not the skin colour alone. It is the content of the character that differentiates Muurs from wild men.

It is bloodline and nationality.

Malcom X showed you that John Brown was a Muur; Joe Slovo was a Muur. Ruth First was a Muur. We honour those who honour us.

Guy Scott could also be a Muur. So far I like his sound.

Recall, the Muurs are the original nobility. Noble in character and action.

"albino" is not a character term, it's pure biological description

It is a physical description. It also has social and moral connotations.

Recall the teachings of Elijah Muhammed. Blacks or Muurs come in all colours because they are the original people. They are the first nations.

In every genetic haplogroup, you will find Muurs as the head founders.

Doug has a malevolent agenda. He has a mind of a wild albino. he speaks with twisted tongue.

All the genuine Africans on this board have complained at what he does but he only digs in more.

Africa is not a basket case, and most Africans have never been inside a ghetto.

The priorities of the west are not those of the Africans. Different value sets, different targets.

The west is dying, Africa is rising.

But malevolent Dog would wish evil on us all just to actualize his pornographic fantasies of poverty.

The USA are planning to get energy self sufficient by 2017. The USA are exploiting the midwest oil and they are using fracking to exploit gas from water spring and rock shell.

The USA didnt cut their oil import from Saudi Arabia that is financing worlwide terrorism and Wahabism Islam.Nigeria need to develop their computer, software and high tech industry. They need a silicon valley of internet company.Nigeria is curently becoming an industrialise country. In the future they will consume large part of their oil production.

Dog

Kikuyu and me caught you out several times spamming false propaganda. Shame on you. Are there white schools in Kenya? LOL!

We already told you, there are rich and poor in every nation, amongst every people.

There are hundreds of millions of materially wealthy black people taking advantage of the opportunities that open up daily. Africa is on the rise!

The only one who fails to see that is the malevolent Dog pretending to be sorry for black people. A myopic bytch who thinks that all Muurs come from the ghettos. Hypocrite.

Worse, just like Jay-hootie, you are not even a black man yet you are an expert in Black man's problem. LMAO!

Muurish Science Teachings for Hungry Dog:

quote:
The Moorish Science Temple attracted mostly Black Americans. Noble Drew however was no racist, though he held certain racial theories. Blacks, he said, are Moabites or Moors, and under this identity he taught pride to a race of oppressed sufferers. Moors are an "Asiatic Race" --but so are many others. For example, Noble Drew identified Celts as an Asiatic Race; later, when Whites of various sorts became interested in Moorish Science, he identified all such as "Persians," a sort of spiritual rather than factual identity. For Moorish Americans Morocco is a "promised land"; this shows the influence of Garveyite "Return" teachings, and provides an interesting link between Moorish Science and Rastafarianism. Moorish Orthodoxy (despite its name) gives all these teachings an esoteric significance. For us, "The Asiatic Nation of North America" includes all who embrace some form of the Oriental Wisdom, whatever their other affiliations, and "Morocco" signifies their goal, "illuminated" consciousness.

Come on man you are spouting nonsense. Africa is on the rise! Yet the wealth gap in South Africa is as big as it has ever been.....

So I guess because there are rich and poor everywhere, black folks can't complain because the white "Muurs" never did anything wrong huh?

LOL! And the fact is that many black folks actually think like this.

So these black women and the white dude are all the same and one big happy family? They are all equal?

You are a fake and a fraud but be that as it may, people need to see the truth and stop believing in nonsense. These people aren't brothers to anybody. They have no problem sitting there sipping up wine and having a good time while the NATIVES of that land who they robbed are starving right outside. Absolutely NO PROBLEM AT ALL.

But you talk that garbage about "noble" white Muurs.

Please.

Anyway. For sane folks that like the truth. Here is more of it.

Now here are WHITE folks speaking the truth:
quote:

To add fuel to this fire, the BBC recently aired a documentary on Glasenberg, Glencore and the tax quandary Ruschlikon is dealing with. The film opens with a black screen on which the question is written: "How much profit is fair?" This is followed with footage of the idyllic village with its pristine streets, houses and waterways.

"Ruschlikon, a tiny village on the outskirts of Zurich and one of the richest communities in Switzerland."

"Real estate prices are booming, unemployment is virtually non-existent, and social problems are few and rare," the voice continues. The documentary tells the story of how one of Ruschlikon’s five thousand or so inhabitants gave it a massive tax windfall. "However, Glencore's copper mines in Zambia don't generate similar tax windfalls for Zambians," the makers of the film state. "The country has the third largest copper reserves in the world, but 60% of the population live on less than $1 a day and 80% are unemployed."

Filmmaker Christoffer Guldbrandsen investigates what is described as "the dark heart of the tax system employed by multi-nationals" and asks very uncomfortable questions about contemporary poverty, those who get extraordinarily rich and those who remain desperately poor. He contrasts the wealthy municipality of Ruschlikon with Zambia, where – as noted – nearly two-thirds of the population lives on less than a dollar a day.
Guldbrandsen shows how Glencore, which controls over half of the world’s copper production, mines copper in Zambia, pays minimal wages in a country where unemployment is rife and then asks why Zambia gets such minor benefit while Glencore, Glasenberg and Rüschlikon grow richer every day.

The fact that Glencore taxes have made Rüschlikon so rich becomes darkly ironic when it is learned that the multinational was accused of evading taxes in Zambia. The charities received a leaked report which alleges Glencore increased costs in a mining operation in the copper-rich country between 2006 and 2008, as a means of tax avoidance. Glasenberg's company denied the charges, but this didn't stop the European Investment Bank freezing loans to the company because it had "serious concerns" about Glencore's corporate governance. Back in Zambia, this case, which involved Glencore's Mopani copper mines in that country, has become a rallying point for activists who believe the billions should be going to Zambian development.

In April last year, the BBC's Panorama reported that Glencor stood accused of "paying the associates of paramilitary killers in Colombia" and "profiting from child labour in a mine in the Congo". Glasenberg denied the allegations.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=WNYemuiAOfU

But to hear some clowns tell it, Africans are just doing great and the white folks are poor and starving. And the vast parks and reserves full of beautiful nature and wildlife in Africa with NO AFRICANS is cool and awesome and great.

