what gifts am i allowed to take into sharm? a local friend wants a dvd player, can i bring him one, as there are very inexpensive in uk?

you can bring as much goods as you want .. just expect to pay some taxes

If you are coming through as an ordinary tourists it is unlikely the customs officer will question you.

If he does then the amount of tax due is comletely arbitary.

There will be no problem...I have taken in all sorts of things like this to Sharm and they are not interested. DVDs are so small now just carry it through in your hand luggage. I have tried to declare my lap top with them in the past and they are just not interested...So don't worry.
