Do they REALLY think people want to see a guy killing a lion?! That''s just idiotic/barbaric/stupid!! How can you do this to the poor thing? If you let this happen, I''ll make sure I''ll NEVER have anything to do with Egypt! If this guy COULD jump from the 10th floor, who doesn''t he do it insted of killing an innocent, defenseless animal?! He is nothing but a coward! This lion has done nothing wrong, so why does it have to die? I suppose the pyramids aren''t interesting enough, so now Egypt is going to build a Colosseum! SHAME ON YOU ALL FOR EVEN THINKING ABOUT HAVING THIS KIND OF EVENT!

Shame on you Egypt, take the lion from this moronic individual who knows full well it will not attack him in hate - it is tame and will have no idea this of this coward''s true intent. I suspect the poor creature has no claws anyway, they are usually pulled out when they are cubs. Egypt will suffer internationally if it does not address its animal welfare issues. The world is watching you Egypt - we supported your struggle for freedom, but if you allow this cruel and inhumane event we will boycott you big time!

With an effeminate face such as Al-Sayed al-Essawy's no wonder he shoots up so many steriods.

Is there any possibility of a very rich Egyptian not already under house arrest or investigation willing to buy this lion from this a-hole and have it shipped to a reserve somewhere where the lion can live out its days in peace and tranquility?

Is there any transgender woman or shemales willing to video tape a scandal in the making to put this guy out of the limelight?

Update from ESAF (Egyptian Society for Animal Friends)

Update : the case of the Lion and Mr. Essawi -Regarding the Lion Fight –

ESAF (Egyptian Society of Animal Friends) learnt of the problem at 8am on Wednesday 25th of May, immediate direct contacts were made with authorities involved, Managerial Authority of Cites and Environmental Police for confiscation, followed by a fax sent to all authorities involved including Chairperson of GOVS. (See attached). Follow up was made and we kept in direct contact with authorities. Tomorrow 29 May 2011, Managerial Authority of CITES would hold a meeting to implement immediate confiscation and legal procedures for this case. We will keep on providing updates.

Believing in our role in raising awareness ESAF's wildlife unit published on facebook groups the update, the legislations, and the direct contacts of authorities. We encouraged all those who care to act positive by also contacting the authorities and explaining how appalled they are. We asked all to demand immediate confiscation and enforcement of national legislations, law 9, year 2009.

Quick translation of the fax sent: (attached) Demanded interrogating the person, as he should be charge for intention of committing crime, illegal possession of the lion, immediate decline of the request this man submitted to Ministry of Interior, drastic effect of this news on tourism and in general Egypt's reputation.

Currently ESAF's wildlife unit has established direct communication with Egyptian Authorities and stakeholders including governmental General Organization of Veterinary Services, Cites Wildlife Unit, and Central Zoos as it act as the official recognized rescue center, The EEAA, Egyptian Environmental Protection Agency, and Environmental Police, to discuss current status and proposed strategy.

An MOU has been signed with the Head of General Organization of Veterinary Services and Central Zoos Director who also happens to be in charge of Managerial Authority of Cites and Wildlife Unit in Egypt. (please see attached Arabic and English translation draft)

Discussions and meetings in length are taking place.

Sincerely

Dina Zulfikar

Wildlife Unit - ESAF

CAIRO: An Egyptian man plans to fight a lion in an effort to promote tourism to the country. The man is arrested by Egyptian authorities. They allege he has mental problems and that a lion was never purchased. This was the story that was told to Bikya Masr by a number of animal welfare activists in the country, but according to comments on the arrest article, it may prove false. El-Sayad el-Essawy may still be at large and the “lion fight” could still happen, sources close to the man have reported...