And the FUNNIEST PART in all of this is that the black South Africans allow themselves to be called racists by these clowns who have spent the last 500 years creating RACIAL APARTHEID and EUGENICS based societies all over the planet for their own profit and have NOT ONCE been punished. They shouldn't even have the courage to say such things, because not only is it offensive but it is so blatantly DUMB as to not even begin to make any sense. It is like calling a Jewish person a Nazi. Now nobody in their right mind would do such a thing because they FEAR what would happen to them, but shoot they aren't worried about the black folks doing anything and they say these things ALL DAY.

http://www.citypress.co.za/columnists/city-press-debate-are-we-strangers-in-a-strange-land-kay-sexwale/

Oh and back to the point on Zambia. WHO is exploiting the minerals? The WHITE folks. And listen to this black clown in the video say "we don't have time to stop (investors from stealing from Africans)". Doesn't that sound stupid? A black clown behind politician who says it is this NOT HIS JOB. So WHOSE JOB IS IT? Are you SERIOUSLY thinking that white folks who have spent the last 500 years getting rich stealing from black folks to feel bad and suddenly stop? And this is precisely the same DUMB AZZ attitude of ALL black politicians in ALL of Africa. Just wait for the white folks to turn around and stop stealing from you and give you some of your money back. And as we all see, it isn't happening.

And the black Africans don't even have electricity because there is no national grid. And what is a prime component of electrical wiring networks? You got it. COPPER.

quote:

Despite competition from other materials, copper remains the preferred electrical conductor in nearly all categories of electrical wiring with the major exception being overhead electric power transmission where aluminium is often preferred.[67][68] Copper wire is used in power generation, power transmission, power distribution, telecommunications, electronics circuitry, and countless types of electrical equipment.[69] Electrical wiring is the most important market for the copper industry.[70] This includes building wire, communications cable, power distribution cable, appliance wire, automotive wire and cable, and magnet wire. Roughly half of all copper mined is used to manufacture electrical wire and cable conductors.[71] Many electrical devices rely on copper wiring because of its multitude of inherent beneficial properties, such as its high electrical conductivity, tensile strength, ductility, creep (deformation) resistance, corrosion resistance, low thermal expansion, high thermal conductivity, solderability, and ease of installation.

Spamming malevolence, and fallacies of argument.

The Thread Opener is about Zambian Vice Presidency. About Guy Scott a man who walks like John Brown and Joe Slovo.

What is wrong in giving him respect?

The malevolent Doug uses it as an opportunity to patronize on "black folks" as losers ghetto dwellers. While he bigs up his cagotic tribe as all powerful, all rich all joyful. Ominipotent.

Hungry Dog it no go so. We have taught you Muurish science on this website for more than 8 years now but you only seem to sink into more schadenfreude and malevolence dark arts wizard casting evil spells.

Shut your fuk, Dog, shut your shyt-eating hole.

Stop waltzing and wzing around the subject. Your straw man's argument is simply another attempt to escape the reality.

One question you have been running away from:

Since white people are so much better off than black people, why is it that infinitely more white people commit suicide? Whereas only an infinitesimal number of black people commit suicide?

Why malevolent Dog, why? This is the key to all your wicked thoughts....suicide

Dog do you think of suicide like your cousins? Dog do you ever fantasize of hanging yourself.. be honest..

Access to electricity (% of population) in Zambia
The Access to electricity (% of population) in Zambia was 18.80 in 2009, according to a World Bank report, published in 2010. Access to electricity is the percentage of population with access to electricity. Electrification data are collected from industry; national surveys and international sources. This page includes a historical data chart, news and forecasts for Access to electricity (% of population) in Zambia.

http://www.tradingeconomics.com/zambia/access-to-electricity-percent-of-population-wb-data.html

quote:

The third public hearing on the proposal by the Zambia Electricity Supply Corporation (ZESCO) to review its tariffs has opened in Lusaka today.

The first two meetings were held in Livingstone and Kitwe.

Zesco Managing Director Cyprian Chitundu said during a presentation at the meeting that Zambia risks failing to meet her vision of being a middle income country by 2030 if electricity tariffs are not adjusted upwards.

Mr. Chitundu said the demand for electricity will rise to about 2,389 mega watts (MW) by 2015 thereby creating a deficit of about 540 mega watts if the tariffs were not adjusted upwards.

He also said without a tariff increase, there will be more load shedding, unreliable supply, restricted investment and derailment of development projects in the country

He restated that the quantity of electricity in the country was not sufficient to meet the demand noting that there was currently a shortfall of 165 mega watts between 18:00hrs and 20:00hrs.

Mr. Chitundu said the current domestic peak hour demand doesn’t meet the capacity because the country has changed a lot economically since the time of independence.
He said the solution to the electricity shortage would lay in the company’s plans to construct more power stations through investing about US$3.7 billion on assets and infrastructure this year and $26.4 billion in the next five years.

Mr. Chitundu said about 75 percent of the Zambian population has no access to electricity.

He said it was the desire of the company to fulfill government’s plans to have the entire country connected to the national electricity grid by 2030.

But Zambia National Farmers Union (ZNFU) vice chairperson Evelyn Nguleka opposed the tariff hike saying the move will among other things push the inflation of the country.

Dr. Nguleka said farmers were the biggest users of electricity and an increase in their cost of production will be passed on to the ordinary Zambians.

She further said if approved, the electricity tariff increase will also hamper the capacity of the agriculture sector as most farmers will not be able to export their produce.

http://www.zambianwatchdog.com/without-electricity-increase-there-will-be-more-load-shedding-chitundu/

So if there are all these kilowatts of electricity being generated in Zambia, who is getting access to it? I am quite sure that the whites in Zambia have access.

And we all know that IronLung is a liar since he claims that white folks in Africa are doing bad.... yeah doing bad in country club suburbs. Sure. Lets have sympathy for them.

So uhh lets see how white folks are doing in Zambia again shall we? I mean since some folks haven't learned anything:

There is also a small population of English people there. Malevolent Dog, where in Zambia did you meet up with Afrikaners??? LMAO! [Big Grin]

2. There are no whites only school in Kenya.

3. And yes, Zambia and all of Africa have electricity grid.

Malevolent dog, you are a fuching illiterate without any basic knowledge of Africa except from what you see in google images.

The ANC government has now officially taken the Afrikaner Language away as an official language South Africa. This is the aim of the ANC, to totally obliterate the white minority that built this country, that they are doing their damndest to destroy.

This move is like banning English in Ireland, Scotland and Wales or American and reverting back to Sioux or Apache as the official languages.

Racism is the heart of the ANC and they will do anything to get the whites out of South Africa by 2014, for the forming of the Federated States of Southern Africa.

