Arabs And Tuaregs Join Forces Against Africans In Southern Libya

AFRICANGLOBE – At least 40 people have been killed in a week of ethnic clashes in southern Libya between rival gunmen from the African Toubou and Tuareg minorities, a local official said.

The latest fighting centred on the oasis city of Sabha, the largest in the Libyan Sahara, the official said.

Hundreds of families have been displaced, he added.

There have been repeated deadly clashes between the two ethnic groups since February.

The African Toubou, who mainly live in the southeast straddling the border with neighbouring Chad, were heavily discriminated against under dictator Muammar Gaddafi and fought in the 2011 uprising that overthrew him.

The Tuareg, who mainly live in the southwest straddling the borders with Algeria and Niger, largely backed the Gaddafi regime.
Black Libyans rounded up and held by Arab militias

The chaos that has followed the uprising has seen mounting competition for scant resources in the desert south, with Tuareg, Toubou and Arabs all setting up rival militia.

Deadly fighting with Arabs in Sabha in 2012 prompted Toubou claims of ethnic cleansing.

Tensions have worsened since the establishment of rival governments in the capital Tripoli and the eastern town of Tobruk last year.

The Tripoli authorities have armed the Tuareg while the Toubou have backed the internationally recognised government in the east.

The Tobruk government issued a statement on Tuesday appealing to the warring sides sides to “stop fighting and resolve their differences through dialogue”

LOL the power of religion.

Now these arab immigrants got local "arabized" people so confused, they'll fight each other.

It's a slave - massa condition. No different.

Or a Hutu - Tutsi condition.

The berbers converted to the religion of the Arabs and under their command from Damacus Syria, invaded Spain.
Later the Almoravids, Moorish religious fantatics. took over
While in Spain these Muslims traded slaves

I'm not so sure if that's the whole "truth".

The Iberia Peninsula was already populated, and it wasn't by modern day Spanjards. We have reviewed this before on ES.

So judging from this article, the Tubou are africans but the arabs and tuaregs aren't? Man, this is a headline grabber as newspapers are wont to do to get readers. These tuareg from southern libya actually tend to be very dark. People fight over scarce resources, duhhh! This is more of ethnic warfare than racial warfare as the article wants to imply. The article itself mentions the Tubou are aligned with the eastern faction of the libyan govt who are also arabs. So its more complex than arabs and tuaregs in racial warfare against africans. Smh.

The Toubou are dark skinned Africans
Some of the Tuareg look just like them, other look like African mixed with Arabs. Their maternal DNA shows this

The Tuareg are being used by the Arab government against the Toubou

You are right the article tries to word it with an implication as if the Tuareg weren't African
Look at the source of the article, I couldn't find out what country they are based in

They are coming from what they see as a very "black" perspective.
Their interpretation of this is that unlike the Toubou the Tuaregs are Arab sympathizers and themselves Arab-Africans

That could be divisive, maybe I should have picked a different article for this topic

Why are you always talking about people you don't know shyt about?

Some Tubu are light caramel complected, as some Tuareg.

Some Tuareg are of Chocolate complexion. Depending on the region and subset.

Are the Toubou mentioned in this story at all related to the ancient Tebu who were believed to have had close ties to the ancient Egyptians?

It looks like history replaying itself again. The Moors, Tuaregs and English were united to destroyed the Songhai Empire. The Arabs, Berbers and Europeans were united during the 500 years of the African Slave Trade. Today Arabs and Tuaregs are uniting to destroyed the Black Toubou or Garamantes who lived in Central Libya since prehistory. The Black Garamantes had an Empire in Central Libya.

The weakness of Black African is they will not unite to fight a foreign enemy or an enemy of different race. The African Kingdoms didn't united to fight the Europeans and Arabs during the African Slave Trade. African countries today are not united against Western Imperialism. Black people in the USA, Carribean and Latin America are not United to defend their interest. White people and White countries are united to defend their interests against the other races of the world.

In fact Gaddafi warned for this divide amongst Africans. The same "could happen" over again. I believe it's also written in his book.
