I'm going to the solar eclipse at El-Saloum. Arriving in Cairo airport, what's the best method to get to Marsa-Matrouh?

Bus:
http://www.ask-aladdin.com/transportation_in_egypt.htm
http://www.ask-aladdin.com/bus_schedules.htm
[ they list Golden Arrow, Pullmna, & West Delta. Where do these buses leave from? (somewhere in downtown Cairo?) ]

Train:
from http://www.seat61.com/Egypt.htm
[ I heard they leave from Ramses Square, in downtown Cairo ]

From Marsa-Matrouh, what's the best way of getting to El Saloum, by bus? Can't find any schedules, can someone advise?

Did a Google search on hotels in Marsa-Matrouh..need to find an economical solution. (a hostel would be fine, can someone advise?) Could only find this list (no email contacts):

http://www.egypttourism.org/Spanish/Hotels/hotels/MarsaMatrouh.htm

I have some contacts with scientists who already give me a line on eclipse-sites, so that's OK.

I plan on camping out at the eclipse site, the night before (near some groups of other eclipse-chasers).

If anyone can give additional info about El Saloum (or direct me to websites), I'd appreciate it.

I have travelled to libya across Assallum border many times before and from my experience there I think there isn't a place to stay in the town although it has a wonderful sea view and water and a mountain (you have to take the mountain ride! it's crazy scary!). Anyway, I suggest you consider the closest cities to Assallum (Sidi Barani and Marsa Matrouh) for the hotel stay. They are 2 or 3 hours away and Marsa Matrouh in particular has a spectacular sea!.