“Die, my beloved country, for those fathers and ancestors that gave their lives for YOUR freedom, now weep in their graves as the ANC hierarchy is raping the poor and enriching themselves through corruption, like the world has never seen.

It does not represent the education system for the majority of Kenyans.

Zambia produces so much electricity it exports power to 4 Muurish African country.

Dog read and get an education:

quote:
Lion says: Zambia exports power to several of its neighbours, however, only eighteen percent of the Zambian population have access to electricity. There are two major power entities in Zambia. ZESCO (Zambian Electricity Supply Company Ltd.) is the national authority and went up for privatisation in 1999. ZESCO generates power and is responsible for transmission and distribution.

The other power organisation is CAPC (Central African Power Corporation). CAPC is jointly owned by Zambia and Zimbabwe. The two countries share equally the costs and output of the corporation. CAPC exploits the hydro potential of the Kariba complex, which consists of the Kariba North and Kariba South power stations, Kariba dam and any future dams which may be constructed on the Zambezi river. Lake Kariba is the collection point for a vast catchment area spanning several millions of square kilometres. The Upper Catchment extends over the western half of Zambia and into Angola. The Lower Catchment covers a large part of Zimbabwe and is fed by the lake, Cahora Bassa in Mozambique. Lake Kariba itself is about 300 km long and the international boundary between Zambia and Zimbabwe runs down the middle of the lake. CAPC operates the dam and the two Kariba power stations. ZESCO is responsible for bulk sales in Zambia and for the cost of generation at Kafue and Victoria Falls power stations. The Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority (ZESA) is responsible for the costs of Bulawayo, Harare, Hwange and Munyati thermal power stations which link into the system.

CAPC operates a transmission system from Kariba connecting into both the Zambian and the Zimbabwe networks. The system consists of 330 kV overhead lines linking Kariba and is paid for by the two national utilities.

Zambia has an installed power capacity of 2500 MW, with 705 MW of this power coming from facilities at Kariba.

The Government has paid K3 billion towards the electrification of the Kaputa district of the country. 121community-based organisations and 9 schools in rural areas of Zambia will be getting BP Solar panels to generate electricity for lighting, radio, television and refrigeration. The panels will be supplied by Apex-BP Solar, a subsidiary of BP France, which has been awarded a contract through its distributor Electrical Maintenance Lusaka Limited (EML) by Zambia Social Investment Fund. Apex-BP Solar will supply, the solar panels, EML will deliver and install the panels and also train their users in various schools and health centres in Zambia. The project will produce a peak power of almost 250 kilowatts (kWp).

Zambia Social Investment Fund, a unit of the Ministry of Finance and National Planning, is managing a development credit agreement signed with the International Development Association (IDA). EML, which is based in Lusaka began its activities in 1964 and focused on electrical contracting services and maintenance. It has expanded over the years and employed at its peak a total staff of 600 employees active in various fields including the manufacture of electrical light fittings, domestic and security lighting, distribution boards and motor control centres. EML has succeeded in the last few years to become one of the major players in the solar industry in Zambia.

The Southern Suburbs are a group of suburbs in Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa. This group includes Rondebosch, Claremont, Plumstead, Ottery, Wynberg, Newlands, Constantia and Bishopscourt, and to some aspects Pinelands and Observatory too.

Cape Town's Southern Suburbs lie to the Southeast of the slopes of Table Mountain within rich valleys and vast plains reaching from just south of the Table Bay industrial neighbourhoods in the north to the False Bay coastal suburbs and the Cape Peninsula cliffs to the south, and are crossed North-South by the M5 and M3 motorways. In general this area is identified as being the more affluent of the Cape Town Metropolis' sections and includes the city's most expensive residential neighbourhoods.

The majority of the Southern Suburbs' just over 100,000 inhabitants (as of 2001) is White English-speaking.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Southern_Suburbs,_Cape_Town

quote:

The Cape Flats is an expansive, low-lying, flat area situated to the southeast of the central business district of Cape Town. Described by some as 'Apartheid's dumping ground', from the 1950s the area became home to people the apartheid government designated as non-White. Race-based legislation such as the Group Areas Act and pass laws either forced non-white people out of more central urban areas designated for white people and into government-built townships in the Flats, or made living in the area illegal, forcing many people designated as Black into informal settlements elsewhere in the Flats.

The Flats have since then been home to much of the population of Greater Cape Town, and most of the residents in the area are of African descent. This area includes the neighbourhoods of Mitchell's Plain, Gugulethu, Nyanga, and Khayelitsha.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cape_Town

But anyway. Obviously the whites aren't poor or down in out in South Africa or anywhere else in Africa for that matter. The ONLY people down and out are the blacks and WE ALL KNOW WHY. And the reason is that they have bought into a lie and fairy tale and refuse to build anything for themselves, as opposed to pretending the white system is going to provide for them as a community, when it isn't.

How many white people are there in Zambia?

Dog the malevolent has told the world that Zambia runs a plantation economy where its people only slave for white people who lord it over them. White people like Guy Scott [who in truth is just a mascot used by the Zambian political system].

Let's see those mythical white slave masters of Zambia.

Doug the malevolent, I hope you are taking note:

quote:
Zambia

At the brink of the country's independence in 1964, there were roughly 70,000 Europeans (mostly British) in Zambia (Northern Rhodesia before independence), making up roughly 2.3% of the 3 million inhabitants at the time.[27] Zambia had a different situation compared to other African countries. It included segregation, similar to South Africa, Rhodesia (Zimbabwe) and South-West Africa (Namibia); but as the Europeans constituted a smaller fraction of the population they did not dominate politics. There were a few cities in Northern Rhodesia that had British place names, but all except one (Livingstone) were changed when the country became independent or soon after.

.....

When Zambia became independent in 1964, the majority of white settlers left for Rhodesia , just by crossing the border. An almost identical town of Victoria Falls lies on the other side, and benefited from the white people's crafts and abilities. This enabled them to improve the situation on the white-controlled Rhodesian side, and therefore Livingstone soon became desolate and unused. However, since the economic problems in Zimbabwe since the start of the 21st century, the situation has very much turned around as the Zambian side has become more attractive to tourists and therefore Livingstone is once again improving (at the expense of Victoria Falls).

And that school in Kenya is run by whites, even if blacks go there and there are a lot of white students there.

