AFRICAN CULTURAL AND RITUAL DANCES Most Africans today,especially niger-congo and nilotic speakers have preserved most of their cultural traditions intact for over 3000yrs ever since they mass migrated from north Africa from their times at the Nile valley Civilizations of Ancient Egypt,Libya and kush up to now.One of these traditions is the dance. African dance utilizes the concept of polyrhythm as well as total body articulation.Dances teach social patterns and values and help people work, mature, praise or criticize members of the community while celebrating festivals and funerals, competing, reciting history, proverbs and poetry; and to encounter gods. African dances are largely participatory, with spectators being part of the performance. With the exception of some spiritual, religious or initiation dances, there are traditionally no barriers between dancers and onlookers. Even ritual dances often have a time when spectators participate. Traditional dance in Africa occurs collectively, expressing the life of the community more than that of individuals or couples.

Nice post, however it should read the African origin of Kemetian cultural dances as more than likely it came from inner Africa and disperse to Kemet like it's original population.

Why would Egyptian dance be anymore refine than other dance in Africa at that era. You take a modern dance company and compare it with ritual dances that appeared wild, fact is ritural dances appeared wild in places like Morroco and Egypt of today no different than their ancestors. You are acting like you don't understand ****.Bantu and south nilotic people today live in the so-called sub-sahara but in ancient times,they lived in North Africa, Libya and Egypt ..It is their cultures and traditions portrayed in Saharan rock paintings and ancient Egypt wall paintings.It is their cultures which were described explicitly by Herodotus.The culture of modern North Africans is not in any way similar to that of ancient North Africans.. Except for some Indigenous groups like Tuaregs,Toubou and Siwa..Even the beja and Rashidun are most likely migrants from Arabia..So Ancient Egyptian dance was the dance of the ancestors of modern so-called sub-saharan people.

No it's completely modern just like Alvin Ailey , and that's the point one can find aspects of tradition in such dances,which is meant for pure entertainment than ritual.
