I am trying again to see if anyone has any up to date information on the Sonesta beach in Sharm, we are going there for to weeks in May. Will the weather be hot, and what currency is required as i am told via my TA that Egyptian pounds are no longer accepted, only $..........
What is a TA? (travel agent?) What explanation did your TA have for Egyptian Pounds NOT being accepted in Egypt? Good grief! Very definately Egyptian Pounds are accepted.
Oh, I bet I know what the guy was talking about..... it's for your hotel bill ONLY. there was a time when the government let the hotels insist on US dollars, Euros or Sterling to pay your hotel bills in. That was when the black market was big. Since most people pay their hotel bills with credit cards it didn't matter too much. You might check specifically with your hotel about payment terms IF you are planning to pay cash for your hotel. You may have already paid for it with your excursion package, thereby making it a moot point anyway. In all other areas (restaurants, excursions, sovenier shops, bars, etc.) Egyptian Pounds are very happily accepted, but so would USdollars or any other hard currency....but you'll probably get your change back in EGP, so you'll end up with EGP anyway.

Thanks in advance.
Try the following: www.sonesta.com Egypt Sonesta Beach Resort & Casino Sharm El Sheikh Resort Features, Photo Gallery etc.
It looks great and is very central located.
If you have any concerns upon arrival - but Sonesta has a very good reputation - go back to your travel agent in Sharm El Sheikh and change hotels.
Enjoy your stay!

Thanks very much, i certainly wouldnt change hotels because its basically where we want to be for our first visit to sharm.
Debbie - yes it was the hotels that said they wouldnt take Egyptian Pds, i think it was mainly because they were losing out and could get more on the $ exchange and it is true you can use credit cards for bills, i usually do anyway. Do you still do one to one tours? i know you did them in Cairon but do you go as far afield Debbie as Sharm?
I knew about the link thanks, but i cannot understand why a big chain of hotel doesnt keep its website up to scratch. I asked a question on thrie forum months ago and it was never answered, and looking at it, questions are on there from last May?
I thought it would be interesting to do the virtual tour but it doesnt work, and yet the Sonesta Clubs virtual hotel tour does. I have emailed the hotel again, but it seems they should look into this.