EML has succeeded in the last few years to become one of the major players in the solar industry in Zambia.

quote:
Lion says: List of Power Stations in Zambia serving Urban and rural areas:

Kafue Gorge Power Stations, 900 MW
Kariba Dam North Power Station, 720 MW (upgrading to 1080 MW scheduled finished December 2012)
Victoria Falls Power Station, 108 MW
Four smaller hydropower stations: Lusiwasi (12MW), Musonda Falls (5MW), Chishimba Falls (6MW) and Lunzua (750KW).

Sorry Dog the malevolent, did that hurt?

It hurt laughing so hard at you. Do you read your own posts:
quote:
Lion says: Zambia exports power to several of its neighbours, however, only eighteen percent of the Zambian population have access to electricity.
So yeah.... they are exporting the electricity and not providing it to their own people. And let me guess, you are going to say that the electricity is being consumed by Africans.... lol

quote:

nergy fuels economic development and the evidence is before our eyes every day. Businesses require a steady supply of energy to produce goods and services. Electricity allows school children to study after sunset and hospitals need it to save lives Insufficient or irregular energy supply is associated with significant economic cost for businesses and households. Lack of access to clean energy also creates a myriad of health and environmental hazards, such as indoor pollution from cooking on traditional open-fire stoves and deforestation.

Unfortunately, affordable access to clean energy remains an elusive dream for most Tanzanians, especially those living outside of urban centers and the poor:

Only 14 percent of the Tanzanian population has access to electricity in 2010.
Rural areas are virtually disconnected from the national electrical grid: Only three percent of people living in rural villages use electricity, while 95 percent use firewood for cooking.
Access to electricity is almost zero for the two poorest quintiles of households even in urban areas.
Annual electric power consumption stands at less than 90 kilowatt-hours per capita, just enough to power one light bulb per person for three hours every day.
Over the past decade, Tanzania has increased access to electricity at a rate of less than one percentage point per year. At this rate, it would take well into the 22nd century to achieve universal electrification.
When managers of firms are asked directly about the most serious problems they face in conducting business, electricity comes out as their number one concern. Almost 75 percent of Tanzanian enterprises consider routine load shedding and power outages as the most serious constraint to doing business, while another 15 percent mention it as a significant problem.

Of course, there are a number of reasons why progress in improving access to electricity has been slow. Expanding the electric grid to remote rural areas requires significant upfront capital investments and public subsidies, which often conflict with funding to other well-needed public services and investments, such as education, health and road infrastructure. An increase in power access also requires substantial investments along the production chain and in the transmission to firms and households. Technical choices are not always obvious since technologies and opportunities evolve over time, such as the recent discovery of new on-shore and off-shore gas reserves. Policymakers have to make a series of strategic decisions within and between sectors, which naturally involve trade-offs and in many cases uncertain economic benefits. And finally, governance also plays an important role in this sector, where less than perfect public utilities often operate as monopolies.

http://blogs.worldbank.org/africacan/only-14-of-tanzanians-have-electricity-what-can-be-done

I certainly don't expect the world bank to do anything to fix this situation but you sit here and argue facts so here are the facts.

If only 14% of Zambians have access to electricity how does that constitute a NATIONAL grid? Do you know what a national grid means?

It means a grid covering the entire nation and most of the population. So by ANY definition there is no "national grid" in Zambia or most of Africa for that matter. MOST AFRICANS do not have access to electricity because there is no true national grid. The only grid that exists is to supply power to the major industries, primarily mines and farms, which are primarily NOT owned by blacks.

The grid used by the Zambian government to supply electricity to its people is the national grid.

There is no requirement that it must traverse the entire nation before it is called a national grid.

That is your white boi twist, you pale dog! [Razz]

Earlier you declared that only whites and their companies had electricity in Zambia.

Now you have been reduced to hot airs about the percentage of rural Black Zambians with access to the National Grid.

Pink Dog, India, a major industrial power has serious problems with connecting its rural population.

Close to 87% of India's rural population have no power, does that mean India is now colonized and enslaved by white people?

Same situation in Brazil, China, and many parts of Eastern Europe.

Those are called Developing Countries. Nothing mysterious in that. Developing countries will develop!

Your other issue was that we Africans were fools to deal with men like Guy Scott, a white man raised up in Zambia.

India is being ruled by an Italian woman today, Sonia Ghandi, are they fools?

And how black Zambians were all slaves, had no ..to none existent white Zambians.

MUURISH electrical lessons about Zambia:

Projects in Development

As a result of such concerted State efforts, he said, several companies were now active in the hydropower subsector, with various private-sector led projects at various stages of development.

These included the 105 MW Lunsemfa Hydro Power Company project, the 247 MW Lunzua Power Authority project, the 40 MW CEC project and the 750 MW Kafue Gorge Lower hydropower plant development.

All hydropower operations currently under development were to come on-stream by 2018.

Hibajene, however, conceded that some negative investor sentiment had emerged following the implementation of the legislation, in May last, which ordered that all transactions with foreign companies be prepared using the local currency, the Zambian kwacha.

The majority of the existing private and public sector agreements had been signed using the dollar as reference.

Negotiations were currently under way between government and industry to revisit the contentious legislation, which Hibajene said had resulted in project delays and investor reticence.

“We are hopeful that there will be a general exemption for all infrastructure projects, and we think that the Minister of Finance is beginning to see our point,” he concluded.

For many Chinese entrepreneurs, Africa is seen as a continent of opportunity. Now even small businessmen are arriving in force - and some local traders in Zambia just cannot compete.

If you want to get an idea of how China is reshaping the world economy just try to buy a chicken in the Zambian capital, Lusaka.

The city's main market is hot, humid and very, very busy.

As you push your way through the crowds, the hawkers and traders will shout and cajole, offering you almost every product imaginable.

You will probably not see a single non-African there. Until, that is, you get to where the chickens are sold.

Here you will see a row of trucks piled high with cages, each packed with plump white chickens all fussing and squawking.

The African shoppers will be weighing the birds in their hands and looking their prospective purchases in the eye.

In the background you might spot the owners of the trucks - Chinese men and women holding wads of money and making sure things go smoothly.

These people are chicken farmers.

It cannot be disputed that Zimbabwe was once a glorious country under the leadership of President Robert Mugabe. The country was among the giants of development in the world. It has also been a vehicle for development in many developing countries such as South Africa, China, India and developed countries such as Britain, the US, Canada to mention just a few, through the country.s mineral and human resources.
Today, Zambia is considered an agricultural country with agricultural products being exported to many parts of the African continent if not the whole world. Yet a decade or so ago Zambia was a struggling importer of agricultural products. Zambia and many other countries relied heavily on Zimbabwe for food and other materials. Zimbabwe unwittingly promoted Zambia to the position of agricultural products exporter when our Zimbabwean white farmers were booted out of the country.

