John White (c. 1540 – c. 1593) was an English artist and early pioneer of English efforts to settle North America. He was among those who sailed with Richard Grenville to the shore of present-day North Carolina in 1585, acting as artist and mapmaker to the expedition. During his time at Roanoke Island he made a number of watercolor sketches of the surrounding landscape and the native Algonkin peoples. These works are significant as they are the most informative illustrations of a Native American society of the Eastern seaboard

These works are significant as they are the most informative illustrations of a Native American society of the Eastern seaboard, and predate the first body of "discovery voyage art" created in the late 18th century by the artists who sailed with Captain James Cook. They represent the sole-surviving visual record of the native inhabitants of America encountered by England's first settlers.

By the 17th Century the original Arawak had mainly been killed off. Any photographs of "Arawak", are of Mongoloid Indians who had mated with the Black Native Americans.

Columbus did not meet Mongoloid Indians. The Arawak were predominately mainland. By the time the British had arrived some mongoloid Indians had settled on some of the West Indian Islands. Interestingly, the Taino spoke a Mande language.

Arawak in Surinam
Those people are not Arawaka. There is a large Surinamese community in Holland. And I have vistited Surinam a few times. The runaway slaves were called Morons (Moroon). Those who stayed in the city became Creoles. But a lot of Creoles have Arawake admixture. And to a lesser degree do the Morons.

These people could have been Arawak. It was not uncommon for Native Americans to dress in Western garments.

Teedyuscung believed that if he dressed like whites and became Christian, they would respect him better, since he illustrated elements of their culture. He even lived at a Mission for a time. Later he, along with other Black and Mongoloid Indians moved into the Wyoming Valley. But converting to Christianity did not save him from white racism.
Whites led by the Penn family and their mongoloid Iroquois allies later murdered Teedyuscung, and took their land.
Many of the Black Native Americans moved into the Ohio Valley, and even Illinois. Indian lands and governments were denied recognition by the government , and the Black Native Americans were declared "free colored", to make sure the Black Native Americans would have no "legal" right to their own lands.
Today the Lenape remain a mixed Indian nation.

Mike would call this a black woman due to the features and what is probably a brown skin tone
