I love this pakistani food and my husbands (egyptian) family raves about it all the time and its quite simple and cheap. ill do my best to explain as i never use recipes,
you will need: potatoes canned spinach water spices (coriander, curry, chili, salt, pepper, thyme)
pot of oil for deep frying
boil about 4 or 5 small/medium potatoes (but dont overcook until they fall apart easily)
slice the potatoes into round slices about 1/2 centimeter thick, then slice the rounds in half (semi-circles)
put the potatoes into a deep bowl
add about 4 tablespoonfuls of drained canned spinach
mix lightly withoput breaking the potatoes up too much
add about a third cup of water
then add handfuls of flour and mix gently with hands until it becomes a thick paste consistency
now add your spices (i use a lot of curry, chili, pepper, coriander and thyme)
mix it all into a thick paste well disbersed
now drop tablespoon size blobs of the mixture into hot oil until they float to the top and turn golden brown
dip them in ketchup or your favorite hot or spicey sauce and enjoy
ill post a picture later i will make some tonight.
the trick to this recipe is simply making sure they are not too watery when u drop them in the oil so that they cook all the way thru and dont come out gooey inside...try to have one potatoes half on the spoon covered in the batter when u drop it into the oil so that ur center is potatoe not batter.
sorry if the directions are hard to follow...the pics will help ...coming soon