Uganda under Idi Amin expelled all the Asians out of the country. It goes without saying that countries near and around Uganda benefited from the skills of Asians. Like Uganda, Zimbabwe has been struggling for the past decade to feed its ever growing population.

Why should we struggle to feed ourselves when we are a super agricultural country?

Our leaders are too proud to admit failure in their policies towards our commercial farmers. It is true that the indigenous people needed land but did we solve that problem by commercial farm invasions? Many Zimbabweans could have been settled on these farms if the government had done the exercise correctly. However this was not done.

I am not saying that white farmers are better than our black farmers but they were better established and had worked our virgin land into productive farms. Zimbabwean black farmers would have learnt a lot if the white farmers were asked to help them. No one is disputing our need for land distribution but expelling commercial farmers the way we did was like throwing away the baby together with the bath water.

Commercial farmers may not be as vindictive as many people fear. With a genuine accord and a promise of no hindrance, commercial farmers are willing to forgive and begin to develop Zimbabwe to its past glory.

canning the trampled patch of farmland where wheat should be growing. "Wildlife are a big headache here," he says, kneeling down and running his fingers over the crops crushed by the African cousin of our own red deer.

"Down on another farm of ours, we have elephants breaking the electric fence. It's on an old elephant trail, so of course they don't know, but they broke half a kilometre recently. Then the buffaloes came in, about 50, so we had to call the wildlife service because it.s illegal to shoot them."

To the average Irish farmer, it might sound like an unusual complaint, but then Grogan (48) doesnt run your average Irish farm. His 200 million a year company Zambeef owns 50,000 hectares of land across Zambia, slaughtering 60,000 cattle and 3.5 million chickens a year, making it one of Africa.s largest agri-food businesses.

http://www.meattradenewsdaily.co.uk/news/011010/zambia___irish_beef_baron_francis_grogan.aspx

And that is just Agriculture. Maize, beef and tobacco are some of the largest crops and the biggest exporters/producers of these crops are guess who? NON African Zambians.

And as for copper, I already posted a video showing who runs that.

And this is where the electricity goes: the mines and the farms followed by the cities. And I already posted images of the white schools and towns in Zambia where whites live a suburban American lifestyle with electricity of course. But you will deny that as usual.

Keep in mind that Zambia was once part of Rhodesia and therefore the white farmers moving back and forth is nothing new. They have been doing it since the colony was set up. The only folks limited by the borders are the Africans themselves.

quote:

Ten years ago, James and Rita Chance were forced off their thriving tobacco, maize and cattle farm in Zimbabwe. Since then, they have made a success of tobacco farming in Zambia, which they now regard as their home. Heather Dugmore reports.

It.s 5am on what promises to be a hot, humid day on James and Rita Chance's 1.840ha tobacco farm, 25km from the town of Choma in southern Zambia. James discusses the day.s work with his Zambian farm manager, Claude Bukoka, and together they give instructions to the workers. These are mostly men and women who live on their own small-scale or subsistence farms on the neighbouring property, which is owned by the local chief. James employs between 80 and 120 staff, depending on the season.

The vision unfolding across the Mkushi plain in Zambia is at odds with the doleful imagery of modern Africa to which we have become accustomed.

Three hours from the capital Lusaka the wheat crop glows under the tropical sun. A combine harvester moves methodically across one portion of a vast field. Nearby a giant sprinkler irrigates the soya bean crop.

One might as easily be standing on the plains of the American Mid-West or among the grain fields of the Ukraine.

These are fields of plenty, a productive Africa that challenges the narrative of conflict and hunger that so dominates our idea of the continent.

"If we just increased the yields to 80% of world averages, Africa would become a net exporter of food. We believe that Africa can feed itself and the rest of the world too," Dabney Tonelli of Chayton Africa, the British-owned company that manages the 25,000 acre farm at Mkushi, says.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/programmes/newsnight/9623031.stm

This last story brings it all together: World Bank, Zimbabwean white farmers (settlers), American technology and of course black slaves. Sure looks like a hand full of white folks enslaving Africans to me. As a MATTER OF FACT the history of colonization in Africa was the story of a hand full of white folks enslaving a whole continent of blacks. Who the heck do you think you are kidding? I mean whites were ALWAYS a minority in their African colonies. For example, South Africa.

Africans been in Africa how many thousands of years? And you mean to tell me white folks, Asians and other foreigners get "LAND RIGHTS" before the Africans? That is the main reason Africans are poor and it is because THEIR TRAITOROUS @SS governments work for foreigners. They "hold the land" what the hell is that? You mean to tell me you don't give DEED AND TITLE to the NATIVES of the land? Why not? It is theirs isn't it? And this is neo-colonialism at its best. No land rights for the population therefore they cannot get loans, cannot have large commercial farms and cannot have a REAL ECONOMY because nobody recognizes them as being part of the economy except as peasant workers.

Dog you stinky liar, Mkushi is not the CENTER of Zambia's agriculture. Post a citation besides your weak lies proving your claims.

Also, being the liar you are, when you cut and pasted the article about Mkushi from the BBC worldnews, you conveniently edited this part.

I hereby reproduce it for all well wishers of Africa:

 -

quote:
Hired Zimbabwean expertise

White farmers who were driven off their land in Zimbabwe have been hired to run the Chayton operation, bringing with them the intensive farming skills they have honed over decades.

The farm manager at Mkushi, Stuart Kearns, became a full-time farmer as a teenager after his father was killed in the Bush War in what was then Rhodesia. Despite his experiences in Zimbabwe he is optimistic about the future of farming in Zambia:

"There is huge potential here and I think the thing with Africa is that you have to keep trying again and again. That is something you learn when you grow up here."

Chayton promises to "create jobs, introduce sustainable farming methods… provide support and training to small-scale farmers".

Zambia's vice-president Dr Guy Scott voiced concern about job losses

But there are considerable obstacles - poor infrastructure and bureaucracy stand in the way of Zambia becoming a major exporter of food to the continent. At the moment Chayton is only producing for the local market.

And in an interview with Newsnight, the country's new vice-president, Dr Guy Scott, a farmer himself, was sceptical of some of the claims made by the company:

"I am very sceptical because I've been around a lot and I know what proposals look like and what justifications look like in the investment game and I would say that 90% of what is promised turns out not to be true… not necessarily because of any venality or any deliberate fraud.

