Good day to everybody,

I'm new in this forum, thought have been using the information posted here for already a month, and finally decided to join !!! a very useful place.. :)

A little introduction:
Well i am Yana, from armenia, 22 years old, female from Armenia. Currently working and living in armenia. i have graduated from the french university in armenia. Masters in commercial engineering/marketing.

i have been in egypt 2 times already. and i love the place. i guess this is not surprising, coz i don't imagine anyone to go there and not to love it.
anyway i won't be long:

i want to relocate to egypt (cairo) from february 2007.
ya3ni for living, working.

i plan to rent an apartment in maadi, and plus get a a job. i know that i need to have a work permit, and residency and i don't know what. but i don't know exactly from what to start, coz i won't visit egypt before winter.

So my question/request is:

Can u please tell me from what i can start ?
From what i can start from armenia ?

Thanks a lot ;) ,
Yana

Hi Yana!

You need to start by getting a job, and if you want to live in Maadi, you need to get one that pays well. I suggest that you look at the job hunting links I posted at the end of the first thread in this forum to get an idea of the job market here and what might suit your skills.

You are most welcome , but as someone told you above , you need to get a nice job that pays well as renting an apartment in Maadi costs a lot.
Try www.bayt.com
Take good care and keep us posted .

well i understand, but well maadi is where i prefer to be, and if the job i find is in heliapolis for example, which is one hour aaway from maadi, i guess i will get the apt in heliapolise, or somewhere near it [Smile]
but the thing that now started to worry me, is the work permit and the residency..
coz when i was reading the priveous posts, i understood that it will hard to get it, and it takes a long time...
and as far as i understood when they give u the paper of the resident they take ur passport (which really i don't like)...

and can the comapny where i will work do the permit thing ? or i have to be invloved in it in any case ??? and in any case they will take my passport ???

THanks

If you get a job it is the responsibility of the employer to apply for the work visa and residency for you. If you get a job before you come to Egypt and your employer sends you a letter/contract confirming this, you can take that to the Egyptian Embassy in your country and apply for a temporary work visa. You can then come into the country on that and will have a 3 months grace period for your company to do all the paperwork that is needed to complete the process to get your full work visa and residency.

If you don't get a job before you come, you can come in on a temporary tourist residency visa, which you can get from the Egyptian Embassy again or on entry to Egypt, if that is allowed for people from your country. You can then look around for a job while you are here.

Your passport will not be taken away when you get residency, in fact if its tourist residency the stamp will be in your passport. Your employer may however take your passport to the immigration department to get your visa, but it would only be for a very short while.

Hi Yana,
Try careermideast web site, register yourself on there. You could also write to the embassy's asking for lists of comapnys who work in egypt. For eg: the British embassy holds a list of of UK companies opertaing in Egypt, they will send you the names, addresses and contcat details. However with all this in mind, the chances are you will have to be in egypt to look for work, people dont tend to respond to email, you need to be on foot knocking on the door.
Also other companies to try are Orascom/Vodaphone, look at the smartvillage.com, alot of bigger comapnies are moving to this site, just outside Cairo.
When it comes to work permit, I think you may struggle to get one though, they have to employ egyptioan nationals 1st. However you may find a company who can work around this.
Good luck.

Hi,
i just wanted to help , so i would be very hnost with you , entering Egypt was never a problem for arminian nationalty. you ca neasly enter Egypt with a toursits visa that allow you for one month. that is not a big deal becasue even if you exceeded that month and u want to leave back you will only have to pay the fine that is 103 Egyptian pounds. almost 15 USD. then while you are in cairo or anywhere else you can search for a job. once you have one you will/or your employer will have to apply for a resedency . and it takes a while to get it ! you will have to go trough blood test to make sure u do not have aids. and you will have to be employed as consaltant. or teacher. that is the easiest way to get the work premitt in Egypt. plus you will have to show your universty degrees and what you are specialist in.
For renting an appartment in Maadi , i live in maadi and it really cost alot of money. you should try to rent a place first around the pyramids area where prices are much better then when you have a job that can afford a place in Maadi you can move .
anyway keep in touch and let us posted where you are

and somehow , you are most welcome to Egypt even if you d onot have a job.

xxx
