That's how most Egyptians view ancient Egypt. My friend from Fayoum told me that he believes that the Nubians are the pure representations of the ancient Egyptians. Alot of Egyptians will also say the Fellahin and Sa3eedi but even some of them are mixed. But most agree its the Nubians the best represent ancient Egyptians.
Unfortunately, most Egyptians see things through the lense of Islam. Nothing wrong with Islam except it clouds alot of their perpectives. Everything is seen through religion instead of logic.
BTW, Egyptians donot refer to ''black'' Africans as abeed. That's really only a Gulf Arab thing. If an Egyptian wants to insult a ''black'' Africans its usually hebaab or another word.

Even Hawass has said publicly that the closest populations to ancient Egypt are in Upper Egypt. It makes sense. The only thing that doesnt make sense is the Eurocentric attempt to separate "Nubians" from Egypt as if the difference between the population of Egypt and the areas to the South was like it is today, especially the difference between say Cairene and Aswani populations. The so-called "Nubians" have always been part of Egypt and therefore are primarily Egyptians, their culture lifestyle and architecture is nothing but the last vestige of ancient Egyptian culture on the Nile. Egypt has a very fascinating history all of it and the population of Egypt is fascinating as well, with the history of the country etched in their faces.

The person you were talking to is basically espousing the argument of the "True Negro." She admits they were dark-skinned, but says not Black like Nigerians (or something like they...I skimmed it). Dark is dark...period. There are people in East Africa (and Egypt) the same dark complexion as people in Nigeria.