"I mean people hope for the best. They hope it is going to work. And the government hopes it is going to work. And we all get each others hopes up. And then you find 'oh dear we didn't actually succeed in having the social impact or economic impact we'd hoped for'."

Displacement fears

Dr Scott worries about the social impact of job losses due to more intensive farming where machines take the place of people:

Local small-scale farmers complain about problems securing capital

"I think the main problem is that the population for Zambia is that the population is about four times too big for the economy. And I think that is the danger with large scale intensive farming; it tends to be capital intensive, it tends not to create jobs and at the same time tends to displace people who are unemployed from their fallback position which is to be subsistence farmers."

Chayton acknowledge that their modernised farming methods have already led to job losses, but insist that as the business grows it will create employment in spin-off businesses:

"Yes, over time some of the less skilled work goes as a result of mechanisation, but we are building a large scale business so over time we are creating other jobs," Ms Tonelli says.

"What we are able to do is train people to do highly skilled jobs which they can continue to use in a career in agriculture of transfer to other sectors as well."

Dog, Zambia has a liberal economy and land can be leased for agriculture by any person of means for between 14 years and 90 years.

This can be renewed.

Dog Zambia is different from Zimbabwe. There were no major land seizures in Zambia by albinos.

By 1964 albinos all fled Zambia following the liberation.

Zambia was a frontline state during the struggles to free Zimbabwe and South Africa.

Zambia could be low income, it could be poorly managed, but it is a revolutionary African state, where there is virtually no existent albino political class.

And of course in a cosmopolitan Zambia, like a cosmopolitan America, different people are welcome to contribute economically.

Diversity is strenght.

You for example live on dole in England. Not everyone has to be successful, so people like you are permitted to live on social assistance. Diversity at work... [Razz]

Update to this situation in South Africa:

Interview with Eugene Kasrils, leader of the ANC's armed wing before the end of apartheid and intelligence service after.
quote:

It was a dire error on my part to focus on my own responsibilities and leave the economic issues to the ANC's experts. However, at the time, most of us never quite knew what was happening with the top-level economic discussions. As s Sampie Terreblanche has revealed in his critique, Lost in Transformation, by late 1993 big business strategies – hatched in 1991 at the mining mogul Harry Oppenheimer's Johannesburg residence – were crystallizing in secret late-night discussions at the Development Bank of South Africa. Present were South Africa's mineral and energy leaders, the bosses of US and British companies with a presence in South Africa – and young ANC economists schooled in western economics. They were reporting to Mandela, and were either outwitted or frightened into submission by hints of the dire consequences for South Africa should an ANC government prevail with what were considered ruinous economic policies.

All means to eradicate poverty, which was Mandela's and the ANC's sworn promise to the "poorest of the poor," were lost in the process. Nationalisation of the mines and heights of the economy as envisaged by the Freedom charter was abandoned. The ANC accepted responsibility for a vast apartheid-era debt, which should have been cancelled. A wealth tax on the super-rich to fund developmental projects was set aside, and domestic and international corporations, enriched by apartheid, were excused from any financial reparations. Extremely tight budgetary obligations were instituted that would tie the hands of any future governments; obligations to implement a free-trade policy and abolish all forms of tariff protection in keeping with neo-liberal free trade fundamentals were accepted. Big corporations were allowed to shift their main listings abroad. In Terreblanche's opinion, these ANC concessions constituted "treacherous decisions that [will] haunt South Africa for generations to come."

An ANC-Communist party leadership eager to assume political office (myself no less than others) readily accepted this devil's pact, only to be damned in the process. It has bequeathed an economy so tied in to the neoliberal global formula and market fundamentalism that there is very little room to alleviate the plight of most of our people.

Little wonder that their patience is running out; that their anguished protests increase as they wrestle with deteriorating conditions of life; that those in power have no solutions. The scraps are left go to the emergent black elite; corruption has taken root as the greedy and ambitious fight like dogs over a bone.

In South Africa in 2008 the poorest 50% received only 7.8% of total income. While 83% of white South Africans were among the top 20% of income receivers in 2008, only 11% of our black population were. These statistics conceal unmitigated human suffering. Little wonder that the country has seen such an enormous rise in civil protest.

A descent into darkness must be curtailed. I do not believe the ANC alliance is beyond hope. There are countless good people in the ranks. But a revitalization and renewal from top to bottom is urgently required. The ANC's soul needs to be restored; its traditional values and culture of service reinstated. The pact with the devil needs to be broken.

http://www.blackagendareport.com/content/how-ancs-faustian-pact-sold-out-south-africas-poorest

quote:

NEW YORK—What is it that makes a rebel? Why does one willingly step outside society to destroy a system of power, break the law and risk persecution and even death for an ideal? As the state calcifies into corporate totalitarianism, as prominent rebels such as Julian Assange, Bradley Manning and Edward Snowden are defamed by a bankrupt media and political class and hunted down as criminals, as change through the established mechanisms of reform becomes impossible, as systems of power invert morality to silence and imprison the just, we are going to have to ask hard questions about what we are willing to endure to make a better world. For if we do not rebel, if we do not actively defy corporate power, we will steadily be herded like captive animals into pens where we will be watched, controlled, abused, exploited and finally cast aside when our bodies and our minds are deemed superfluous by the corporate state. It is not enough to interpret the world. We must change it.

Rebels at the inception of struggle are vilified. They are few in number. They are ostracized by the wider society. They are left to brood in shadows where the organs of state security track and hunt them like prey. These rebels of history must become our tutors. To discuss the nature of rebellion, I recently met with Ronnie Kasrils, who was a leader of the armed wing of the African National Congress when the group was fighting South Africa's government and who from 2004 to 2008 was minister for intelligence services in the ANC government.

Kasrils, white, middle class and Jewish, turned his back on his race and his class to join the African National Congress as a 22-year-old in 1960. A year later he became a member of the South African Communist Party. He was a founding member, along with Nelson Mandela, of Umkhonto we Sizwe (MK), or Spear of the Nation, the armed wing of the ANC. He served as the commander of the Natal Regional Command and underwent military training in 1964 in Odessa, in the Soviet Union. As a leader in the MK, Kasrils carried out sabotage and bombings of state infrastructure and industrial sites. Although a 1983 MK guerrilla attack left 19 civilians dead and a 1986 raid killed three civilians and injured 73 others, Kasrils points out that overall only a small number of whites died in the struggle while tens of thousands of blacks were slaughtered by the apartheid state.

