Robert Spencer: Saima Sheikh is media communications leader for the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community. The Ahmadiyya, of course, are considered heretics by mainstream Muslims for their belief in "the Messiah, Mirza Ghulam Ahmad Qadiani." Saima Sheikh doesn't mention this all-important fact here, but instead gives the impression to unwary and uninformed non-Muslims that some eminent Muslim authority has declared violent jihad un-Islamic. In reality, it is in part for that declaration that Ahmadis are being ferociously persecuted today in Pakistan and Indonesia, and the governing authorities do not even consider them to be true Muslims.

A Muslim-American Woman Reacts to Obama's Ground Zero Visit and Bin Laden's Death

By Saima Sheikh
Published May 05, 2011

quote:
It has been four days since we learned that the infamous Usama bin Laden, the leader of Al Qaeda and the most wanted man in the world has been killed. I would like to thank the brave United States Navy SEALS. As an American-Muslim woman, I am happy that justice has finally been served....
So in the headline Saima Sheikh is a "Muslim-American," and in her first paragraph she is an "American-Muslim." Have you ever seen anyone refer to a "Christian-American" or a "Jewish-American"? Of course not. There are Americans who are Jews and Americans who are Christians, but neither group uses such terms, because there is nothing about either faith that precludes or qualifies one's allegiance to the United States. These hyphenated terms, all of which are corrosive to national unity, as Theodore Roosevelt pointed out long ago, are usually combinations of some other nationality with "American," not a religion with "American." By using these terms, Saima Sheikh, as well as the Hamas-linked Council on American-Islamic Relations, imply that Islam is a kind of nationality, calling for a type of national allegiance, and so one may be a hybrid of Muslim and American, but one cannot be a Muslim and simply an "American."

quote:
I applauded President Bush’s remarks after 9/11 and President Obama’s remarks Sunday night that “America will never be at war with Islam. Our war is not with Islam. Osama was never a Muslim leader. He was a mass murderer.”

The word "Islam" means peace and obedience.

Actually, no. It means "submission."

quote:
As Muslims we are taught not to create disorder and to respect each other regardless of our faith. No true Muslim can do what Osama Bin Laden had done. There is no place for extremism of any kind in Islam. The Holy Quran clearly states “Whosoever killed a person…It shall be as if he had killed all mankind.” (5:33) and “when he is in authority, he runs about in the land to create disorder in it and destroy the crops and the progeny of man; and Allah loves not disorder.” (2:206)
Actually Qur'an 5:32 (not 5:33, at least in most versions) doesn't say that "whosoever killed a person…It shall be as if he had killed all mankind." It says "We decreed for the Children of Israel that whosoever killeth a human being for other than manslaughter or corruption in the earth, it shall be as if he had killed all mankind." "Corruption in the earth," or the "disorder" that Saima Sheikh decries by invoking Qur'an 2:206, is punishable, according to the Qur'an, by crucifixion or amputation of the hands and feet on opposite sides (5:33). Osama made his case among Muslims by charging that the United States was spreading corruption in the earth, and thus was fair game. The jihadist movement rejects the charge that it is creating disorder by pointing out that warfare against unbelievers is mandated in the Qur'an (cf. 9:5, 9:29, 2:190-193; etc.), and thus to pursue that war is not to create disorder.

This is not to say that bin Laden is wrong and Saima Sheikh is right, but it is an indication of why the jihadists have been able to make recruits within the larger Muslim community, in which their position is much better established in Islamic texts and teachings and more mainstream than Saima Sheikh's.

quote:
I am an America Muslim woman who believes in the Messiah, Mirza Ghulam Ahmad Qadiani, who declared emphatically over a century ago that an aggressive “Jihad by the Sword” has no place in Islam. In its place, he has taught his followers to wage a bloodless, intellectual “Jihad of the Pen” to defend Islam.
Highly misleading. Even aside from their status as heretics, the Ahmadiyya are a small minority among Muslims. Groups recognized as orthodox have by no means rejected "Jihad by the Sword."

