I've heard this on the grapevine today but can't find anything in the English-versions of the news.

Any info anyone?

Presumably to allow the Egyptian pharmaceutical industries to take more market share?

It wouldn't work. There tons of drugs that are not manufacture in Egypt and many that need hi tech equipment and experience that simply doesn't exist.

There is a tarrif on foreign produced pharmaceuticals, with concessions.

Tons of drugs are imported from Jordan in exchange for investing in Egyptian drug companies or to start a pilot manufacturing plant in Egypt.

Kinda works in Egypt's favor, kinda doesn't.