^^Malicious Dog

Here is the real situation:

Eugene Kasrils was not a part of the ANC armed struggle and certainly not the head of the Um Kontho Sizwe the ANC armed wing.

The head of Umkotho was Mr Zuma the present president of South Africa.

Dog not only are you malicious, but you are a liar!

Fiyah fi ya pink pale hypocritical and malicious ass!

quote:
Barack Obama has paid tribute to Nelson Mandela during his visit to South Africa.

Out of deference to the ailing anti-apartheid leader’s peace and comfort there will be no hospital visit, according to the White House. There will be a private meeting with members of the Mandela family, “to offer their thoughts and prayers at this difficult time,” the statement added.

After wide-ranging bilateral talks in Pretoria with his South African counterpart Jacob Zuma, the US president said the fate of the man he calls his “personal hero” was key in his thoughts.

“The struggle here, against apartheid, for freedom, Madiba’s moral courage, this country’s historic transition to a free and democratic nation, has been a personal inspiration to me, an inspiration to the world and continues to be,” said Obama.

During the weekend Obama is scheduled to visit Robben Island where Mandela passed 18 of the 27 years he spent in apartheid prisons.

Theman's name Is Ronnie Kasrils not Eugene and it is a Guardian UK article he wrote himself not an interview.

wikipedia:

Ronald Kasrils (commonly known as Ronnie Kasrils) (born 15 November 1938) is a South African politician. He was Minister for Intelligence Services from 27 April 2004 to 25 September 2008. He was a member of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the African National Congress (ANC) from 1987 to 2007 as well as a member of the Central Committee of the South African Communist Party (SACP) from December 1986 to 2007.

The Sharpeville massacre radicalised Kasrils against the Apartheid system and he joined the African National Congress (ANC) in 1960, becoming secretary of the Congress of Democrats in Natal in 1961, the same year he joined the South African Communist Party. In 1962, he received a five-year banning order prohibiting him from public speaking. He was a founding member of Umkhonto we Sizwe (MK) as member of Natal Regional Command during the same year. He became the commander of Natal Regional Command in 1963. He underwent military training in 1964 in Odessa, USSR and at the end of 1965 was sent to London to work for the movement there. During this time Kasrils worked with Yusuf Dadoo, Joe Slovo and Jack Hodgson and they formed a special committee (1966–76) to develop underground activities in South Africa from the United Kingdom. During this time he trained various people including Raymond Suttner, Jeremy Cronin, Ahmed Timol, Alex Moumbaris, Tim Jenkins and Dave and Sue Rabkin, with the aim of establishing underground propaganda units in South Africa. He served the ANC and was based in London, Luanda, Maputo, Swaziland, Botswana and Lusaka. Kasrils eventually became a member of MK's High Command and was appointed as Chief of MK Intelligence in 1983.

Kasrils also served on the ANC's Politico-Military Council from 1985 to 1989 and worked underground for the ANC in South Africa during Operation Vula from 1990 to 1991. He went on to head the ANC's campaign section from 1991 to 1994.

"Whatever the drawbacks and failures I am convinced that in years to come humanity will look back to Soviet achievements as a source of profound inspiration"

Do white people have a future in South Africa?

I went to a little town called Geluik -

Apartheid South Africa looked after white people and nobody else. Now some of its white communities face a level of deprivation, or of violence, which threatens their future in the country.

Everyone here, regardless of colour, tells you that white people are still riding high.

They run the economy. They have a disproportionate amount of influence in politics and the media. They still have the best houses and most of the best jobs.

All of this is true but it is not the only picture.

Look below the surface and you will find poverty and a sense of growing vulnerability.

The question I have come to South Africa to answer is whether white people genuinely have a future here.

The answer, as with so many similar existential questions, is "Yes - but…"
 -

It seems to me that only certain parts of the white community really have a genuine future here: the better-off, more adaptable parts.

Working-class white people, most of them Afrikaans-speakers, are going through an intense crisis. But you will not read about it in the newspapers or see it reported on television because their plight seems to be something arising out of South Africa's bad old past - a past which everyone, black and white, would like to forget.

According to one leading political activist, Mandla Nyaqela, this is the after-effect of the huge degree of selfishness and brutality which was shown towards the black population under apartheid.

"It is having its effect on whites today, even though they still own a share of South Africa's wealth which is entirely disproportionate," he said.

That may all be true. But the people who are suffering now are the weakest and most vulnerable members of the white community.

Ernst Roets, a leading Afrikaans campaigner from the AfriForum organisation, took me to a squatter camp outside the country's capital, Pretoria. A white squatter camp.

It has been set up on the property of a sympathetic white farmer and is called, optimistically, Sonskyn Hoekie - Sunshine Corner.

There are broken-down cars and bits of discarded furniture everywhere. Beyond the wooden shacks lie ditches and pools of dirty, stagnant water where mosquitoes breed. Two basic toilets serve the whole camp.

According to Roets there are 80 white squatter camps - many of them bigger than this - in the Pretoria area alone. Across South Africa as a whole he believes there could be as many as 400,000 poor whites in conditions like these.

Sonskyn Hoekie has no water and no electricity. The inhabitants live on two hand-out meals of maize porridge a day, which is provided by local volunteers. There is no social security for them, no lifeline - any more than there was for non-whites when apartheid ruled.

"I don't want to live in a place like this," said Frans de Jaeger, a former bricklayer, who with his beard and wrinkled face looks like one of the old Voortrekkers.

"But I can't get out."

His wife died suddenly of cancer a few years ago and it sent him into a downward spiral of binge drinking and destitution.

Semi-skilled white people have little chance of getting a job when so many black South Africans are unemployed.

There is another group of white Afrikaners, far higher up the social scale, who are deeply threatened - in this case, literally. Virtually every week the press here report the murders of white farmers, though you will not hear much about it in the media outside South Africa.

In South Africa you are twice as likely to be murdered if you are a white farmer than if you are a police officer - and the police here have a particularly dangerous life. The killings of farmers are often particularly brutal.

Ernst Roets's organisation has published the names of more than 2,000 people who have died over the last two decades. The government has so far been unwilling to make solving and preventing these murders a priority.
I went to a little town called Geluik - happiness. A few weeks ago gunmen burst into the farm shop there and opened fire, killing one farmer outright and injuring one of his sons and a shopworker.