quote:
This is what I and others in my community are doing all across the United States. We want to tell our fellow Americans that there are moderate Muslims who are speaking up against extremism. I am a loyal American who is taught by my faith, “O ye who believe! Obey Allah, and obey His Messenger and those who are in authority among you…” (4:60) This is further reiterated by Prophet Muhammad, “Love of your homeland, your place of residence, is part of your faith.”
He also said, "I have been commanded to fight against people so long as they do not declare that there is no god but Allah, and he who professed it was guaranteed the protection of his property and life on my behalf except for the right affairs rest with Allah". It would have been refreshing for Saima Sheikh to explain why she rejects this mandate, if she does, and on what grounds.

But instead, it's the same old disingenuous presentation of half-truths (at best).

Etymology and meaning

The word islam is a verbal noun originating from the triliteral root s-l-m, and is derived from the Arabic verb ’áslama, which means "to give up, to desert, to surrender (to God)."[1][20] Another word derived from the same root is salaam (سلام) which means 'Peace'.[21][22]

Redefining the word Islam to mean "Peace" is an attempt to deceive people about the real nature of Islam.

As this authority verifies: "The term Islam in the lexicon of the Arabs means 'Submission' to God." (Islam, Beliefs And Observances, Caesar E. Farah)

It is true that Islam and salaam share a common root, but according to the dictionaries, they do not mean the same thing.

"Peace" in Islam is inextricably intertwined with "submission" and "surrender" specifically to the will, desires, and commands of Allah, but of course also to those who set themselves up as the transmitters, interpreters, and teachers in Islam. Peace is thus not something achieved through mutual respect, compromise, love, or anything similar. Peace is something that exists as a consequence of and in the context of submission or surrender.

The question must be asked: what peace are we talking about? Islamic peace. How does Islamic peace come about? Islamic peace comes after jihad and the victory of Islam. Peace is one of those words that everyone considers to be universally good, but peace is what losers (kafirs) get, while winners (Muslims) get victory. Islamic peace is all about the victory over the kafirs.

Islam twists all of the kafir words. To find out what "peacemaker" means we have to go to Mohammed. Mohammed was an Islamic peacemaker. In the last 9 years of his life, he was involved in an event of violence on the average of every 6 weeks.

Every single neighbor of Mohammed experienced his peacemaking. Take the Jews of Khaybar, for instance. They were going about their lives when the army of Mohammed showed up. It took the murder, rape, theft, torture and becoming semi-slaves before the Jews experienced the peace of Mohammed. Once they submitted to Islam as dhimmis and agreed to live under Sharia law and give him half of what they earned, the jizyah (the dhimmi tax), they were left to live in peace. This is the peace of Islam.

As long as Mohammed merely preached the religion of Islam in Mecca, he was a failure. Very few people were interested in the religion of Islam. It was only in Medina where he became a warlord that Islam succeeded, and he became a peacemaker.

The natural state of Islam in relation to kafirs is jihad, not peace. If we want to discover peace in Sharia law, we must look under the general heading of jihad to find the subject of "truce". We learn that Muslims are not to call for a truce as long as they are winning. When Islam offers peace, it means that they are losing and need to gain time to prepare for the next jihad.

I am a warmonger because I use the doctrine of Islam to refute the deceptions of Muslims. When you examine the hadiths about jihad in Bukhari, about 2% of them can be construed as jihad is an inner struggle. However, the other 98% of the jihad hadiths are about killing kafirs until the rest submit to Islam.

Warmongering consists of asking questions to confront Islamic propaganda in this ideological war. Being a warmonger means showing up to support the Coptic Christians at a street demonstration about the jihad killing of Copts in Egypt. Warmongering means speaking truth to the lies of Official Islam.

