I am returning to Luxor early this May for another week and am curious about renting an apartment centrally in Luxor rather than having a hotel. Can anyone help me as to how I can go about finding one as there appears to be little available on the Internet?
Many thanks

Thanks for your responses but I am still struggling to find anything on the East Bank of Luxor (preferably central). If anyone knows of anything this side please let me know.

On another matter if we were to have an apartment on the West Bank can anyone tell me at what time the ferries stop crossing at night as I don't want to get stranded on the wrong side of the Nile!! Thanks.

Hello
We have stayed in Luxor 5 times now and the last time we stayed at the http://www.villa-lostris.com/. We liked it very much although not in centre of Luxor - it's towards the Sheraton hotel.
BUT it is restful and you look out and watch the world go by and the little buses the locals use stops outside and the taxi guy lives next door. The farmer sits and cuts clover, the guy brings out his livestock every morning and the kids go to school - lovely to see the every day lives of the Egyptians!
The one main thing which we especially liked was that we were not hassled by the owner to buy trips from them or hassled by the taxi driver - which can happen at some of the flats.
The lady owner (English) is very respectful and helpful. It's worth considering

I have a two bedroom apartment on a quite street near the Meridan Hotel & Isis Hotel and I would be interested in renting same on a weekly or monthly basis. Rates are 200 Euro per week or 600 Euro monthly. All mod cons. kitchen with automatic washing machine, coffee percolater etc. Two bedrooms (one ensuite) two reception rooms, large bathroom, balcony.

I am back home after a six month stay in Luxor (work committments now for 6 months).
If you are interested my e-mail address is as follows: bernadettecleere@yahoo.co.uk

Best regards

But those bastards down on the river won't tell you that. The night that Moll, BW and I left your flat to go back across the river, to go home we were told many times by others, that wanted a lot more money to cross the river, that the ferry had finished for the night. What was worse was they were telling us this mis-information infront of the police who couldn't have cared less that this lie was being told (probably because they speak NO English and didn't know what was being said). That is the kind of crap that gives the police and the boat boys in Luxor a bad name with tourists. It really should be stopped.

So - PASS IT ON - The ferry service runs ALL night!

I really like Jane's (if I may be this familiar) flats! I only cared to look last week and then I thought I should say it! because well done things deserve to be noticed, and today I came upon this thread here where it should be even more appropriate :))). It is not exactly economy accommodation of course, but it's not supposed to be, either, i guess :)))? (But is cheaper than ***** hotel, right?) The surroundings seem nice and looking at panoramas from behind my coffee cup while having breakfast at terrace, for example, is exactly my idea of "doing" the more popular sights :).

One month would be definitely too expensive, but stopping over for a few nights when coming down from Cairo or Alexandria... that I could imagine (NB! is not a promise :).

Still, what is this thing with prices? Luxor should be so much more cheap than Sharm is and I kind of got accustomed getting perfectly nice accommodation for 3-4000LE/month there... OK they have these mass real estate developments there so they sell tens or hundreds of accommodations each week of course, not quite as delicate (nor historic) surroundings as for Jane's property. Anyway, so I would like the apartment, but would not be happy to shell out that money :))... Though from the business perspective it is of course perfectly understandable that if you get enough people for whom it is not a problem, and they might also be the kind of people who appreciate the quiet and independence and help to preserve it well, and both parties thus are happy, then why would you go for cheaper mass sales indeed. But I would at least try search for similar but at least half cheaper, to settle my soul :).

But otherwise it is very good, location plus style. I really hate the stuffy apartments (don't know whether American or Egyptian taste?) that abound on Edar's website for Cairo, all thick curtains, tens of carpets and the antique or pseudo sofas. Or then the newly furnished type of budget accommodation, with really cheap, even fragile looking beds and mattresses that do not support you any more (or never even did). When a person is on vacation, or sightseeing, them how he/she sleeps, is really of foremost importance. I guess landlords neglect the issue of beds or mattresses so easily because they only see them but never really "get in touch" with them :))). So I really like Jane's bedrooms (as much as the photos show), solid but not stuffy. And the rest also seems nicely airy and elegant. Am happy for you!
(any special discount for me, when I come?? ah? :)))

Thanks for the comments and yes you got it spot on we are not trying to be the cheapest but the best.

There are plenty of cheap apartments in Luxor and there is a market for them. We have tried to be the luxury end of the market. Also we are not just offering only the flats themselves but also the common areas. So to that end we have a swimming pool and Jacuzzi and a beautiful rose garden. Ours must also be the only building that is finished, so no ugly wires poking out of the roof instead we have paved it, and planted it, put up a tent and a pool table. You should have seen the poor guys trying to get the base of that pool table upstairs.

The flats themselves are defiantly not poky, loads of our guests comment that they are bigger than their own houses back home. Anyway any one is welcome to check them out and see if the reality matches the photos on the website www.flatsinluxor.co.uk.

Of course all this costs money but I think a holiday is most people’s one chance to relax and enjoy themselves and they deserve the best. However you are right we are no where near as expensive as the 5* hotels.

PS after that nice write up of course you get a discount, 25pt OK

Nevermind

Just to make the point apartments in Luxor are priced per apartment not per person. If you add up the costs of 4/6 peple sharing this is then definately less costly than what one would pay in any hotel in Egypt for 4 to 6 people per week.

When keefy gets his site finished at http://www.Luxor4u.com then everyone can advertise their flats in one place. Along with a thousand other things, it will deal with flats to rent and buy on both the east bank and the west bank and provide a full accommodation service in conjuction with one of Luxor's estate agencies..

Hi Dee,
The one bed apt. has one large bedroom (in normal egyptian flat it would be two separate rooms), kitchen/livingroom with balcony and bathroom. Price depends on when you would want it. Let me know starting date and I will give you price.

Hi Dee,
It would be 400 LE per week + electric. I also supply cooking gas, bed linen, towels and free laundry service for these items. Laundry service for personal clothes etc. very low rates. However, I can only guarantee you three months. A further 3 months may be possible but I cannot promise as I am also dealing with other enquiries at the moment re. a group in October and they have not finalised their number.

In your site it says, "24-hour Concierge Service"
ROFLMAO....sorry, but does that mean the bowab is available 24 hours? If not, what does that mean at a flat in Egypt?

Looks like after Jane went in everyone got on the bandwagon of having a flat to rent in Luxor. I'll be down in July maybe...so I'll try to go around and check these out if they are open for viewing. Thanks.

Hi Debbie,
Sorry, don't fully understand your question. And I have 9 flats so you'll be most welcome to drop by any time.

A concierge, in any country, is a staff member of a hotel or apartment complex who assists guests or residents, as by handling the storage of luggage, taking and delivering messages, and making reservations for tours, etc. etc.

Hi Jane!
Don't have a pool yet....however it is in the planning stages for the ground floor along with a jacuzzi, floatation tank, lap pool, massage and alternative therapy facilities. Hope you'll drop by sometime with Debbie

I came just back from Luxor and i loved it...some egyptian guys were a pain in the ass...but I really loved it there.

Would like to go there again but this time not in a hotel. (áround september or october for 2 to 4 weeks)
I would like to rent a flat or appartment for me alone in city centre...somewhere near the train station or nile.

Thanks
Rogue