They stole next to nothing. It seemed to be a deliberate, targeted killing. Soon afterwards the son died of his injuries.

Belinda van Nord, the daughter and sister of the men who died, told me how dangerous the lives of white people in the countryside have become. The police, she said, had seemed to show little interest in this case.

In the little graveyard where her father and brother are buried there are two other graves of farmers murdered recently. The wonderful landscape which surrounds it has become a killing ground.

There used to be 60,000 white farmers in South Africa. In 20 years that number has halved.

In the old days, the apartheid system looked after whites and did very little for anyone else. Nowadays white people here are on their own.

Those who fit in and succeed will certainly have a future. As for the rest, there are no guarantees whatsoever.

How the ANC's Faustian pact sold out South Africa's poorest
In the early 1990s, we in the leadership of the ANC made a serious error. Our people still paying the price

 -
Lonmin mineworkers pay their respects to Mpuzeni Ngxande, one of the 34 miners killed by police on 16 August near the Marikana mine. 'The Sharpeville massacre in 1960 prompted me to join the ANC. I found Marikana even more distressing: a democratic South Africa was meant to end such barbarity.'

South Africa's young people today are known as the Born Free generation. They enjoy the dignity of being born into a democratic society with the right to vote and choose who will govern. But modern South Africa is not a perfect society. Full equality – social and economic – does not exist, and control of the country's wealth remains in the hands of a few, so new challenges and frustrations arise. Veterans of the anti-apartheid struggle like myself are frequently asked whether, in the light of such disappointment, the sacrifice was worth it. While my answer is yes, I must confess to grave misgivings: I believe we should be doing far better.

There have been impressive achievements since the attainment of freedom in 1994: in building houses, crèches, schools, roads and infrastructure; the provision of water and electricity to millions; free education and healthcare; increases in pensions and social grants; financial and banking stability; and slow but steady economic growth (until the 2008 crisis at any rate). These gains, however, have been offset by a breakdown in service delivery, resulting in violent protests by poor and marginalised communities; gross inadequacies and inequities in the education and health sectors; a ferocious rise in unemployment; endemic police brutality and torture; unseemly power struggles within the ruling party that have grown far worse since the ousting of Mbeki in 2008; an alarming tendency to secrecy and authoritarianism in government; the meddling with the judiciary; and threats to the media and freedom of expression. Even Nelson Mandela's privacy and dignity are violated for the sake of a cheap photo opportunity by the ANC's top echelon.

Most shameful and shocking of all, the events of Bloody Thursday – 16 August 2012 – when police massacred 34 striking miners at Marikana mine, owned by the London-based Lonmin company. The Sharpeville massacre in 1960 prompted me to join the ANC. I found Marikana even more distressing: a democratic South Africa was meant to bring an end to such barbarity. And yet the president and his ministers, locked into a culture of cover-up. Incredibly, the South African Communist party, my party of over 50 years, did not condemn the police either.

South Africa's liberation struggle reached a high point but not its zenith when we overcame apartheid rule. Back then, our hopes were high for our country given its modern industrial economy, strategic mineral resources (not only gold and diamonds), and a working class and organised trade union movement with a rich tradition of struggle. But that optimism overlooked the tenacity of the international capitalist system. From 1991 to 1996 the battle for the ANC's soul got under way, and was eventually lost to corporate power: we were entrapped by the neoliberal economy – or, as some today cry out, we "sold our people down the river".

What I call our Faustian moment came when we took an IMF loan on the eve of our first democratic election. That loan, with strings attached that precluded a radical economic agenda, was considered a necessary evil, as were concessions to keep negotiations on track and take delivery of the promised land for our people. Doubt had come to reign supreme: we believed, wrongly, there was no other option; that we had to be cautious, since by 1991 our once powerful ally, the Soviet union, bankrupted by the arms race, had collapsed. Inexcusably, we had lost faith in the ability of our own revolutionary masses to overcome all obstacles. Whatever the threats to isolate a radicalising South Africa, the world could not have done without our vast reserves of minerals. To lose our nerve was not necessary or inevitable. The ANC leadership needed to remain determined, united and free of corruption – and, above all, to hold on to its revolutionary will. Instead, we chickened out. The ANC leadership needed to remain true to its commitment of serving the people. This would have given it the hegemony it required not only over the entrenched capitalist class but over emergent elitists, many of whom would seek wealth through black economic empowerment, corrupt practices and selling political influence.

To break apartheid rule through negotiation, rather than a bloody civil war, seemed then an option too good to be ignored. However, at that time, the balance of power was with the ANC, and conditions were favourable for more radical change at the negotiating table than we ultimately accepted. It is by no means certain that the old order, apart from isolated rightist extremists, had the will or capability to resort to the bloody repression envisaged by Mandela's leadership. If we had held our nerve, we could have pressed forward without making the concessions we did.

It was a dire error on my part to focus on my own responsibilities and leave the economic issues to the ANC's experts. However, at the time, most of us never quite knew what was happening with the top-level economic discussions. As s Sampie Terreblanche has revealed in his critique, Lost in Transformation, by late 1993 big business strategies – hatched in 1991 at the mining mogul Harry Oppenheimer's Johannesburg residence – were crystallising in secret late-night discussions at the Development Bank of South Africa. A descent into darkness must be curtailed. I do not believe the ANC alliance is beyond hope. There are countless good people in the ranks. But a revitalisation and renewal from top to bottom is urgently required. The ANC's soul needs to be restored; its traditional values and culture of service reinstated. The pact with the devil needs to be broken.

At present the impoverished majority do not see any hope other than the ruling party, although the ANC's ability to hold those allegiances is deteriorating. The effective parliamentary opposition reflects big business interests of various stripes, and while a strong parliamentary opposition is vital to keep the ANC on its toes, most voters want socialist policies, not measures inclined to serve big business interests, more privatisation and neoliberal economics.

This does not mean it is only up to the ANC, SACP and Cosatu to rescue the country from crises. There are countless patriots and comrades in existing and emerging organised formations who are vital to the process. Then there are the legal avenues and institutions such as the public protector's office and human rights commission that – including the ultimate appeal to the constitutional court – can test, expose and challenge injustice and the infringement of rights. The strategies and tactics of the grassroots – trade unions, civic and community organisations, women's and youth groups – signpost the way ahead with their non-violent and dignified but militant action.

The space and freedom to express one's views, won through decades of struggle, are available and need to be developed. We look to the Born Frees as the future torchbearers.