It works like this. Unless we have enough enemies of the Islamic peacemakers, one day our civilization will experience the peace of Islam, and we will be like the historical majority Greek Christian culture of Asia Minor. Today Greek Christians are 0.3% of Turkey. They've experienced the peace of Islam-annihilation. X

Sorry Ayisha, but

"The word islam is a verbal noun...........which means "to give up, to desert, to surrender (to God)"

Then it goes on to say

"Another word............means 'Peace'."

Surely that "another" word is therefore NOT Islam, which does not mean peace?

Or am I going even more crackers than I thought?

Bold, as you obviously missed it looking at your quote

'Islam' means the submission or surrender of one's will to the only true god worthy of worship 'Allah' and anyone who does so is termed a 'Muslim', The word also implies 'peace' which is the natural consequence of total submission to the will of Allah

Does that make Islam a peaceful religion? Muslims use lots of words and terms that confuse the listener, but they actually mean a different thing.

For example, when Muhammad said “and say, we believe in what has been sent down to us and sent down to you. Our God is the same as your God. 29:45 he was trying to deceive the Christians.

The truth is that Muhammad did not accept the Christianity of the Christians and said “Allah's curse be on them, because they are deluded away from the Truth!” 9:30

So Muslims might as well use other terms because these terms are misleading. A reclining chair and an electric chair are both chairs but they are not the same.

Likewise, the word “peace” for Muslims has a different meaning. Peace, according to Muslims, will be achieved when everyone submits to Islam. Muslims can't offer peace. They can offer truce. In their minds, peace will be achieved only when you are subdued and they are the masters. Any other arrangement is not Islamic.

Hamas, who have been surprisingly honest, have spelled the concept of Islamic peace eloquently. They said that they won't give up on their quest to destroy Israel but meanwhile, as long as they are weak and realizing that such dream is not yet possible, they are willing to work out a truce, to be broken when they feel strong enough to wipe out Israel from the map and establish the "peace" as it is acceptable by Islam.

Muhammad divided the world in two sectors. One he called Dar us Salam (House of Peace) and the other, Dar al Harb (House of War). All countries, where Islam is not the ruling authority, are Dar al Harb. It is the duty of the Muslims to wage Jihad in Dar al Harb, overthrow the governments and force people into submission. This is the only kind of peace that Islam recognizes.

The concept of Islamic peace is expressed in the verse 2.193 of the Quran.

And fight them until fitnah is no more, and religion is for Allah.

Fitnah means sedition, perfidy or mischief. In Islamic terminology it means resisting Islam or disbelief.

When I say the objective of Islam is to force people into submission, it does not mean that you'll be forced into conversion. It means that you'll become a dhimmi, a subordinate to Muslims. You work and pay the Jizyyah, an extortion fee, to the Muslims who would treat you as second class citizen. They become the master race and you, their virtual slave and the source of their livelihood. .

Narrated Juwairiya bin Qudama At-Tamimi:
We said to 'Umar bin Al-Khattab, oh Chief of the believers! Advise us." He said, "I advise you to fulfill Allah's Convention (made with the Dhimmis) as it is the convention of your Prophet and the source of the livelihood of your dependents (i.e. the taxes from the Dhimmis.) " Bukhari 4, 53, 388:

The good news is that you can change your status by converting to Islam. So in a a very sarcastic sense, there is no compulsion in Islam. You convert "voluntarily". But you are free not to convert by accepting subjugation, humiliation, discrimination and constant harassment. What can be more democratic?

This meaning of "peace" is understood by all the Muslims. However they know that the non-Muslims have a different understanding of this word. So, they deceitfully promote their religion as a religion of peace taking advantage of the fact that the root of both words Islam and Salam is slm. One means submission and the other means peace. Even though the peace in Islam is understood as submission.

The truth is that what they were then following was not what was sent down to them. We DO believe in what was sent down before, but not what that has been made into. pretty obvious really.

And as for using words and terms to confuse the listener, open your ears next time someone 'explains' the 3 in 1 theory. [Wink]
