I finally watch Egyptian T.V. after about 10 years of being too busy for such luxury. I was stunned by how fat every famous person has become. It's like an epidemy. I've also noticed that they keep interviewing a woman who claims to be a specialist in weight loss, her name is "dr." Maha Radamis. I have noticed that she, besides looking like a clown, is so full of crap, and it worries me to see her more often on TV. is she popular in Cairo?

GOD! Your mom went to her? What are the odds of that happening? How did your mom know about her? Did mom say why she thinks she sucks?

A study colleague of mine swears that the obesity among Egyptians is not only due to their eating habits & lifestyle, but also because of the (female)hormones injected into the meat for commercial purposes. We both even believe that these hormones could affect the fertility of young people, which pleases our nice government. Is this brought up in any public discussion?

oh my! they'd inject hormones on purpose to curtail the growing population? well as bizarre as it sounds i wouldn't be surprised if its true. you can't believe the things that are happening now! you must have heard of the carcenogenic pesticides that were allowed into egypt under the nose of former minister youssef wali. they are trying him now, but after what? after they were sprayed and easten by the people? also a few months back while visiting a village i was surprised at the amount of fertility clinics, and my collegue told me its because the government sends contaminated water to that area which result in a high level of infertility. so what the government does will never cease to surprise me anymore.
as for the egyptian obesity, well i don't
know. i read an article once that linked hormones in chickens to the fact that most women had large breasts in lebanon hehe. i'm not sure if its scientifically accurate or not. but remember the egyptian lifestyle is extremely unhealty. egyptian women eat really fatty foods, and very few egyptians exercise or play sports, especially the women. so it could be a combination of all those factors!

Well this is exactly what my colleague also mentioned about the majority of Egyptian young ladies. Look how huge their breasts are. Unfortunately that's is not th eonly side effect of eating hormone-injected chicken. That can cause breast cancer, infertility in both genders, and impotence in men.

This is an important and rather vast subject.

There is some worry, internationally, about this.

But to be accurate, they do not inject female hormones as such, what meat producers use is the so called growth promoters.

Some of these, are antibiotics, with the side effect of spreading bacterial strains that are resistant to antibiotics.

Other growth promoters have steroid like structure, with side effects that mimic hormones.

As it happened, most of those compounds have feminizing effects, the reason is with the chemical structure, and the fact that there are far more compounds of these groups that have feminizing effects , than those that have masculinizing effects...why ? ..no reason it just happens that way !

And just to add insult to injury, propably because of the fact I just mentioned above, there are many by-products of industrial processes, (not relating to meat production), that have femininzing effects too, (due to some similarities in the chemical structure), so you can imagine what happens if those pollutants find their way into the food chain, or water supplies (and they most certainly do).

Not only that, but just to emphasize the point above regarding the far more numerous compounds with feminizing hormone like effects, there are many naturally occuring substances that have this effect, many are of plant origin, one example jumps to mind since this is an Egyptian board, is Date stones..yes that is the stone of the famous fruit from palm trees ,Dates, it contains a feminizing hormone like substance (NO the fruit itself is OK).

Edited: Just to correct spelling mistakes

I quite doubt that. They're even bigger in rural areas, where they eat their own 'balady' chicken.

I reckon it's a combination of genetics and lifestyle.

But hasn't been thorough out time that Egyptian men prefer busty and meaty women?

I mean seriously now, wasn't it during the middle ages that Egyptian parents would try so hard to fatten their daughters up?

I wouldn't worry so much about the hormones, its the demand for the curvy look and feel that Egyptian men have enjoyed for millenia.

Dubai Satellite Channel
http://www.satellitedishtvsystems.com/arabic.htm

The logo on this webpage will explain what I am refering to because I cannot find a website for this channel: http://commercial.dishnetwork.com/content/channels/index.asp?NetwID=50437

And I think this might be the official channel, but its all in Arabi, so who knows: http://www.dubaitv.gov.ae/

Anyhow my hubby switched shifts so I no longer can stay up to 3am (CST) and watch this guy. He is very respectful to women and doesn't seem pretentious. Plus he isn't a pretty boy (like my hubby) and now that things have soured so badly I look at more manly men in a different light.

Oooh, you mean Chef Osama? he has no beard anymore. I don't find him attractive (I don't find any man attractive but dh), but he cooks so well, and he is so polite.
He studies and lived in Europe & the US. Now his family of wife & three children live in the U.S. and he flies back & forth between Dubai & the U.S.
I also keep buying kitchen equipment like his. Do you do any cooking of his Son?

Lucky you, your husband doesn't repulse you. lol. I get sick and tired of hearing him snear "Zambour".

No I know nothing of his son. But his wife is an American, explain some of his mannerism.

Thanks for explaining. I wouldn't have know otherwise.

Huh? His dishes look really complex and expensive.

I eat steak or fish on Sundays at my mother's house otherwise its Mac'n'cheese, $1 pizzas and anything else that can keep me below $3 a day for food.

It is real torture to watch all the good food on the screen and not be able to enjoy it. I ate well growing up in the suburbs but since I have married my budget doesn't allow for much.

His shows are dreams of my culinary past and hopefully again in the future.

You have good times and bad times, I am having a bad time now. Things will get better, I must be patient.

Its God's test, I must pass, if the test is short I have failed, if the test is long I am passing and learning how to be a better person.

I am learning to be an angel now. Life is one long test, pleasure is for the afterlife! In God's Kingdom.
