as a turist, they dont let u go to the road without police..
this came after attack agains turist in luxor -97 or what was the year..i dont remember..

actually it is funny, that they think road is more safe now..
no way..now the terrorist know, what time turist are coming, and it is easy for them to go behind the mountain..and there is just few police with hundreds turist..what they can do..nothing. they kill them first..

the police in luxor makes always problems..last time i was there with my husband and with 2foreigner friend.
police says for my husband, that u cant drive the car with police and turist groups..because u are egyptian..
it is ok,if some foreigner drive, and u are just sitting in the car..
they want make everything so difficoult..egyptians cant show their country for their foreigner friends..is that litle over reaction..

Hi You can catch the local bus it takes about 6hrs costs 25le each way.
ask a taxi driver or anyone where to catch the bus. There are several through the day.
You may want to try Snafar hotel in Dahar (old town) or Geisum Village if you want a beach hotel both good prices.

There are only 2 ways of getting from Luxor to Hurghada.

One is hiring a taxi/mini bus and joining the tourist convoy. These depart Luxor at 8:00 14:00 and 18:00 and take about 3 1/2 hours to reach Hurghada. Any taxi travelling outside these times would be held at a security checkpoint. I totally agree that these do not increase tourist safety either form terrorism or because the speeds that the convoys do and the macho behaviour of the drivers that want to get to the front.

The other way is to take a local bus. I believe there is a restriction on how many tourists a local bus is supposed to carry but I bet a bit of baksheesh would get past that. The problem is that these buses are terrible unreliable. I have had guest arrive just this morning that were delayed 6 hours because their bus broke down.

So really if you want any kind of comfort and reliability you have to take the convoy. Hobson’s choice

Hi
an Air Condition Mini Bus is about 100le each person each way. Phone Ramisis 0101849203(mention Russell from Bombay) you can also negotiate a rate to take you around Hurghada as its quite spreadout, there are not many taxis so they are expensive, and the local buses that try to act as taxis are usualy a**eholes.

The 3rd option is to fly. My rep with Cosmos told me that they now fly 2 times per week.
