Hi there, my girlfriend and I are both in our early 20's and have booked a 2 week stay at the Marriot Beach resort in early November 04.

We both wanted to go somewhere slightly different from Spain, Canaries etc and I think we have got it right, but, I have read more and more reviews (after booking the holiday) about how quiet the place is, no shops, no bars, no.......nothing? Apparently the nightly entertainment is somewhat ropey, although we didn't want to stay in a Butlins camp, we also didn't want to be asleep by 10 every night!
Like most people, we are going for the weather, beaches, diving and mostly to relax, it would however be nice to be able to go out for a meal followed by a few cheeky drinks somewhere other than our hotel ;-)

Can anyone, shed any light on what there is to do for entertainment in and around Taba.

We really fancied doing some bartering in the bazaars also, take back some souveniors etc.

Thanks in Advance

Richard

Hi richard,

We went last year to the marriott - it will be a very popular destination...in a few years. At the moment theres not a lot to do and there are only 3 or 4 hotels grouped together. There is a casino at one of the hotelsand a diving school a short distance away - but its all very new and unestablished at the moment. let me know if anything else you want to know.

Rob

Thanks for that Rob,

It seems that you are the only person on these forums that have been to Taba!!

Maybe in the last year other ameneties have been built.

A few more questions -

1)How far is the beach from the Marriott?
2)Is it a sandy beach?
3)Does it get busy?
4)Is it safe to walk into the sea straight off the beach?
5)How far is the nearest town?
6)Are we able to go and have drinks in the other hotels (aparently the Hilton has a nightclub?)

That is enough to be going on with I am sure.

Much appreciated Rob

Richard

Hi,

I went to the Marriot at Taba Heights a couple of years ago with my boyfriend (we were a similar age to yourself. Its lovely, but i might have got bored after a week. Basically you can't get a taxi annywhere because there aren't any. The nearest place that i saw was the airport (1 hour away) at which there were no shops or cafes etc (take food with you when you go there!), there were excursions available (starting from about £80 per excursion) and cairo is a 5 hour drive away - but well worth going to. You can go to the other hotels for drinks (there were 3 hotels when i went there) but there is not much else. The entertainment is not great in the hotel. The beach is right next to the hotel which is good, it is a pebley beach and you wouldn't want to sit on it really, but the swimming pools are gorgeous in the hotel area. I did not go diving but it is meant to be great, there is a free bus to take you to the diving school. If you want to be able to go out and socialise then it is not the holiday for you, but if you want to spend time with your girlfriend and go diving then its a great holiday - the cairo excursion is definately worth doing (but is about £130 to do and is a very early start - 4am and late finish - 12pm) but remember that the excursions mount up as they are quite expensive to do. There were no facilities to rent a car and travel round on your own when i went there - but this might have changed.
Have a great time if you do go,
Hope this is helpful

Sensible advice Bulldog. I would not worry about the rest of the Sinai Peninsular but Taba is just too close to the Israli border to take unnecessary risks.
