Mother-of-two Holly Schnobrich asked her five-year-old son to be the designated driver after becoming too drunk to drive home
Mother-of-two Holly Schnobrich knew she was too drunk to get behind the wheel of her car.

But her judgment was so clouded by drink and drugs that she asked her five-year-old son to be the designated driver.

After her 2002 Mitsubishi screeched to a halt outside her house, Miss Schnobrich even boasted to a worried neighbour: "He's a good driver."

But when five-year-old Weston Schnobrich was quizzed by police he was forced to admit he was "having a hard time because I can't reach the pedals".

The 24-year-old mother is now behind bars in Lafayette, Indiana, charged with child endangerment and public intoxication.

The 'good driver' Weston Schnobrich, aged 5, told police officers he was 'having a hard time' driving because he 'can't reach the pedals'

Her neighbours called the police on Saturday night after seeing Weston park outside the family home.

Wendy Barratt said she found the boy with his hands on the wheel in the driver seat with his three-year-old brother, Colton, in the backseat.

Both were wearing their pyjamas.

Mrs Barratt asked her neighbour, who was buckled into the passenger seat: "Is this toddler driving your car?" After praising her son's driving skills, Miss Schnobrich admitted drinking Grey Goose vodka and said she'd been taking Percocet, a prescription painkiller, to soothe her nerves "for when the kids are acting wild".

She also said she'd taken 86 sleeping pills over the previous two days.

Not surprisingly, her account of the night was hazy and the neighbours said she kept yelling at her children to get back in the car.

According to the police report, she had picked up a friend and was taking him home, but there was nobody else in the car.

She was said to be "disorientated" and "not making any sense".

The two boys were taken into the care of the Department of Child Services.

Oye oye [Confused] to read stuff like this is really hard to digest. The boys are definitely better off without their mother until she finds herself again. [Frown]

"She also said she'd taken 86 sleeping pills over the previous two days."

She put not only herself but her both small children into grave danger. [Mad] Thankfully she has attentive neighbors living next to her!
