I am wondering how egyptologists can distinguish between the several homonyms that people had in AE ?

Especially when in the Old Kingdom the geneaology lines were next to absent- people tend to identify themselves with the present day ruler(King,pharaon)..

Also has that lead to many wrong interpretations about history of a certain period ?
