Can I suggest that you ask your doctor or school of tropical medicine in your country. Advice regarding medication should cme from a medical source. As they say on the Lonely Planet website our medical knowledge comes from watching reruns of Dr Kildare.
AFAIK the Fayoum is the only risk area in Egypt but my information might be incorrect and should not be relied on

Good answer Akshar....of course we can't be held responsible for our medical advice given on this board, and you do need to consult your doctor to verify anything you hear, but the general answer to your question would be NO. Any mosquitos we do have here are generally breeding much closer to the Nile than Taba so the chance of your getting malaria up there is pretty slim, but do ask your doctor what the latest reports do say.

There isnt a malarial problem in Egypt as the type of mosquitoes here do not carry the disease, whether on the nile or elsewhere in Egypt, so your question is not relevant. Charlie the saint.
