People should not forget that Egyptology is a soft science that requires multi-discipline approach from many non-Egyptologist like archaeologist,anthropologist,geologist,geneticists,and other related fields. One should not shun this aspect from Egyptology. Dicussions on physical anthropology and genetics are relavent also to Egyptology.

I agree but when it becomes the primary topic of the board history is put on the back burner. We will have all of the anthropological information by 2020 or so.
All of these areas are very new and setreme caution must be used in dealing with them now.

* We will never have ALL of the anthropological information.

* Anthropology is not new.

* Egyptology is the study of the materials and culture of ancient egypt, by definition encompassing anthopology, archeology and linguistics [including historical texts], among other things.

Not really, you're just out of date.

Anything cutting edge is new by definition.

However, the point remains, anthropology is intrinsic to Egyptology.

Indeed it's Egyptology itself that is questionable.

An 'ology' refers to a branch of science. Is there really anything special about Egypt that warrants its own branch?

Egypt is just another country to which linguistic, archeological and anthropological disciplines are brought to bear on. Arguably it does not warrant it's own 'science'.

Difficult questions and perhaps over your head Professor H, but others will get it.

Egypt is not unique,for you have Sumeriologist,Assyriologist,etc.... The reason why Egypt overshadows others is areas is the amount of documentation that exists wheather its embalmed bodies or papyri. The climate of Egypt is stable for preservation of all these materials.

No other area in the whole world has such documentation except for China. People who study Chinese culture are called Sinologist.

For you, that would be known as self analysis professor.
