As some might know I have long hair, I constantly cut and trim it but it grows really quickly and is straight. I like to put it up into a french braid often:

but lately I want to experiment with some styles that I can wear easily under hijab, possibly some retro (vintage types) or soft braid styles like the one shown in the picture.
I love the 1940's hairstyles -

just think they're adorable, does anyone know of any websites that show how to do these hairdos or a step-by-step program ? I wasn't sure if I was the only one interested in this.
Thanks.

Wow that first one is gorgeous, Smuck, you can do that to your hair? Cool. [Smile]

the second one is fab, too, but those were the days they went to the hairdresser and had it *set.* I don't know how to do something like that now... [Frown] Hopefully someone else does.

yes it's pretty easy, I just roll my hair to make it wavy and then braid it loosely with a ribbon (like shown)...but also I sometimes do a regular braid and tuck it under and add little flower pins, etc., it's very romantic and easy, plus I don't have to worry if it falls a little, it still looks cute. [Smile]

Yea, the days they had it set with the more vintage styles, I just wish I could do it myself.

I love that first pic too, i dont know how to do that? can someone tell me?

I have long wavy hair so it should be easy, dont think it would stay under hijab though bcos hijab just makes it flat [Frown]

I found these:

http://www.updos.org/

http://www.style-hair-magazine.com/updo-hair-styles.html

http://www.hairfinder.com/howto/updos.htm

I used to do my hair like this all the time

http://www.hairfinder.com/hairstyling/twistcurls.htm

but i'm a bit lazy now, I would like a quick, nice style

The way I do mine is first to curl it with curlers, that's first...even if you have wavy hair, do this it might give it more texture. I then begin a french braid but REALLY REALLY loosley, almost to where it doesn't even catch, at about the middle of the braid when it begins to get close to the nape of the neck, start to blend in a ribbon, I sometimes use two colors, just depends, do it as loosely as you braid up the hair. Ok. Once at the bottom, I tuck it under and pin it with some pins. I then take the end of a comb (something pointy) and pull some strands out here and there on the sides, underneath, anything to make it look whispy and romantic. It really does stay nicely.
It does work for a hijab a bit if you don't wear a tight one, it flattens it a bit but with the loose french braid the more strands you have hanging almost the better it looks. [Smile]

BTW, I love the twist curls. [Smile]

Thanks Smucks for the compliment about the colour of her hair. I told her, she is very happy you said so cause my hubby, my son and myself have verrrrry dark hair ... and she is a bit insecure about her own colour [Smile]

You made her day ! [Smile]

Btw, good luck with your own baby-girl, I am sure she is GORGEOUS and I hope she is doing fine. Did she get her ears pierced by the way ? (only if you want to tell, don't feel obliged to answer)

Smuckers, I love the retro hair too. It's so feminine. Hope this site helps. It has pretty good step by step instructions.
